I was using the Rift on a 1070..... just, by playing with settings. Go--> 1070ti if you can get one at a good price. The minimum 1070 (8GB) for VR and you will still be limited for mission size / eye candy.

[MERGED] DirectX 11/12, OpenGL, VulkanAPI Discussion
David OC replied to Cskelly's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
More engineers / coders working on separating and implementing vulkan does not equal faster and more optimized code. The guy's / small close nit team could have been working on this for years separating DCS. To get others up to speed would take a long time and or end up with a big mess trying to speed things up. This needs to be done right for the future of DCS and dynamic campaigns etc. DCS is still great now if you have a half decent system. They should take their time and get it right. -
A. The splitting of graphics engine and simulation engine B. Vulkan api full implementation. C. Ongoing optimization and also any VR optimization that can be achieved utilizing the implementation of Vulkan. At a guess.;) These are the things we know ED are working on. Not an easy task and I'm sure they will post about it when there is something to show/breakthrough.

Some great info can be found here Nealius. http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-96K6-Pantsir-2K22-Tunguska.html "The immediate operational imperative for the PVO-SV was to defeat the then new A-10A Thunderbolt, and US Army helicopters firing anti-armour missiles" "The electro-optical tracking system includes a longwave (8 - 14 μm band) thermal imager for target acquisition and tracking, and a dual band short (3 - 5 μm) / midwave (0.6 -1.1. μm) IR tracker for angular measurement of the missile beacon." "The missile designs are all derivatives of the two stage command link guided 9M311 weapon. This is a 42 kg launch weight missile, with a low smoke motor" The F/A-18 has no MLWS (Missile Launch Warning System). You need the A-10 for that system.

and ending up where you, in this case(ED) want to get to. That's exactly why they built their own engine to go with their own simulation engine and the big end game design they think is good and where they want to be at.:)

There is a thread here that you can read Arrowood. http://forums.eagle.ru:8080/showthread.php?t=194763 The A-10A is very simplified FC3 aircraft to learn and to get into / learn to battle quicker. The A-10C is a full simulation of many systems that will keep you busy learning and reading for a long time. It was built to train IRL pilots in the transition from the A-10A to C, see pic in that thread I posted above. Welcome to the forum.

Are you targeting Radar sam's? You didn't say you selected the HARM? It will show after you selct the HARM missile. Attached Caucasus FA-18C Weapon Practice mission thats in the quick flight. I've add Sa-6 and a Tor etc to the mission that will shoot them down. Remove the Tor if you want it easier. Put it in your MY mission folder C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Saved Games\DCS\Missions Caucasus FA-18C Weapon Practice.miz

Yes it will open the comms menu. The commands are --> Comms switch --> F1 - F3 - F5 -. Etc I have not set this up for a while, I do remember setting a clear command when the menu got stuck open. Clear - which would turn the comm's menu back off. I think I had it set to comms switch (You open the menu) then the program would run (2 Hold position) and finish with (\) comms to close the menu I think.

It still comes back to the Field of view and monocular view which you don't have with the Oculus CV1 at 110-degree's. Hardware to mimic real life problem, not a mathematical simulation speed problem. https://vr-lens-lab.com/field-of-view-for-virtual-reality-headsets/

Yes better, you are there "in the 3D world" (all around you, every where you look etc.) From your point of view, it feels like your sitting in a real cockpit. Blows you away the first, many times you try it. I still use my monitor as the resolution for online combat is not quite there yet. https://vr-lens-lab.com/lenses-for-virtual-reality-headsets/ https://www.tomshardware.com/news/virtual-reality-lens-basics-vr,36182.html

It's a 2D screen etienne1968, try zooming your view back Number pad / and * to have more "peripheral vision" like in real life. Hard to see gauges in a cockpit on a flat screen zoomed back like that, the speed feels more correct tho. In VR it looks much much more accurate and fixes all that. Try it if you can...

and ED was one of the first to 64bit and VR....They know....It's also good for their commercial training side. The rest of your post is a bit.....Well it's all not that easy, vulkan api and multi core is being worked on now. A rewrite to what? Combat sim's/ flight sim's in general would possibly be the hardest to code and ALL needs to sync real time. The LARGE player main base (possibly 4 cores? ) ED will implement VR SLI based on the direction it's all going to go? It's a big call today when looking into a crystal ball to where exactly to focus resources.

The end game is clear, it just a bit of a journey to get there and to get it done right. I'm also thinking that flight sim's and especially combat one's when everything is synced, arty, aircraft gun's firing all over the map my many is extremely difficult to get right now and for the future. I'm not a coder, just thinking of just that makes splitting up the code very hard to gain performance when everything still needs to be synced up at the end. I believe the big jump and possibly the easier "In terms of multi core for a combat flight sim" Will be the separation of the graphics engine to simulation. Client/Sever approach, just locally on your pc. "mimics an actual battlefield" You can see this now! (Within reason) Take a look at what Drexx has setup here with DDCS. Drexx build his own sever engine to save the state of the game and this also updates the captured airbases on the map by blue and red.

Warthog and F/A-18C controls setup
David OC replied to davebert's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I have CH gear and just try and match as close to real as possible. See this thread for pics, the only thing missing on this below is Right for amraam. I don't have a down action, so left for sidewinder. -
Not so technical.... Zoomed way in, in Photoshop, I'm a pixel low lol. From the video I posted testing out Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery. EDIT From taking the next shot (Hook hit) It looks to me that flying a "perfect ball" you maybe will "just catch" the 3 wire? Look at the ball in this shot. Also, exactly where should the hook hit when center ball? Dead center between the wires? The IFLOLS possibly needs to be moved back half the wire distance? or lowered (GS correct?). It looks to be set to land right on the 3 wire. Edit again, I didn't take my time editing this. So the two images are out a frame....It still looks a little off? .

I run on max setting (High shadows-->Flat or default ) and force DCS to sit on 60 fps (autoexec.cfg -->options.graphics.maxfps = 60), it smooths out Trackir. I can hold this fairly good all the time sp and mp with only minor drops here and there and that's with 16gb ram. That's also running ssaa 1.5 msaa x2 It looks great if you can hold these! That's with no GPU overclock and at only 4.8GHz If I want more, drop the msaa x2 or start pushing with overclocks GPU/CPU

Friend is having problems with his computer
David OC replied to ElCuco68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep, Not trying to be smart or anything... But I have seen some plug their monitor into the motherboard vga/dvi port and not use the graphics card display port, dvi port. If it's hold 20 fps on max settings, it must be a good onboard GPU. -
So, by switching to Linux, or offering Lindows as an alternative to "Classic Windows," Lindows:megalol:

OttoPus, I posted here on the 2nd page with links as to why ED does it the way they do, so they too can enjoy working on a combat flight sims for the foreseeable future (consumer civil side anyway). Good points and it's all the items that ED wants to work on I believe. The show must go on tho right. So people are working on ( maps, modules, terrains, scripted campaigns ) The Coders/ENGINEERS are working on the core which takes years and years to mature. DCS is looking awesome and the future is looking quite good right....;) "may just be too little too late" Not too late, no one is out there to do it. Where else are we going to fly combat and do case 1 in VR version 2,3,4 at 1080p, 1440P, 4K?:) VR tech is also taking to long.... Combined Arms needs some work yep, ED's focus is still on the the flight sim side first(always). Combined Arms at the start was just a cool thing to play around with the ground forces while flying, like you said ED hasn't push on with it. I don't think it will take as long as you might think to fix it up and make it cool, it still won't be a full on land battle sim like steel beasts, which is another sim company that also caters to the military to keep the lights on. I'll just end with that from my eye's ED is real turning up the heat now on the consumer side on all the things you have listed above and is in a very good position moving forward. I believe things will and are happening much quicker and I'm really interested to see what happens in 2019.

You should only use ICLS just into the groove on a monitor (zoom in a little) or about 1/4 mile, or half way in the groove in VR. Then switch to the ball... The most important part is (Setting) On speed (Spot on) on the downwind (Wings Level) this sets you up for the correct AOA when in the groove and back to (Wings Level). Don't mess with it when coming around into the groove, it's trimmed wings leveled so it right when level. I have the controls up in this vid EDIT Quote Curly (Engineer) "The key aspect to understanding why this technique is used is often overlooked and relates to stability. The start of this technique is predicated up on the fact that we are trimmed for level flight before turning on final." Here's the full Post .
-
This tells us a lot Top Jockey "I'm landing with 130 kts" (Speed means nothing once "TRIMMED" to on speed AOA (Navy ;)) Forget speed and trim for On speed. Check you weight (Fuel dump or drop stores) 33,000 pounds, check DDI --> checklist page for weight. "don't know the ideal sink rate" (It's called ball flying) You keep the ball centered as you fly down the glide slope. It gives you your sink rate. I made a full thread about all this cool stuff:) Lots of great links to training in that thread. It's all about the pattern to setup for the groove, then fly the ball. It takes time to get right and is perishable if not practiced A LOT. This video is what you need to learn to get "proficient" practice, practice, practice!

A bit of wisdom for an old geezer
David OC replied to Capn Penguin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think BitMaster would probably say? Make a bootable usb with Linux Mint and stress test their first if you think it could be windows, not sure what program to use as a stress test? You would need to ask Bit about this stuff. Also, Like METEOP mentioned, maybe update the BIOS too. -
A bit of wisdom for an old geezer
David OC replied to Capn Penguin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's all good John, We all run into trouble from time to time (Weird pc things too) and we all help nut things out here. Like Bit has said start with the easy ones like updating drivers, then it gets tricky if you don't have spare parts. Did you build this cool 2080ti PC? We are all "hoping" they didn't skim on the power supply like some builders / large brands do. What is it exactly + wattage? Example You have 32GB ram, is that 2 sticks or four? If the drivers don't help? I would pull out one stick of ram, keep (1) 16gb if 16gb single sticks in the main slot and test in DCS. If it fails try the other one. If you list your motherboard we can look it up and see which is the main slot. If running 4 sticks? Keep them in pairs and test from the main two ram slots etc. Only reason to test this is because I had a PC at work awhile ago doing that only from time to time, guessing it was only when it hit a part of the ram that was faulty, we had spare ram their so I tried that, now no reboots. Edit: If you have a 2nd monitor? Leave the HWmonitor up so you can see it and check the CPU/GPU temps, my HWmonitor doesn't show CPU temps...? I use Corsair link off my motherboard. I'm just wondering if the heatsink/paste is not seated properly and it's getting hot etc. Is it on water, an AIO? These can sometimes not seat down really right if not being careful when tightening them up. Just a thought... -
When you are new to DCS or Flight sims in general. Stop trying to do it all by the book and enjoy the journey. Fighter pilots are well trained in aviation before becoming a Fighter pilot. I use the other sims to learn more about the civil side, plenty of books here to start with.;) You can pretend and many do setup in multiplayer or single player and do it all close "by the book". You should pretend your at an uncontrolled airport / Non-towered airport. This is also what some servers do when flying online with dcs simple radio. DCS simple radio hooks in to DCS and allows you to use the radios in the F/A-18 and others to talk to others with simple radio on the server and allows you to say your intentions to others (Landing etc), not ATC, just like when at uncontrolled airports. Just for now anyway, there is so much to learn just in aviation, then air2 air, air to ground. Then all the air and ground units you might encounter and deal with and how to deal with. Yep, lots to learn (Forever) we could just keep this thread going forever.:) You need to find you niche in this niche and stick to it for a bit, it might change along the way like it has for many. I recommend learning to takeoff, navigate (Many ways to Nav too) Fly the TF-51d in (VFR) and just really learn to fly patterns, touch and go's and fly to another airport etc. DCS ATC is ok, it is going to get an overhaul at some point. I just pretend I've contacted ground to taxi. Then you can look up the airport chart to see how to taxi. C?:Program FilesEagle DynamicsDCS WorldDocCharts Or look to see if you can grab the real chart online, many real pilots have there charts printed or on the Ipad etc. We list them all here in Australia "Navigate to the right end of the runway" Lookup the airport chart and or look at the HSI or cheat and use the F10 map. JTAC: look up once you are ready (Know the basics at least first) to become a military pilot.;) This also depends on the aircraft you are learning and all it's systems. You could make just the A-10C your full time sim career learning all it's systems, procedures and all the potential enemy ground targets. It takes me a bit to get back into and have a little proficiency after taking some time off with other aircraft. There is lots to learn, if you like the Su-25t this is a great guide on steam, I've been playing around on a sever with the Su-25t and needed to work out what the weapons do so I could sort out a weapons load out. That guide came in handy. The community helps get others up to speed and also takes some pressure off ED spending 1000s of hours in tutorials. For an example: Download these documents for the aircraft your interested in learning and watch YouTube. Then also read the DCS manual and or NATOPS manuals. All that and I barely scratched the surface.:huh: .

I would ask for it under Forum and Site Issues. They might be able to let you buy a campaign when a special is on. Have a tick box saying, you understand you cannot play this until blar blar....
