Are the Towers Responding ?
Bourrinopathe replied to SnowTiger's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I had the same issue with the comms menu not showing up in 1.5 and 2.0 too. Iirc it's a known bug related to the new (comms menu items) clickable feature (?). It's still surprising when you need some input from the AWACS. I think I've read someone found a temporary fix by doing something with the views and menus but I can't remember what. Maybe a quick search in the forums will help. At least I can confirm the issue with the comms menu occurs in single player and multiplayer. [EDIT: This only occurred with the L-39. The menu showed up correctly with the Su-27. I didn't test the other aircraft.] -
DCS: Мi-8MTV2. Flight Manual NEW -download
Bourrinopathe replied to PilotMi8's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Thanks a lot for the hard work on that helo and the detailed manual! -

It looks wonderful! There's a peculiar detail I notice on that gimbal ;) And it's ready for two springs per axis. It should be great for the central stick position w/ extension and for the Warthog grip option. I also like the small footprint. But now I'm conflicted. Should I get one, as a central stick using the stick extension? Or two so I can have a helo cyclic and a side stick? :music_whistling:

That's weird. I just tested a quick Free Flight and it worked really well. Different altitudes, speeds, diving, inverted flight… It failed if I tried to recover while climbing at a 90° pitch angle, but I think it's one of that autopilot mode limitation (it might written somewhere in the Su-27K manual). Even so, when the Flanker finally stalled and dived it managed to get it to a leveled flight after a few seconds. Did you check your DCS installation with a "repair mode"? (no idea what specific issue you might have)

Yes it's around $100 (and above). Industrial grade contact-less ministicks. They're even IP68 certified. Totally overkill for a home HOTAS imho, but who would refuse high quality? :) Also, I really need my TDC to be accurate and reliable (precise thrusters controls for space sims would only be icing on the cake).
-
Let's just put a replaceable analog ministick in that grip then :music_whistling: And just like rrohde said, CH has done it right, even the TM Cougar throttle seems to have a decent one… gamepads have resilient ones ! Should I start thinking about drilling a hole in the grip to stuff an APEM Hall effect ministick in there?!
-
I really hope the new grips will be rock solid (as they'll be made of plastic). My Black Mamba/Cobra-type grip tends to creak when I squeeze its little neck. :weight_lift: Also, I'd love to use an analog mini-stick on the grip - it would be a great addition as a russian-style TDC but also a fantastic thrusters control for the space sims. In fact, I can't think about a next gen modern grip without an analogic mini-stick.

There must be a solution. Maybe you could get the springs from VKB Europe, as they're going to receive some shipment from VKB (China)? At least, it's good to know those springs could snap. If you can't find a solution, please PM me: I have some spare springs from my Mk2 (and Mk3) gimbal(s). I can send you a pair or something (I don't care about shipping costs). ---- On-topic: That's a delight to see Baur is working on including dampers. I'd love to have a smoother feeling with my control stick. I'm convinced it would improve the overall precision and feeling as the springs elasticity won't try to guide your hand that much. And it's obviously a great deal when using an extender and stronger forces. Keep the updates coming ;)

Everything seemed so artificial until now ^_^

Vote for DCS on Steam, but purchase @ ED's e-shop ! It's healthier for them. And they may offer a sale during this week-end anyway. So: support them harder ;) It's as empirical as thermodynamics and fluid mechanics (well, ok, factored by the infamous 2-more-weeks part). More money to ED = better modules for us. (and, hopefully, some deserved spanking on that 2-more-weeks axiom).

Thanks a million for that neat utility SkateZilla! It just saved me a lot of time as I transferred my DCS 1.5 to a brand new SSD, and for whatever reason the recent DCS update made my modules unresponsive (starting in the map view). I tried a manual repair to no avail and then spotted your .exe in the folder. I forced the modules installation and now everything is great again ;)

User File Skin Textures not working 1.5.5
Bourrinopathe replied to Wine's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Thanks Ironhand. I misread your post, sorry. (multitasking issue on my side ;) ) I quickly checked a few liveries in the Encyclopedia but renaming the "empty.tga" to "empty" did not fix all of them, and removing the line (or tagging it as a comment) displays the default texture (bort number and such). I don't have the time to dig any further right now but maybe there's a way to fix all the incompatible liveries with a batch command (I hope so). -
User File Skin Textures not working 1.5.5
Bourrinopathe replied to Wine's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Do not delete the "empty.tga" lines or the related default texture will be displayed. You can just replace (or batch-replace with a text editor like Sublime Text and Notepad++) the "empty.tga" by "empty". At least, that's the syntax used in the description.lua for the default liveries. example: {"su27_tail_numbers_down", 0 ,"empty",true}; I only checked the Su-27 liveries but it should be the same for any aircraft. ---- [EDIT: Well it does not seem to work that well with some liveries - you might want to check those one by one  You can type a double dash at the beginning of a line to mark it as a comment (so you can test without altering the description.lua too much): ex: {"su27_tail_numbers_down", 0 ,"empty",true}; to -- {"su27_tail_numbers_down", 0 ,"empty",true}; ] -
Thanks a lot for the feedback and the tests guys. It's great so many things have been tweaked and fixed. I'll have to wait until the stable release to check that update. So now the basic autopilot "A" helps you land? Is that a specific behavior of the AP (like the dedicated one in the real Flanker) ? Or just the AP following the assigned flight parameters and the glide slope ? I'm not sure how the real landing AP works though (some digging would be required). (посад = посадка = landing)

It would be great if those kind of reflections and glare could affect the cockpit view rendering. The glass and surfaces of the dials and MFDs would look more realistic. It's great to see those kind of improvements ! As hughlb suggested, it would be wonderful if the sunlight reflection could help spotting an aircraft in the distance (like in real life).

I bet it will require an adapter, but it will most certainly be compatible with the Mamba base. That's the whole point of the modular design. But you'll want to get a Gunfighter anyway :) And they should call that future space sim grip the Kosmosimo. It sounds wonderfully. I'll get the Champagne.

Congratulations and thanks a million for such a carefully crafted content!

^ interesting overview/review of the Javelin. Thanks for sharing. As suggested in the video, the "wobble" of the grip feels/looks slightly different on my Gladiator. Close, but shorter/smoother on the Gladiator. Maybe they used a different grease in the gimbal. The pads underneath the metal base plate are also different. Silicon pads are used on the Gladiator iirc. Great grip on different surfaces (I tried: wood, synthetic desk surface, book hard cover, cloth mouse pad). One thing about the PoV design: it's low profile, so less comfortable to push in different directions (compared to a classic china hat - and that's also why it's more difficult to use as a thrusters control in the space sims (Elite: Dangerous)), but the design is closer to a push button (like the KG-12 button it replaces) and you can rest your thumb on it without involuntarily triggering an input.

Maybe there's a misinterpretation from Eduard (VKB Europe), or some kind of misunderstanding. So, please and again, we should wait for an official clarification from the main VKB team. Technically, the Gladiator Pro IS compatible with their Warthog grip adapter. I can't see why it would not be available. Maybe the availability is just delayed. VKB is not Logitech $$$ or manpower. And that modularity is something very specific to VKB. No reason it's been unexpectedly ditched during the development and production processes ;-)
-
Maybe VKB just wants to avoid issues with people putting too much mechanical stress on their Gladiator Pro. You know how people can be. So if they break their Gladiator's base because they're fighting with their stick, they'll just complain it did not endure. Some guy already broke his Gladiator's trigger after all (it's plastic but you'll have to squeeze hard to brake it). And I have one, it's not that fragile. Anyway. Theoretically, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to use a Warthog adapter on the Gladiator Pro. It's the same gimbal as the Black Mamba III. So it should be fully compatible. At least, I didn't see any official announcement/confirmation/clarification stating it won't be possible (ever ever ever) to use a Warthog grip with the Gladiator Pro. Until then, please don't go all BRRRRRRT on VKB ;)

If you mean the metal base plate of the Gladiator then, yes, you can just remove the screws and detach the plate.
