  1. I've just recently started to get to grips with the landing its far from an "every time" event. At the moment I'm practicing at 50% fuel load What clicked it for me was all of Yo-Yo's advice. The master, he is. Try his suggestion of reducing fuel load to around 33%, its a different bird with that amount of fuel. I actually prefer a steep curved approach at 110 IAS, I set the rudder trim to around "U". Lower her to as near the runway as you dare then gently off the throttle I hardly flare at all, I simply wait for her to settle onto the deck then full stick back immediately After that it's a few taps on the rudder using the turn indicator as my guide, as the rudder becomes less effective small taps on the brakes usually complete the job. I do wobble and stagger like a drunk at times but usually come to halt without having to visit the paint shop Everybody develops their own technique, watch the videos and try techniques till you find what works and what doesn't for you. After that its just grinding practice and suddenly one day it all snaps into place and you wonder what all the fuss was about.
  2. I'll get stick for saying this but the second it's down, watch the turn indicator, it will give you an earlier indication of the swing. All the real life pilots (I am not one) will tell you eyes out the cockpit not on the instruments BUT in real life you can feel the side force in a simm you cannot. Eventually it becomes second nature but that tip was what enabled me to land consistently. The Dora for me is the second most difficult to land (Spit is worse but for entirely different reasons). If you are getting onto the runway with the gear struts intact then you are 99% there Practice Practice Practice..................stick at it.........it will just suddenly snap into place and that's a really sweet moment.
  3. Yes it's very easy to do using the TARGET GUI Nothing to do with Childfan's post I see an awful lot of vitriol directed at TARGET, general nay saying and it's POS etc: For me using GUI's from CH, VKB & TM, TARGET is the easiest, most flexible & bug free than all of the others by some way. I'm not saying use it or don't use it. I just don't really get why it's hated so much by the community when none of the other hardware providers for input seem to have produced anything better. It's not perfect but I'd rather have it than not have it Just Saying
  4. What they all said Probably my all time fave aircraft, could not believe it was coming to DCS It has NOT disappointed
  5. jocko I think I was the requester. Many thanks for this it looks great At last a stable mate for "Pretty in Pink"
  6. Ok Jocko Many thanks & looking forward to it, a nice partner to "Pretty in Pink" Very much appreciated
  7. SUPERB!!! I'd love that skin jocko417, IMHO you have the skins that I nearly always fly. I love Pretty in Pink and the Swedish skin You can either drop it to me via PM, it would be much appreciated
  8. Would love a Spit MK IX in PRU blue as most of the skins so far are combat (with the exception of "Pretty in Pink" which I think is great) How about one similar to Prince Emanuel Galitzine's BS 273, I believe he flew a MK IX I really like skins that are a bit different and I'm not too fussed about historical accuracy, but I believe this one did actually exist http://spitfiresite.com/2010/04/the-very-high-flying-prince.html
  9. I'm only a virtual pilot, but as we are discussing virtual aircraft, then I should be as entitled as anybody ;o) Mustang and Dora both use stick back to lock the tail wheel. I find this is around 2/3rd stick back, in my system anyway. Kurtfurst uses a manual tail wheel lock on the LHS For all of these I use stick back (not necessarily full deflection) and release at a preset speed for each aircraft, to bring the tail up. If you continue to hold stick back after said preset speed then eventually the aircraft will achieve flying speed and attempt to lift from a 3 point position.......................usually that does not end well. Exception so far for me is the Spit. From IRL Videos the stick is also held back during TO, but in the sim I find a neutral stick works best. If it wasn't for the Godamm free pivoting tail wheel, causing you to do Michael Flatley impersonations, it would be the easiest aircraft to lift in the game instead of the hardest (IMHO) I'm a rubbish pilot in the virtual world, but all that's required for any of the warbirds is to watch some videos preferably more than one, as techniques vary. Then practice, practice, practice trying different techniques. You'll eventually find what works for you
  10. Is he not simply referring to the fact that it's normal to hold stick back when taking off in tail draggers, not to the wheel locking? IRL that probably holds true, but YoYo demo'd the Spit TO without stick back, I tried it and it works pretty good
  11. Many Thanks Yes it does
  12. Quick question & apologies if it has been covered. Is it still necessary to update the M-2000C HUD separately or has the M-2000C mod been incorporated into version 1.28?
  13. VinnieJones Take a look at OVGME don't dismiss it as too hard. IMHO its an easier piece of software than JSGME, take a look give it a try & if you get stuck post up. I'll help & so will many others more competent than me (would not be difficult) Otherwise if dead set on JSGME load a second copy to the other version of DCS like you did for the first and the _Mods folder. Make shortcuts for both and rename the shortcuts so as you can distinguish between which JSGME is controlling the mods on which version.
  14. Thanks BIGNEWY, that done the trick :poster_oops: I had looked at WAGS video and in the preamble to showing the map the option came up as soon as entering the editor Now feeling EXTREMELY STUPID
  15. I'm with several others who had the map install automatically, but nothing in the Mission Editor to choose..................just fire straight into Nevada I ran the suggested Updater mods and although the asset pack was not installed it was obvious the Normandy map was, as it did not download anything when requesting the terrain_NORMANDY via the updater. I then ran a repair and also checked the version, it is up to date at 2.1. Ran DCS again and got asked to validate the Assets Pack, did that. Still nothing Activated the Normandy map manually, although it looked like it installed automatically first time, after running the activation, it told me 9 left, so unsure if it activated automatically the first time or not. Re-started DCS and after all that still no further forward, still no map option in mission editor or anywhere else........................unless I'm missing something!!! Getting a bit frustrated!!!!
  16. Superb Very professional!!
  17. I had JSGME running in both Beta & Alpha, for me it required 2 copies of JSGME one in each game folder. Recommend you take a look at OVGME, it's an updated JSGME & allows one mods folder to run multiple versions of DCS. Example I have DCS Beta and Alpha on an SSD in F: drive with JSGME I needed to replicate the _MODS folder for both versions of the game. With OVGME I have all the mods now in a folder in D drive a normal HD, with only one version and use it to load mods for both Alpha and Beta separately. IMHO it has a better interface and features too
  18. Nice flight & you''re obviously a lot more proficient with the Viggen systems than me. Can you tell me what was going on when the Att and Alt hold modes were blinking alternately, don't think I've seen that before so I was intrigued as what caused it
  19. Perhaps a dumb question, but is there an easy way to identify which of the skins no longer work from the skin file? Like a difference in the description.lua or in dds files? I'm just looking for an easy way to identify then delete all the old skins that no longer show up properly as I understand the template was updated some time ago.
  20. I just thought I'd add my tuppence worth, hope you don't mind. So first do a full backup somewhere before you squeeze the trigger I don't know about Win 8 or 10, perhaps others can help, in Win 7 there are some folders that are critical and it depends on the type of install you do. I ended up doing a format then a completely new install. If you don't then sometimes there can be issues. You will almost certainly require a couple of vital folders the ones that I found I needed were User/App Data (you may also need the Public/App Data too) this folder contains nearly all the program preferences for your programs (including TrackIR). First its a hidden folder so go to Control Panel then Appearance and Personalization, under Folder Options click on the Show Hidden Files option. Most of the settings are in the sub folder Roaming, however also check the others (Local and Local Low). After you do your install, you reload TrackIR (for example) and after the fresh reload, go and copy your old TrackIR folder in the App Data/Roaming directory and all your settings shall be restored unto you. This process can be repeated for most (but not all) other applications too. Next is if you want to get your old hardware drivers most of them are in the the Windows/System32 folder. Make sure you have that folder. After the clean install you can check in Device Manager for hardware problems and if necessary pointy pointy Windows to your old copy of System32, have the search subfolder option ticked and that should get you back most of your old drivers if you need them Fisherman82 is spot on, however I just copied across the whole Saved Games directory and replaced it (I run the Beta and Alpha versions). Next don't get me going about the complete and utter piece of nonsense that is StarForce (DCS copyright protection software) maybe its called StarFoce because it works flawlessly in a far off galaxy........it doesn't in mine. Cutting to the chase I had to burn an activation of every module as Starforce decided I had migrated. All I did was a fresh install of Win7 NO hardware changes...........in fact DCS was untouched as it resided on another drive separate from my system drive. You may end up with reassigned addresses to your hardware, in which case after doing what Fisherman82 told you. When in DCS in a module under settings, configuration click in any box in the column of the device you want to reload a profile for, click load profile and point to relevant device (if its a particular module make sure you are in the correct subfolder for that module). DCS should then load it up and when you OK out of Config, it saves the latest copy and from then on your good to go Good luck and apologies if I've been "teaching my granny how to suck eggs"
  21. Ok so I ordered 2 from the German supplier as suggested by Boris and 2 from Hempstead through the link and post from bn880 for which I'm very grateful. Hempstead was very helpful and he shipped 2 rings via normal mail to me from the US to the UK for a REALLY seriously good price The German supplier charge for shipping was a bit strong but we are not talking vast sums here, anticipating the German supplier's rings to arrive weeks before Hempstead's. So both arrived today!!!! I just wanted to point out the German washers apart from being thicker, are sharper edged and made of a harder grade of Teflon (no me neither I thought Teflon was Teflon). Don't get me wrong here I'm not saying the German rings are awful, but Hempstead's washers IMHO knock spots of them in terms of quality of finish and material. He is cheaper and supplies faster than I thought possible too. I just wanted to say thanks to everybody who helped me and while I'm on sing the praises of Hempstead
  22. I'll do that rrohde Thanks for the swift response. I do hope that its at least the TM version as a minimum. If I hear any news I'll post back up here
  23. It's been asked already but not answered Can the Pro be used with the VKB FBM? I was told the first iteration was planned with both the 3 and 5 pin versions, to make it compatible with the older VKB bases. I'm wondering about these grips. VKB also sell the electronic board to convert the newer 3 pin protocol to the older 6 pin, but I don't know enough to know if 1) The board would fit inside the stick 2) If it would cause limitations on the axes & buttons available on the Pro stick
  24. Funnily enough I've been trying to make a profile for the F-5 & the lighting was driving me nuts. Externally it seems a little messed up. I eventually found as you did that the Nav lights need to be turned on, turn them off and you loose Taxi/Landing lights. You can still turn Taxi/Landing lights on and off once the Nav lights are enabled Wish you had posted a couple of days ago for this drove me crazy for quite a while
  25. Thanks Guys that is appreciated Fortunately since I've greased the stick up NyoGel, I haven't been using it so much so hopefully no damage done Going to get both washers methinks
