However long it takes, and even if it isn't feature complete, bring it on! A good quality VSTOL capable airframe will be hours and hours of fun. I've already upped my virtual life insurance (put my pilot log on invulnerable)! My virtual fire crews have also ordered more virtual fire retardant foam and cancelled all their leave.

Very nice - though I'd dread trying to land a Seafire on a rolling deck!

Happy birthday to Yo Yo!

It would be a great addition, but I'd amend it to show the entire exclusion zone. Large, yes, but with so much ocean, I expect it wouldn't be too taxing on resources or developers time. It was removed from the list of upcoming projects due to a lack of a licence for the Skyhawk I believe. We'd also need a Sea Harrier, Super Edendarde, The correct variant of Mirage (I don't know which off the top of my head), and the correct naval assets. Not to mention DCS Sheep, Albatross and penguin simulator and some really convincing mud texture files.

How impressive is DCS World 2 using VR (Oculus/Vive)
NeilWillis replied to kingneptune117's topic in Virtual Reality
It's all been said before, so why couldn't you have simply done a search? -
The aim is to have a single, stable version of DCS World with access to all three maps. Unless you want to participate in the testing phase of updates, then you will need just one version of DCS World. The only reason there are 3 branches right now is that the Caucasus map required re-working to be compatible with the updated graphics engine. A work that is in progress. In the meantime, the entire 2.x.x branch is an Alpha release, and the 1.x.x branch is available as 2 versions. Post merger there will be 2 versions, the release version, and a Beta testing branch. All 3 maps will be available in both versions, so you will need just a single install, as stated. This has been well publicised by ED, so there is no confusion about the future of DCS World. The complication was the addition of the Normandy map, which was prioritised by ED to fulfil the promises made by a defunct developer. Now that is out, it is full steam ahead getting the 1.x.x branch merged into the new engine.

Mine is a work in progress, but I'll post some stuff when I am satisfied with it all. Thanks for the feedback guys.

BFVG WW2 Airfield Equipment Pack PREVIEW
NeilWillis replied to specterStudios's topic in DCS Modding
Top quality work again. Excellent, I look forward to seeing them on an apron soon. -
B A A&C A The answer to question 3 is A, for realism, but with C also an English cockpit for practicality please - being an English speaker.

The clue is in the Alpha release status of 2.1.1. Expecting stuff that isn't a reality is a sure fire route to frustration and disappointment, so perhaps that is the core of your issues right now? It is a fact that Normandy is currently borderline with frame rates, and we can expect improvement over time. In the meantime, wind down your settings, and avoid over complex missions. Also, read all the stuff that's been posted regarding optimisation of your graphics settings for Normandy. Follow the advice, and you will see huge improvements. Ignore the advice, and you're bound to be disappointed. Perhaps the best advice for anyone regarding this forum is to first do a search, and then and only then, post your problem if there is no solution available. There are numerous threads regarding Normandy on the forum, and adding more really makes life more difficult for everyone trying to resolve their own problems. Also, I don't know if I have ever seen Batman dishing out good advice - particularly on the ED forum. At least, I have never seen him discussing shark repellent - though I am sure that will change when we get a Pacific theatre map, and sharks become more prevalent - but I digress!

Can you substitute a P51?
NeilWillis replied to MADLOU1's topic in Spitfire LF Mk. IX Operation Epsom Campaign
There is a P-51D version of the campaign in the pipeline too, so you'll get something much more suited to purpose when it is released. -
How impressive is DCS World 2 using VR (Oculus/Vive)
NeilWillis replied to kingneptune117's topic in Virtual Reality
I'd definitely recommend VR to anyone using flight sim software these days. The only caveat is that it will stretch your rig's performance, so you need to be very careful setting up the software parameters to suit or frame rates will suffer. This situation in the Alpha release is of course under development, so it will improve over time as the software is optimised. At present, it seems to me to be pushed to the limit of a 970 Ti's capabilities, and the CPU is also being pushed hard. Nevertheless, it is still streets ahead of a 2D environment, and still worth the limitations. -
Does anyone know if the Oculus sensors will work inverted? I am building a new office desk/bookcase/play area, and it would be good if I could mount the two Oculus sensors under one of the book shelves. The question is, will they work upside down?
-
Yes, patience is the key. Remember that Normandy remains an Alpha release, so it is purely a development platform, and we will only see updates when there is something tried and tested, and brings something of substance to the project. Someone stated earlier that 1.5 will disappear when 2.5 comes along. Strictly speaking, it will remain extant, but unsupported going forwards, so there will be nothing stopping you from retaining that branch, and using it. It will just no longer be part of the update stream, and new modules most likely won't find their way onto that version of DCS World. But of course with the new Caucasus map and it's leap forwards in visuals, it will soon become totally redundant. Personally, I hope ED are pushing hard for the release of 2.5, and the Normandy map will be side lined to a degree. Once 2.5 appears, bugs are squashed and becomes the standard, we will benefit in a number of ways. The 3rd party devs will have something concrete to work with, so perhaps the delayed modules will start to reach their final state. Bottom line, just let ED continue to work on things, and don't expect to see weekly or even monthly updates. Something much better may be just around the corner.

Master Server Down?
NeilWillis replied to JG14_Smil's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
It is still taking far longer than normal to log in when the game starts. Is there still a problem? -
I can't figure my wife out. She complained that I am always on DCS World, and ignoring her. It was our anniversary recently, so being a thoughtful sort, I invested in a second PC, Rift, DCS World and modules so she could multi-play as well. I thought dogfighting might also be a great way to settle the usual arguments, especially as I might even stand a chance of winning a few as she can't even get tail draggers off the ground. Great solution I thought... She wasn't impressed - go figure!

Very popular with Southern Californians I am sure. But why not somewhere more belligerent? Down town New York maybe? Oh wait it is a COMBAT flight sim. Let's stick to war zones - where actual fighting with people other than each other, or Mexicans has taken place since the invention of manned flight!

Normandy Cold Start instant action mission
NeilWillis replied to mx22's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Because it looks good. -
It is something you need to set in options. Pick a higher resolution.

You have used the incorrect roundels on the wings. The yellow ring ones were only ever used on the fuselage.

Nice work again. Thanks guys!

Bad FPS on ground only. Why?
NeilWillis replied to TaktLwG 73 Steinhoff's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Yep, it is the increased object count at airbases that slows things down. -
You can turn the feature off in the special tab of the options menu. The Bf-109 has a similar facility for offsetting your view to the gun sight, which can also be turned off in the options menu. You can set your viewpoint in VR by using R-Shift, R-Ctrl, and and numpad numeric keys numpad plus / and * to adjust your view followed by R-alt numpad enter to save the viewpoint.

Great, thanks Andre. Order going in, and I'll be buying your software soon too.

Top notch - absolutely spiffing old chap!
