NEW Afterburner Gate option + keybind. How does it work?
GunSlingerAUS replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
OK, I guess I was just too dumb to realise! Got it set up and working, should be handy for ensuring I don't accidentally hit the AB when taking off in the B. -

Interesting - it'd be nice if they mentioned in the patch notes that this was a special option, and not just a keybind. -
NEW Afterburner Gate option + keybind. How does it work?

Official Manual - no description. Key mapping - no description (that I noticed when trying to map) Patch notes - no description. So, uh, where is the description you mention, and does said description explain how this much-wanted feature actually works? -
Please correct me if wrong, but currently landing the Tomcat on a carrier seems extremely simplified. To my surprise, I managed to land my very first Tomcat carrier landing without any hassles, even though I absolutely slammed it into the deck. HB talks at length about how working with its SMEs has meant rigorous adherence to the real world Tomcat experience, so it puzzles me that such a fundamental part of the Tomcat experience appears to be so incorrect. HB has mentioned in the past that bolters will be worked on, but this seems to have been bumped down the priority list. There's also the problem that the undercarriage and airframe is indestructible when reacting to heavy landings Also, the physics when hitting the deck seems really strange - almost as if I'm landing in a big marshmallow, and not a steel deck. I've bounced 100 feet into the air after snagging a wire, only to watch the nose gently float down and make contact with the deck nice and peacefully. Am I the only one who thinks that accurate carrier landings should be high on the list of things that need to be resolved? Other than the hook bolter, are there any other things to do with the physicality of landing that will be improved?

That turned out to be a load of BS. Ignore it.

So is there no fix other than to run DCS at a locked 60Hz refresh rate?

Thanks for the reply. Glad you're enjoying your VR experience, and I look forward to the day when I can join you.

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators

Brilliant, thank you. Can you please provide a download link? Also, can I please request a small feature? The F-14A has five different AB zones, and there is a small thumping sound as each one is triggered. It'd be awesome if there was an accompanying rumble in Jetseat's AB motors for each thump. Doable? -
Was just about to post to request F-14A, and you're already all over it! Nice one!

Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
GunSlingerAUS replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Will the Sparrow and Phoenix missile issues be hot-patched? Having 2 of our 3 AA weapons bugged makes the Cat basically unusable. Unless I'm doing something wrong, and both missiles are fine? -
I've been offline for a few weeks, but came back today to find that I'm now getting screen tearing and stuttering, most noticeable when turning my head sideways. I'm getting around 85fps, my display's refresh rate is 120Hz + Gsync compatible, and I am running the TrackIR 5 pro. I've tried Vsync on/off/fast, limiting FPS to 80, setting Gsync to either full screen or windowed, and alt+tab when in-game. Nothing fixes the issue - in the past it ran absolutely perfectly, with zero stutter associated with head movement. Any ideas?

Great to hear you're satisfied with your purchase, and don't suffer the same buyer's remorse that I did. Happy virtual flying, and I hope to join you some day in the not-too-distant future!

The 3090 performance has been exemplary in 2D, but I still don't get anywhere near 90fps on the SC/Tomcat with with my Reverb - from memory I was locked at 45 which obviously meant reprojection was on. Can I ask what you've done to see such a huge fps increase? I'm most interested in things that deliver palpable, noticeable improvements, such as: - final render resolution - MSAA - shadows - scenery detail - any VR mods, such as the shader mod. I really shouldn't jump down this rabbit hole yet again, but I'd like to check to see if there's something new you're doing that I've missed. I've seen dozens of Reverb owners saying they can't hit 90 on the SC deck, so it'd be interesting to see how you did it.

Phew! Thanks guys - setting up controls is arguably the most frustrating barrier to entry in DCS, so it's a relief to see I don't have to do it all over again.

Can I ask what why this feature was created when it's totally invisible from the cockpit? Does this mean the cockpit view that is the default is incorrect, and if so, should HB change the default view position?

20 does seem a bit low, but not insane if there's a lot going on.

A little help with lost of all key bindings...
GunSlingerAUS replied to Pally's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Seriously? Sigh - I haven't opened the game yet, because I don't want to lose all of my keybinds. I'm guessing there's nothing I can do? Unfrickingbelievable if true. -
Title says it all - I've just downloaded the new open beta, but don't want to open it for fear of losing all my Tomcat keybinds. I've heard this a thing - don't really want to spend hours setting everything up again!!!! I'm running the Virpil MongoosT throttle and base, with VFX grip. MFG Crosswind pedals, and TrackIR 5 pro. Is there anything I need to back up before I open the game?

I bet I can get your fps down into the low 40s - run SSLR, 4K, 2xMSAA, and do the SC Tomcat Carrier Quals. I have a 3090 as well as a 9700K @ 5GHz, and this seneds my fps plummeting when on the deck. Runs great everywhere else though :). I paid a crazy AU$3000 for my 3090, and I have zero buyer's remorse as well - it is the fastest GPU available, and performs like it! I didn't buy it for value for money, I bought it because I wanted the absolute best possible PC performance available.

Does this require a saved profile for us to load though? -
I would be exgremely cautious about buying a Reverb if the price tag is not trivial for you. There are many, many DCS flyers who have found the VR experience to be worse than 2D, and it's a painful discovery to make if you've spent a lot of money to get there. Many of us have the absolute best PC specifications available. If at all possible, buy it from somewhere that allows you to return it, or get some serious hands-on time with your chosen HMD elsewhere.

Given that carrier landings are such a huge part of the Tomcat experience, and that they're currently, well, a bit Ace Combat in scope, the lack of priority this issue is being given is disheartening. The undercarriage also appears to be built from Vibranium, but I guess that'll get looked after some time later.

hey guys, installed this, and to be honest I prefer the game with the haze. I know default haze is not realistic, but if I use this mod I get horrible horizons during night and clouds. Any way to remove this mod?
