I'm not sure how to do this?
-
Damn DCS. Anti-bovine trash. Bovine lives matter!

Hey mate, the latest version keeps crashing repeatedly. It eventually works after a couple of restarts. This is the first time I've seen this issue, and it's happening on all 4 of my Android tablets.

[REPORTED]VR Performance OB 2.5.6
GunSlingerAUS replied to Gripen 4-1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I tried the Cosmos, but returned it after it failed to live up to expectations. Got the HP Reverb, but sadly the issues with reprojection caused by DCS performance means that even with an RTX 3090 I failed to maintain 60fps in your average combat mission. Great when flying a solo approach, but it all goes to crap when the missiles start flying. -
You sir, are a god... this worked perfectly. Almost. Unfortunately, I found an issue that kinda screws it up - the F-14B HUD does not zoom at the same time as the rest of the cockpit. So it looks really freaking weird, with the HUD at the normal zoomed in view, with the rest of the pit zoomed out. Sigh.

Found the F-14B values in my snapviews.lua file, edited the FOV line, increased it in increments of 50, no dice. I forgot to mention I'm a TrackIR user - so I don't think snapviews work with head tracking on?

Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery Trainer
GunSlingerAUS replied to Bankler's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Just want to say what an amazing tool this is. As far as I can tell it's working flawlessly - I'm doing the F-14B hot start. I'm a little confused about the difference between the pattern and break options though? Also, is there any chance you can include a PDF of the circuit diagram with your download, so we can print it or kneeboard it? -
Isn't she due this month? I would assume that we'd get the landing lights display.
-
Woohoo! Light panel inbound! That's all four of my tablets in use. Thanks a million mate, best $17 I ever spent.
-
No offence taken at all! Interesting that you are sensitive to motion artefacts in other display types, such as motion judder. Do you notice the rainbow effect with DLP projectors? I have a theory that some people are much more sensitive to these kinds of effects than others, which is why I hate reprojection with a passion, while others can't see it at all. As I mentioned, if you're not susceptible to reprojection, the 3090 Ti will give you a LOT of headroom when it comes to GPU bound scenarios. Finally you'll be able to dial up all the GPU-beating settings, such a resolution, textures, and effects. I think mirrors might also be reliant on GPU, as the 3090 has made enabling them a non-issue. So yeah, if you enjoy DCS VR already, you're going to really get a kick out of the increase in visual quality the 3090 allows. Just don't expect it to perform miracles, dragging fps up to match the native HMD refresh rate in CPU-bound scenarios.
-
I'm keeping a very close eye on CPUs, as I skipped 10th gen with Intel, so the next round of processors will be worth an upgrade. Sadly I don't think either AMD or Intel's upcoming offerings will be fast enough to bring DCS fps up to the same as the HMD refresh rate. Not for a few years at least.

I'd assume it's a combo of 4xMSAA with the 4K resolution.

I ran three tests. First was the Tomcat dogfight instant action, second was the Tomcat carrier quals instant action, third was the complex mission referred to here: I didn't record my fps, as I was looking for reprojection, the thing that ruins VR for me. Personally speaking, FPS doesn't matter if I'm still getting the issues associated with reprojection. It was present in all three. The one that had the least was obviously the 1v1 Tomcat dogfight, but even that chugged up when in close range to the bogey, or flying anywhere near a moderate amount of buildings or trees. This was just an impressions post - my point is that if the scene is CPU limited, it's still going to be. However, if you're seeing high GPU frametimes, the 3090 will remove this entirely, provided you don't run at silly SSAA settings.
-
Nope - I found the image quality degrade associated with this not worth it. Sure, I can get the PC to maintain 60fps in a variety of ways, but it looks horrible in the process.

After two days of testing my Gigabyte RTX 3090 Gaming OC in other games, I can give some impressions of how it performs with my Reverb in DCS. I used fpsVR to check frame times. I should state that I had ZERO stability issues with the card, even before the new drivers were launched that apparently fixed these. Firstly, the 3090 is not a silver bullet which overcomes the CPU bottlenecks of DCS in VR. If you were getting CPU spikes before, you're still going to get them. So this means any scene which has shadows, buildings, heavy AI, etc, is still going to chug up. For this reason I'm sticking with 2D, as I personally can't stand async reprojection and the associated artefacts. The 3090 is stuttering and ghosting almost as much as with my 2080 Ti when playing in VR. HOWEVER... When the game isn't CPU bound, the 3090 gives a LOT of headroom over the 2080 Ti. You'll be able to run the Reverb at full resolution (ie all WMR settings at quality, not performance) without it bogging down the GPU when there's high MSAA, water, or particle effects. If you're using fpsVR and noticing that your GPU is the one causing high frametimes, not your CPU, the 3090 (and most likely the 3080) will solve that. If it can do it on the Reverb, it'll do it on lower resolution HMDs. So for those who don't mind async reprojection, the 3000 series will allow you to dial up the MSAA and resolution, giving you much better clarity. I'm sticking with 2D for now, as I can now run with every setting maxed, as per the attached screenshot and get 60fps (the screenshot also doesn't show SSAA, which I can run at 1.5x and still hit 60fps). Note that my gfx options screenshot has SSLR enabled, but to hit 60fps I had to disable this. SSLR is still not feasible, even with a 3090 - it caused my fps in the attached scene to drop down to 37fps from 60. ED may as well abandon that setting entirely IMHO. Now, to test some MSFS2020...

Thanks guys, I'll give these suggestions a shot. Habu, where can I find my snapviews.lua, and I'm guessing the number 13 in your post is what I should change?
-
It would be a trivial piece of work for ED to build a benchmark. And considering how often game performance is discussed, along with tweaking suggestions that swing from helpful to utterly absurd, it would help out a huge portion of the players. I'll check out the other guy's benchmark - no point in repeating a piece of work that's already been done.
-
With so many coming in to VR thanks to the Reverb G2, as well as the 3000 series, we're going to see a lot of people coming in with performance queries. Unfortunately DCS still doesn't have a built-in benchmark, even though it's as simple as running a track file and recording the min, avg, and max fps. So how about we come up with a test ourselves? I would suggest we use assets that are available to all - that being the SU-25 and Caucasus. I'd also suggest we use one of the instant action missions. As for the graphics settings, the presets would be most repeatable between users, as well as come up with one or two of our own, as the VR preset is quite frankly ugly. What do y'all think?

Anyone planning on getting the 3090 for VR?
GunSlingerAUS replied to kevman's topic in Virtual Reality
Mine arrives in less than 48 hours. Excite, much. But not for DCS VR - for running my LG CX 77" at 120Hz with VRR and HDR. May have to wait a little bit for the firmware update though. -
[result] rtx 3080 for VR
GunSlingerAUS replied to dg6546's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
From the vast majority of other engines that use Vulkan, especially those that are ported from DX10/11. Even worse, ED just said in an interview that it's going to take a long time for Vulkan to come out, and we all know what that means. So, I reckon our best bet is a quick fix on the shadows, which we can already do ourselves, or wait for 6 and 7 GHz CPUs. I'm not giving up hope entirely, my 3090 is due to arrive on Monday, and I will be testing DCS in VR with it, but I do not expect any miracles. -
[result] rtx 3080 for VR
GunSlingerAUS replied to dg6546's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Can I just say that you don't need to worry about having your PC set up correctly - it's child's play to set up a PC these days. I did the VR runaround when I first got my Reverb, and realised that the vast majority of suggestions are placebo. Note that I come from a benchmarking background, which I made a career out for 20 years. Not boasting, just saying I know how to set up and test hardware of all kinds. The fact is that DCS is CPU limited in situations with complex scenery, lots of shadows, more AI, and other units. I don't think there is a fix for this until we see 7GHz CPUs, as ED is not going to be able to deliver a Vulkan port for many years. Even when they do, it does not guarantee more than a 10% increase. -
Yeah, freeflight is pretty easy to maintain a good 60fps+. It's when you're flying with other jets that it becomes a shitshow for me. Good news is that my 3090 is confirmed to arrive in 48 hours. I'll post my impressions a few days later.

That is exactly what I mean - yep, tried that, no worky. There's gotta be a LUA value somewhere which determines this.

I'm wondering if there's a way to change default cockpit zoom level, as I always bring it back a few notches to get the best view. My Virpil throttle has a detent on the zoom slider in the middle though - I want that to correspond to my preferred zoom level, not the default. I've attached screenshots of the default, and what I'd prefer to it to be. Any ideas?
