Cant help you, that edm is too old to break down a description.lua from using the normal methods we all use (ModelVierwer), there is another very complicated way to do it but that might not even work if you did know how to do it and its extremely hit and miss anyway, not worth the HUGE extra effort usually. Go back to the Mod maker and ask him to do it for you, if he can, he has the original 3dmax or blender files I assume.

That mod has an edm that is so old the latest ModelViewer does not recognise it, you will get that with older edm models sadly. If you have both versions of the game try Alpha ModelViewer, I find that sometimes recognises an older edm, but not always.

The OPV HMS Tamar P233 also has a red Dragon painted on the upperworks and I'm sure I saw another 'Dragon' in Plymouth Sound last year but I forget which ship it was. Might have been one of the smaller MCM boats. I think what you posted there from the Wales website is probably true, its unusual, but very credible. Close associations with named ports/cities has always been encouraged in the RN, port visits being undertaken where possible to show the ships off to the Taxpayer ! - and its good for recruiting, which is major problem for the RN today. Cant think why HMS Tamar has a Dragon on her, must find out ! (Ships crest has a red dragon on it - is the answer) Hijack over - sorry Currenthill !! -

I always wanted to try and paint that dragon onto a type 45 bow, getting an image to copy was difficult because they have changed that dragon shape a couple of times over the years but I found something I could copy and paste, it works quite well. I am old and my eye's are on the way out so I had to darken your Mod down a lot otherwise the game blinds me, so forgive me if this image looks a bit too dark, it's me age Guv !! I redid the numbers and added the flight deck codes as well, finding a decent RN font is almost impossible so its a compromise. -

Type 45 - HMS Dragon - a couple of small observations re this wonderful Mod. Not a criticism, just observations, there are no hard and fast rules as such. Flags - At sea it is normal for RN ships to fly a Naval Ensign from a yard, as per the attached image. Entering harbour or alongside they would have a Naval Ensign flying on the stern and a Union Flag on the bow. It would be unusual to have a ship at sea flying just a Naval Ensign at the stern, that flag post would be removed to allow for flying stations. That said you see all manner of flag arrangements so this mod is not wrong, just unusual. GPMG Machine Guns - At sea these would normally be removed and stowed below decks, normally they only man them for entering or leaving harbour or where there is a threat from small boats. So again, not wrong, just unusual. HMS Dragon - The red dragon on the bow is very unusual for the RN which is normally VERY conservative when it comes to decoration (some would say anal !!). I have no idea what has changed but they now have dragons on the sides of three warships that I know of, in my day all that was allowed on the hull was rust, and that's was never for very long !!! Super Mod mate, well done. -

Hi - Love the type 45, very nice. Can you extract a description.lua for the edm please, I want to add the other ships in the class to the Liveries folder but this edm is crashing DCS when I load it into ModelViewer. (I am getting this more and more now with recent mods, I have no idea what the problem is). Many thanks. DISREGARD - I got one using the Alpha viewer. -
Okay - I lied about the Ernest bit. Something different, something unusual. I used to watch these beats doing circuits at RAF Kinloss when I was just a lad, my brother flew in them during the Beria Patrols in the 1960-70's. Noisy bastards, but so impressive.

Seabat and Urbi - Many thanks guys, I had downloaded the psd files but had not tried them out thoroughly using PaintNet. I have done that now and worked out how to make best use of them, so I'm well on my way to a working solution. I can now isolate the bits of skin I want and convert that to bmp which is my preferred working format, then convert them back to dds for the game. This is the first time I have ever been stumped by a texture format ... this Mod is quite unusual in that respect. Thanks for your replies, they prompted me to look at the problem from a slightly different angle and a solution was found. I like a challenge ... it beats struggling to put my socks on first thing in the morning which is my normal daily challenge !!!!!

Perhaps I didnt explain it all that well. The skins are in dds format, and they are large size skins so should be showing all the detail when you open them. BUT, when I open them in any of the software systems I have that normally open dds format files all I see is one single layer of what appears to be panel lines. I have tried DXT - the file wont open, Paintnet - all that shows is that single layer, PhotoImpact - they wont open, Gimp - they wont open. They appear to be normal dds files so its got me stumped, one of the above systems has always worked in the past. Last resort will be the Discord, I avoid that site as much as I can, its like trying to find a needle in a haystack on there, VERY disorganised and downright weird in places.

Help me out here guys, I have only just got around to this VSN Mod and I am looking to do a few more liveries: I can see the skins are in dds format but none of the software that I use can open them, well that's not quite true, they do open but all I can see is a single layer of what seems to be panel lines, there are no other textures or any indications of other layers present. I have tried everything - DXT, Gimp, PaintNet - nothing is working. What's the magic software needed for this Mod, its beaten me. ?

Ah, but not all Military vehicles are American ! - But to be honest I was just playing with it and used a standard colour swatch which often gets adjusted by the Normal and RoughMap files, its just eye candy at the end of the day. -

I forget to mention, I could not do any skins for the EU Log Truck, there edm crashes ModelViewer every time you try to extract a working description.lua for the textures. -

Early Access - Ropucha - Class Soviet Landing Ship

The edm was in the shapes folder for over 2 years before anyone tried to make it work, so its their model, they can do what they like with it. Sadly this version is incomplete, weapons missing and few other things - but we can hope they are working on it. -

Many thanks Western, That tells me how to fix it, I wondered if they were on that texture file somewhere. I will find them by trial and error if I can. You help very much appreciated. AND and hour or so later - I found them all, now got them in the right colour. Issues like this often take weeks to fix, you saved me a lot of extra work.- 541 replies

Doing a couple of skins for the R11 Tanker and spotted a small error around the port headlight, not sure what is causing it, suspect its and edm issue. The bit of the skins that refers to is completely covered in yellow but these errors still appear. I should mention this is the textures for the larger edm file model, not the smaller one which is a completely different texture.- 541 replies

If you have put it in the bazar/temptextures folder in the main game simply remove it, the game will revert to the original. If that does not work run a DCS repair, its that simple.

Not sure we need yet another website, but agree the existing one is a bit of a trial to navigate. Currently it has about 18000 downloads you can pick from, some of them so old I'm sure if you looked real hard you could find an original model of Noah's Arc. Many of them are of no use what so ever now, long since defunct and they should/could be removed, BUT, nobody seems bothered enough to do that. I used to leave my stuff on there until the numbers stopped going upwards, then remove them. A little bit of housekeeping works wonders. That said many of the current crop of modders dont use it anyway, they have their own threads and add/adjust their stuff that way, which works fine if they keep all the mods to a single page, but once those page numbers mount up that too can be a trial to see whats current. I say fix what we have first, dont add to the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to tell us that mate, that explains it. Luckily some of the static structures still work, and they are excellent, it was just the vehicles I was hoping to resurrect. It's not to be.
