Thanks for the clarification, AndrewW!
-
Yes, just lean to the right until they are both aligned. I read somewhere that nowadays it is also used to check the helmet mounted display alignment, but not really sure about that.
-
It is and old style iron sight for backup aiming, as used in the WW1 aircraft or most small arms.
-
Yes, could be a typo. I see that the ALQ-167 is basically a training ECM pod but it was actually used in combat during the Gulf War. Thanks for pointing that out. We are not getting that one in DCS, right?
-
In this text (see attachment), "MRT" Fox explains how his Hornet flight had an ALQ-67 pod the night he shot down his MiG-21 in the 1991 Gulf War. Anyone has information about this pod or even pictures? I cannot find much about it. Will there be anything similar to this in the DCS Hornet for immersion recreating these missions?

F-14 May Development Update -- Campaigns & Content!
escaner replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yes -
I am not sure what the clock update pretended, but now the second hand in the center counts to 15 and then resets to 0. Also, the Special modes - Unlock keybinding (= Backspace) disappeared in my installation. Am I the only one?

F-14 May Development Update -- Campaigns & Content!

I guess the guy who wrote the Caucasus campaign intro has read 'Red Storm Rising', right? :) -
I can second Basher's recommendation, and even enjoyed more this other book: https://www.amazon.com/Debrief-Complete-History-Engagements-Present/dp/0764327852 There is another Osprey book (F-15C Eagle vs MiG-23/25 in the Gulf War) that describes a few more combats, including an F/A-18 kill by a MiG-25, which is not that easy to find. Some more stuff, MiG-21 kills by F/A-18: Fox's view http://www.tbo.com/list/military-news/altman-centcom-deputy-commander-recalls-mig-shootdown-20140504/ Mongo's view Here read the full description of the video, the actual combat is a bit hidden. https://www.nytimes.com/1998/11/15/magazine/status-is-for-navy-fighter-pilots-an-air-to-air-kill.html

I checked the Gun ARM and the fuel pump issue and they were fixed back in the four weeks ago patch, along with the NTTR missions added. I don't know the rest of the changelog.
-
Actually yesterday's changelog is exactly the same as four weeks ago. Either it is a typo or there are no significant chages for the Mirage in this patch (*). * BD has reported that some missions got incorrectly updated, but he keeps them in the cloud so they can be manually updated, no big deal here.

Those are meant for actual switches that stay in position. You have other entries for keyboard implementing similar functions

Agree 100%

I am doing the training missions and I have found the following problems: Mission 2 - Circling Pattern and Landing Most of the messages appear with subtitles in English, but two of them appear with subtitles in Russian. On is when established on final and the second one on the ground. Mission 3 - Flight and Radio Navigation After takeoff, you are ordered to turn around 180º back to the field when 30 Km out. Short after this, the instructor thinks that you have overflown the TACAN again, but it is not so yet. In the approach, when switching the RSBN from "GLIDEPATH" to "LANDING", the "CDI" and "glidepath" bars in the RMI/HSI do not work and the green lights in the RSBN radio turn off. Yes, I know how an ILS works and I am aligned with the runway. EDIT: I have tried to make a quick mission in Mozdok and the RSBN ILS works fine there, don't know what the problem is with the training mission

Thanks a lot! I was wondering why my speed was in Knots when all the performance references are in Km/h. It is nonsense, this option should be linked to the module, not the whole simulator.
-
Thanks a lot guys. Its is just that I was reading the manual and could not understand how the "N" thingy worked out of it. I will try it later in the sim.
-
I read in the manual that the N switch in the VTB can be used to select a waypoint with Bullseye coordinates. How is this selection actually done and how is it used to correlate or navigate with coordinates referenced to Bullseye? I cannot find it. Thanks!
-
Unfortunately there are still many controls that cannot be associated to controllers or keyboard. :(

Thanks a lot for this thorough update, I am very excited for this module, looks like it will be awesome! :) BTW, those Jester callouts in the last video are pretty cool, but not standard. May I suggest to use the brevity code whenever possible? SPIKE/SPIKED (direction) RWR indication of an AI threat in track or launch. DIRT ** RWR indication of surface threat in search mode. See MUD. MUD (type w/direction/range if able) 1. RWR ground threat displayed with no launch indication. 2. RWR indication of surface threat in track mode. See DIRT and SINGER. SINGER (type/direction) RWR indication of SAM launch. SAM (direction) Visual acquisition of a SAM in flight or a SAM launch, should include position. TRASHED Missile has been defeated. E.g. how could be changed: - "Sh*t SPIKE, close" -> "Sh*t, SPIKE, 11 o'clock, close" or "Sh*t, MUD SA-8, 11 o'clock, close" for a more updated phraseology - "OK, we've been launched now" -> "OK, we've got a SINGER, SA-8, left 10 o'clock" - "Missile launch, BREAK left" -> "SAM, 7 o'clock, BREAK left" - "Missile missed" -> "Missile TRASHED" The phraseology can be found e.g. here: https://fas.org/irp/doddir/army/fm1-02-1.pdf

OK, tried again and yes, I had to ask JTAC to "lase on", this is what I was missing. Thanks S_Froggy! :) This time also went slower, at 450 KCAS and there was more time to spare, but a bit slow for my liking in those circumstances. ;) Very nice campaign Baltic. Straightforward and immersive, as always!
-
I have contacted JTAC. Do I explicitly need to ask him for LASER ON? Only did this once in the F-5 GBU-12 training mission and cannot really remember. There is very little time for all that chit-chat: even starting right when the message appears, halfway though the popup my pilot is still notifying IP inbound...

It is well known that the UNI-BAD method has never worked in the Mirage. When am I supposed to drop the bomb? Seeing the cue coming up, the obvious spot would be when it passes the velocity vector, but that always drops the bomb short. So what should I use?
-
It is the in flight restart procedure and a drawing of the restart envelope. "Avant" is what you need to do before starting the procedure and "Après" after the engine is relit.

The A-10 has an emergency Manual Reversion Flight Control System. It is the same: cables moving the trim tabs. From memory, so I could be wrong, back in the 1991 Gulf War it was not allowed to land the A-10 in manual reversion but several pilots going back with damage tried it, some with better luck than others.
