  1. The resolution was never supposed to be better than the Vive Pro, the PPI is actually less if I recall correctly...but the pixel pattern lends to better text clarity. This is for the 5K+, I'm not as well versed on the 8K. But yes, DCS is a disaster when it comes to VR optimization, so pretty much no one here is going to be able to get satisfactory performance out of it unfortunately. At least not until these so call "VR optimization/improvements" are finally released.
  2. Lol'd at you saying the Pimax isn't a "true 2nd gen headset" based on the fact that DCS is so poorly optimized it doesn't run worth a shit on it  Sounds like a DCS problem, not a Pimax problem.
  3. For the stuttering on rolls, etc, make sure you have Game Mod selected to OFF in Windows settings. Make sure I’m Nvidia CP you have Virtual Reality Pre-rendered frames set to 2. These settings are cured the “my frames are high but I’m getting stutter in DCS” for many, many people. Worth a shot as these are best practice settings anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I unfortunately made the mistake of not backing up being an immediate pre-orderer, so, I had to pay double what the backers did and I'll receive mine a couple months later than them...but when I do, I will provide a nice write-up to compare to my Rift CV1 and Odyssey+
  5. Jabbers doesn’t use SSAA in VR for obvious reasons, but he does have a > 1 PD. He uses that same > 1 PD with all other modules, so that is a null variable. All else equal, he sees a ton of shimmer in other modules and next to no shimmer in the Tomcat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. DCS and Pimax Dunno, ask Heatblur and their testers... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Wonder how Heatblur optimized their textures for VR so there’s zero need for MSAA in VR then? [emoji2373] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. In other words, maybe in 2020 boys! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Fantastic question, I believe this has been brought to light in the past (and proven to be modeled incorrect currently) but the bug still remains. Curious to hear of ED's perspective.
  10. All the other sims seems to run great with it while DCS still runs like trash per this guy (and the responses following his). DCS is going to need a lot more than Brainwarp to make it not suck when it comes to VR performance.
  11. Wait, Vulkan isn't going to give me a locked 90 FPS in VR??!
  12. The two 8856K7's showed up, they are great (as expected): But more importantly, over the weekend I built my new rig. With my Pimax 5K+ on the way soon (I hope), and while I am waiting for the OpenHornet plans to be finalized so I can get to work on building the real cockpit, I figured now was a good time to build the new rig... CPU: Intel - Core i7-9700K 8-Core Processor - OC'ed to 5.1ghz on all cores CPU Cooler: Corsair - H115i RGB PLATINUM Liquid CPU AIO Cooler Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z390 AORUS MASTER ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory - OC is still TBD Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB STRIX GAMING Video Card - OC'ed to 2100mhz Core Clock and +500 on Memory Clock Case: Lian-Li - PC-O11 Dynamic (White) ATX Full Tower Case Case Fan: 6x Corsair - LL120RGB LED (Three Fans With Lighting Node PRO) 43.25 CFM 120mm Fans ran on a Corsair Fan Controller Commander Pro Monitor, PSU, SSD's, peripherals, etc are recycles from my old rig. The exception being I changed mouses to the wireless Logitech G903, which is absolutely fantastic for anyone looking for a new mouse. A pic from before I dumped the CPU in: Up and running: Now I just need to figure out how to use the Corsair iCUE software so I can change the damn lighting from RGB or plain white, to Red White and Blue to jive a little better with the freedom I'm spreading in the Hornet.
  13. This, it's terrible at the moment...especially in VR.
  14. Any of these improvements would be absolutely incredible!
  15. Agree 100% with the OP’s primary points, this sim is great in some respects but really lacks in others — one of which is a lack of a solid, engaging multiplayer engine. OP, be warned that people will refer to Blue Flag, DDCS, and other servers as “running Dynamic campaigns,” but know that they aren’t true DC’s. Not even close to it. Don’t set yourself up for a letdown. They are fun but they are very limited by the mission editor and DCS engine, they aren’t DC’s as you know them. As someone else said above, a recent newsletter provided a bit more of a preview into the future but most of that still seems a ways off from release. In due time hopefully we will see what the sim has been so sorely missing for a long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Excluding the Master on the IFF panel, there are: one on the ILS panel (may ignore), Anti Skid, Master Arm (using another switch I own for this), Auxiliary Release, L Gen & R Gen (may ignore or use cheaper switches instead), FCS Bit, and maybe a couple others. I have the switch below that I am planning to use my as my Master Arm, though, so these will probably end up being Anti Skid and either Auxiliary Release or FCS Bit for me. I am using the below for my Master Arm because it is an On-Off-(On) locking toggle, and on the Tomcat I can use the momentary down actuation to flip the Master Arm cover up so I can flip it to "On" with the up actuation...won't be 1:1 with the Hornet, but its very close and will avoid a headache with other modules.
  17. The last of the real toggle switches just arrived, assuming my inventory of the Hornet pit and what I have on hand already is accurate.... 2x Cutler Hammer EATON MS21027C232 locking 2-way toggles: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. According to my August 2017 email exchange with him, he told me the same thing... ”They will be done by end of September 2017 and out by October or November 2017.” Plenty of others can share their stories of quoted timing that never materialized. Take what he says as a grain of salt, until proven otherwise. Great guy, great pedals, but he’s lost a lot of stock from me over the gross mismanagement of the elusive combat style pedals over the last 3 years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Even if you buy a $1000 binned chip off of Silicon Lottery, you’re still going to bottleneck in VR. So, yes, you’re 100% right...it’s very, very sad. No idea how the VR optimization remains this poor for DCS (can’t comment on non-VR as I’m not close enough to it the last couple of years). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Saying “any brand mobo will do” is flat out incorrect. Sorry, but IMO that’s poor advice. For DCS you need the highest clock speed, for the highest clock speed you need to overclock your CPU, and for the highest overclock you need a very good OC’ing board. So don’t skimp on your mobo, get a good one. First, you need to power everything reliably... so get a Gold or Platinum PSU that will more than cover your wattage (and not eventually fry your components). Do your research on the best brands, I have my preferences but you should do your own digging and come to a conclusion. Go for a 8700K, 9600K or 9700K on CPU. Plan to OC the hell out of it, so either get a badass air cooler or at least an AIO. Of the ones available and tested, the 115i Platinum is returning the lowest temps. Research these and know that a few degrees isn’t a huge deal, but lower is always better. Get 32GB DDR4 RAM, at least at 3200mhz. Lower latency and better timings are always better. Find B-die kits with tight timings that OC well (will also be dependent on your mobo). Depending on your chip selection, find a Z370 or Z390 motherboard. If the latter, the Gigabyte Aorusp Master and ASRock Taichi are the best for overclocking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Correct
  22. Ditto, this is what will take DCS to the next level for me. I couldn't care less about more modules at this point
  23. Without sensor(s) you don't have 6DOF, or at least that as been my understanding. So no, it wouldn't be fit for use with DCS.
  24. Stock (soft) cams for me, with the strongest springs installed, with the WH grip. I then fully tension the pitch axis spring, and only give a few rotations of tension on the roll spring. A realistic balance is that the roll axis will feel about 50% as tensioned as the pitch axis.
  25. I own quite a few Honeywell and Cutler Hammer MS part number toggle switches, most of which are the part numbers used in the real Hornet, so I think I can give a fairly accurate response to this. The mil spec toggles have a very nice “thunk” sound to them when they click in to place, but I doubt you’d be able to hear it with headphones in and a helmet on. Seems a bit embellished IMO, most likely by design. Disclaimer: I say “doubt” because I’ve never been in a running jet with headphones and helmet on to say for sure.
