Sparrows, 4 or 6 of them, and then fill the rest with Winders. Restrict the mission to a mid 80's scenario, so they can remain competitive. And prey they don't face MiG-31's....

This is probably going to sound as a cliche as i'm using it for so many of these episodes, but this has got to be the best one yet! Or at least my favorite one!

PSA: F-14 Performance/FM Development Status + Guided Discussion

Has anyone taken the old lady through her paces above mach 0.8 down low yet? As in testing her above the peak Excess power? IS she close to the specs for 6.5, 5 and 3 at the top end? -
Oh you know, with all the social networks around, the DCS community can often turn into a sewing circle

As i never used the DLC in discrete clicks but in continuous "as needed" intervals that i applied on intuitive basis, i didn't notice this change yet. It should be noted though, i've only captured 3 times since the update and had one bolter (more of a touch and go really) because my hook was up. All on the Forestall. I found the the groove dirty behavior changed though, both how she flies and how she responds to the burble.

I think i've seen Cl charts that state the wings stall at 40 degrees or so. How much of it is available? I guess it would depend how high and how fast you are. And transient alpha could always go higher as usual. BTW, do wings break now on the F-15 or are these just naughty rumors circling around?

SP test only for now, all on BVR instant actions, Marianas and Persian Gulf. No issue with transitions as longs as Jester is in the back. Haven't tried with a human RIO.

This was odd. I use a Frankenstein setups (CH stick and Thrustmaster TWCS throttle. Only some of my mapped functions were lost, flaps up down, speed brake retract extend, and external lights master switch. The first two were assigned to HATs on the throttle and and the last one on a HAT on the stick. No biggie really as remapping them was a minute long task. What functions did you guys lose?

Me too, but still, i somehow like it. It will take some getting used to it, but in a good way. I actually got my first level 3g turn 220ish nots without losing or gaining airspeed. The key is to keep her coordinated and i'm going to enjoy mastering that. BTW, just tested the F-14A at subsonic turning (3, 5 and 6.5g). I won't bother you with the details but it's as precise (if not more) as the F-14B. I was flying through the checkpoints inside 1-4 knots, which is beyond the precision of the table. Also, took the A up to 36000ft, with 2x AIM-54, 2x AIM-7M and 2x AIM-9L, and reached mach 2.06 or something. Didn't test accelerations, but top speed seems also fairly precise at this altitude. Didn't test transsonic and supersonic turning capability. That is more twitchy and will require more work, especially down low, where a slight bank change will take you to the drink. -

No worries mate, we all make mistakes every now and then. -

I bow in respect and in awe (absolutely no sarcasm, i really mean it), he did an excellent job here. I just did some more test flights and and here is the data, both in raw form from the log file and in converted form (the original script is in metric and count turn rate, so i converted it to g-force). I attach the track file as well, just so people get the idea how many passes are required to get it right. Seriously, this needs some precision flying and tight coordination in your turn or you won't pull it off. BTW, for the life of me i could not fly her coordinated enough to get good measure at 3g, i keep flying into my own jet wash and i'm not good enough to compensate And yeah, i don't know what you guys did, but she feels so....... snappy? Is that the right word? I'm a non native English speaker so i am not sure i'm expressing it right. But i feel my grip on her, especially at optimal AoA is much tighter! Again, @fat creason, we who are about to die, salute you! Here's the test flight results! P.S. I've only used data generated bellow 200m here, so to minimize computational error due to changes in the speed of sound. Tacview-20211021-233246-DCS-Sustained turn rate test flight f14B.zip.acmi Looking forward to your results mate. The more data we get, the larger the data sample, the least the chances for spikes to distort our findings! -

Hummigbird got it wrong, i just ran a quick test, using a scripted mission that makes sure you fly within limits and the F-14B is spot on ASL. At least for the few breakpoints i had enough time to check. 409 knots 6.5g, 413 knots 6.65gm 295 knots 4.77g, 335 knots 5.0g.... other modules can only hope to be this close to published data -
Blasphemy! Had someone told me the Vipers were ugly, especially with those conformal thingies for extra fuel bolted on them, i'd give them a cookie! Or beer and pretzels! Whatever they preferred...... But Bugs? Man, i find Bugs to the vie for the 2nd place with Flankers for the most pretty 4th gen fighter ever built!

To the OP, this is by no means an extensive dataset, but he last week i flew the F-18 almost exclusively in different test configurations and at least in DCS and at medium altitude 10-20000ft: 1. A single pair of pylons, depending on mach, seems to decrease your STR by roughly 1 degree per turn, maybe a bit extra. By pylon here, i mean the pylon only, no ordnance attached to it. 2. A second pair of pylons, adds to a total loss ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 degrees per second. Conclusion, the ability of the plane to sustain turns appears to be greatly impacted by the presence of the pylons. Something i should have immediately been made aware off, when those 4 ACE level MiG-15's kicked the living poo out of me when i fought them with the pylons on!

Now that Jester can use target next for ground targets, any chance we get prioritize next for TWS? -

Hmm.....they did carry nukes in that Buck Danny comic book...

My recommendation, embrace the vibes and the rattles. best way to tell what angle of attack you're at by far. True, probably not as important for mud moving, but during ACM it's absolutely essential. After a while, you don't even see the code, all you see is blondes, brunettes, redheads.....

Words of wisdom, i think we've had enough mud wrestling for one year! I have no ide? Do we? Has anyone tried this in action? -
Largely my sentiment as well.

1. Good points, you beat me to them. 2. Potential for anti-surface employment

These keep getting better and better! I was about to share it too And this time they touch on topics directly related to use chair-pilots, like radar latency, jamming targets, doppler filters, missile shots....... loved this episode! -

Is this purely a cosmetic issue? As in, is flap deployment on the physical model related to actual changes in the L/D ratio, that is effecting the flight characteristics, or well....not?
