Eagle Dynamics: Request a rethink on spotting mechanics.
Schmidtfire replied to Waxer's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Thousands of DCS players cannot be wrong. Seems like new threads about spotting pops up every week here or on Hoggit. In theory ED’s approach might be correct. But It does not factor in current hardware limitations. Other issues connected to this are color/contrast were units blend with the sky, strange behaviour with units popping in/out during zoom etc. Hope to hear a response from ED soon on this issue. If they want WWII to grow, proper spotting is essential. -
Besides spread, one issue might be that not all the bomblets are rendered in-game. Needs some testing, but in lua file some bombs have 247 bomblets but only 30 are rendered by default. If I change the value to 247 rendered the fps drops a LOT (but looks cool). If this improves damage or hit probability, I don’t know.

Which Mig I should buy? (A/G/S)
Schmidtfire replied to AnsemAsphixya's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
Worth noting is that the MiG export models were downgraded. Often referred to as ”monky models”. Downgrades was slightly less for trusted Warzaw Pact countries. -
Which Mig I should buy? (A/G/S)
Schmidtfire replied to AnsemAsphixya's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
MiG29A: First version. MiG29G: "German version" MiG29A but modified. Can carry drop tanks under wings. Also warning system "Betty" has german voice. MiG29S: Newer generation. Internal ECM Jammer. Slightly better radar. More internal fuel. Can carry R-77 Active Missile (russian Amraam). Can also carry the extended range ER and ET missiles. Also has more advanced flight control system (not simulated). Has more loadout options for Air-Ground missions compared to 29A. MiG29S is the most capable version. MiG29A and G are fun for challenge or for historical reasons. All variants are included in Flaming Cliffs 3 package or the MiG-29 separate module. Worth noting if this is your first DCS purchase: Flight modeling is excellent PFM. But cockpit is not clickable and systems are a bit simplified. Later versions of the MiG-29 (like 9.15 or 9.31) are not avalible and will not be. Modeling of new russian aircraft in high detail is a "no go" for several reasons. -
@Harlikwin I think you might be complicating this a bit :) Easiest way would probably be to use same old tech as for AWACS. But set E-8 so it scans and reports vehicle groups.

It’s the other way around. F-86F was released way before MiG-15bis. What irritates me a bit is that it is so easy and quick to fix in the lua. Yet It has not been touched since release. Such an incredible work of Belsimtek, falling on the finish line...

As others have mentioned, it is a sim. But TGP is coming and also data cartridge functionality. Should be very easy to create waypoints and designate them as targets (for pre planned strikes) Also, will it be possible in the future for JTAC to send target data directly to the Hornet?
-
E-8 would be awesome. TGP and Eyeball sort of work, but would be nice to get more precise positions of enemy convoys and other targets.
-
My tip is to use DMT and only equip TGP for missions with laser guided munitions or recon flights. I find it unreliable at the moment. Especially in stressful situations it can really throw you off. So how to find targets without the TGP? Use NAVFLIR in hud (even in day missions) in conjunction with the DMT. Your SA will be more limited, but it is reliable. Or if all you want to use is TGP. Put TDC action to a hard to reach button.

This is an old bug (2016-ish). CBU-52 pattern is too small & narrow. Spread is 200ft but should be 700ft. Also the bomblets seems very ineffective. Barely killing unarmoured trucks. See this thread for further info on the issue: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=171543 Hope that this will finally get fixed. It should be a very destructive weapon on the F-5E :) Thanks!

Another great look at the radar scope in operation :) at 14:15min mark.

Sniped! I was just gonna post the same thing :) Great job on the I-16! Please move forward on DCS: An-2 Im confident it will be a very popular aircraft to fly in DCS.
-
The whole point spending tons of cash on these modules are accuracy compared to the real thing. For the price of a AAA title, Im expecting top fidelity in the line of the A-10C, Ka-50, Mi8 etc. If Im looking for simplified or guesswork avionics I might aswell fly FC3 aircraft instead :)

Any info on LS-6 PBG variants we get with JF-17? And will it be possible to double or tripple rack them on a single pylon? From what I can find there are several different variants: 500kg 250kg 100kg 50kg The LS-6 100kg is quite close to the GBU-39/SDB in terms of weight. A bit lighter.

The mod is from mid 2018, so it might not longer work as it should. Im to lazy to update :music_whistling:, but anyone else feel free to edit. Should be easy and straightforward.

9M and magic on C101 are rear aspect only?? [FIXED]
Schmidtfire replied to Rabbisaur's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
You are correct about real world implementation. But real world has nothing to do with DCS code. The missile "lock" or "Launch Authorized" are module dependant in DCS. In flight the missile will use rear / all aspect capabilities. But until launched it is up to the aircraft. That is why on C-101CC, Aviodev has to code the lock/launch parameters so missile can be fired as all-aspect. It is up to the aircraft module until the missile fly through the air. @Rabbisaur: I highly doubt that you can get a proper lock and launch head on with L39. But if you can - great, in that case a bug since release has been fixed :) -
+1 :)

Schmidtfire replied to Rabbisaur's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
L39 cannot fire ”head to head”. C-101 suffers same issue as the Hawk did (Aim-9M rear aspect only). You are right that the coding is in Aviodev’s hands, but this is an issue that has affected several modules over the years. -
Amazing! Beamscanner, are u watching this? Rare stuff! :)

HOBS = High-Angle Off-Boresight Just found out that it was introduced with the AIM-120D.
-
What about HOBS functionality? Should the Aim-120B/C be able to do that or is that for Aim-120D only?
-
Great tutorial (as always) from Redkite Video below is no tutorial, but can give you some inspiration from a real pilot. I found it very helpful. Especially for takeoff and the 60deg nozzle approach with power set.

Cockpit builders, why do you fly with cockpit view?
Schmidtfire replied to Marcq's topic in Home Cockpits
Because the way DCS does it you can see through the skin of the airplane. Imagine F-35 type views ;) I think that view should be redone, there are plenty of cockpit builders that get into trouble. Other things that would be nice to have: Easier way to export and place viewports aswell as remove the ability to block sensor exports on multiplayer servers. -
+1 I am also wondering about that. Did a test yesterday. Flying head on towards a MiG-29 @ 9000ft. Full burner. Got "Shoot" cue at about 20nm. Fired Aim-120C and it barely reached the target at a couple of hundred knots. Should the missile almost be stalled out when fired at the "Shoot" cue? Seems like a terrible suggestion by the aircraft ;) Another thing I have noticed is the loft. Or lack thereof. Aim-120 does not loft very much. The loft on the 7MH is good, but the diving part is really strange. The missile dives down towards target but does not pick up any speed. Might be a bug?
