Sebastian Ang/Mixed reality TV have some other great shots of the Reverb through XP11, and some driving and one of those medieval walk around 3rd person deal games. It looks good so far, although I too would like to see some more detailed DCS pics and vids. He's a reviewer, and has a Reverb for a day already, not a retail customer.

Cheesy video of new CM2 Stick, Warbrd gimbal and T50 throttle
Gman109 replied to mazex's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Great video, you're correct OP, we need more videos. I have several VPC units, 2 T50 throttles, 2 Warbrds, and 2 of the first gen T50s. I'll make a video myself I think now after watching yours. -
3 gaming PCs is why - got tired of having the missus and nephew and niece all whining for me to get off my PC so they could use it a couple years ago, so I continually build 3 new ones now to keep the infighting over use time down.

I know it's ridiculous, but some do it, one of those ebay links has 3 bids already. My point isn't about the Ebay Index links, it's about the lack of the same for the Reverb, which would 100% of popped up if anyone had gotten an order in, as this always, always happens in my experience, with every HMD so far, when there is a lag in easy ordering/access, right from day 1. I'm in no major rush, I've owned every DCS optimal HMD out there pretty much, 3 Rifts, 3 Vives, 3 Vive Pro, 3 Odyssey, 2 Odyssey+, and one Pimax5k. I can wait for the Index and Reverb, but HP still shouldn't be pulling BS stunts like this.

Obviously I didn't rely on the email notification, hence the refreshing of their website, as well as Bestbuy and Amazon, every 10 minutes (or less) today. All options switched from not available to out of stock within that time frame, and I can't find a single mention in 1/2 dozen forums plus Reddit of anyone seeing it in stock for order either. With no preordering options, that means IF it was available today, which I have doubts, but no proof - it sold out in a few minutes from 3 sources, all from others doing the exact same thing I was, checking every few minutes. I somehow doubt that, which IMO means HP just wasn't ready to release it, but doesn't want to look bad after missing the May 6th release. I don't have a problem with that, I'd rather have them sort out any issues they have, but doing a "fake" release, if that's what today in fact was, is pretty lame, instead of just being honest and saying it isn't ready to ship yet for xyz reasons, and that they need to push the date (again). That looks better than this, way better. Also - there are/were numerous Ebay adds for people selling their Index pre orders this week for profit. There isn't a single add for HP Reverb buyers doing the same, something that ALWAYS happens with hard to get and much anticipated PC gaming units like this, up charging ridiculous amounts over retail in almost every case. This is another thing that makes me believe that HP did a fake release today for the Reverb. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Valve-Index-VR-Headset-2-Controllers-2-Lighthouse-Sensors-and-Virtual-Link/192906442058?hash=item2cea1eb54a:g:vBcAAOSw5eBczKaS https://www.ebay.com/itm/Valve-Index-VR-Headset-2-Controllers-2-Lighthouse-Sensors-and-Virtual-Link/392289528371?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131227121020%26meid%3D2182076cc4c7499fa45b4a1d42741ee5%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D192906442058%26itm%3D392289528371&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982

I was refreshing the website every 10 minutes, I had a alarm set every 10 mins to remind me while working all day online, and I didn't miss a single try. When the website went from "Notify me" to " Shop now", it was within about a 6 minute gap, that was the longest possible time I could have been absent from their website, and it was more than likely half that or less, and it was showing "out of stock". That and I never got an email from their "Notify me" signup, which I did with several different email addresses. All the talk on Reddit is that the Reverb switched from "Notify Me/not available", to "Shop now/out of stock" pretty much instantly. I can't confirm that nobody got to order one from HP or Bestbuy, but I sure didn't miss the release by more than a few minutes, and it was sold out from both options, as well as Amazon...

I'd still like to hear Wags opinion of the Rift S, especially compared to the Odyssey+ and Rift, which I know both of which he used while working on and playing DCS in the past. Wags, when the NDA is lifted, I hope you can drop a paragraph or two and give your impression of the Rift S regarding DCS, especially compared to the other/past VR HMDs you've used while developing and playing this sim. I'm using a Pimax5k and a couple Odyssey+ units, and I might grab a Rift S while waiting for Reverb/Index reviews and availability, but it's dependent on if it's worth it to do so compared to the Odyssey+ especially in my case.

There are over a dozen companies that can provide anyone outside of the USA with a US address, where you can have products shipped, and as mentioned in the above post, resent to you address worldwide for a small fee. USA2ME.com, reship.com, viabox.com - the list goes on and on, just Google them.

Agreed. I was going to purchase all of the newer HMD, Rift S, Index, Reverb, and perhaps one other. I already have the Pimax5k and Odyssey+, and have had all the others up until now (Rift Vive, Vive 2.0). I think a better decision now is to wait and see what some reviews say comparing all three of the new HMDS we've all been considering, particularly when it comes to DCS and cockpit/sit down sims and games. I could care less about room scale, where as many reviews focus on this.

Interesting read Foxbat vs Eagle during ODS
Gman109 replied to Oceandar's topic in Military and Aviation
The IrAF did shoot down an F18C with an R40 from a Foxbat during ODS. I read the OP article this morning myself, it was excellent. Reminded me of the article about the double shoot down of the Mig25s, and how the F15C pilot shot so many Aim7 (all of them IIRC), that he was thinking he was somehow going to have to try and gun the Mig25 (difficult due to its speed and acceleration), when he finally got it with an Aim9. The Mig25 pilot evaded several Aim7 and at least 2 AIM9 IIRC, as the Sidewinder back then LOVED Russian flares. -
New F35 internal bay rack, the "Sidekick", allows 3 Aim120/etc AAM missiles per bay instead of just 2 - this gives the F35 6 AAMs in max low observability mode now. While not a game changer, it certainly gives more lethality to the F35 A and C models (it won't fit in the B model bays) in terms of ammunition in a fight. Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
Gman109 replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
Hrrm, going to order and try the Studioform for the O+, great reviews, and after watching a couple I now understand how it takes the load/weight of the HMD a lot better. For $33 incl shipping, seems well worth it. -
Any way to make a custom snapview for VR to look behind?
Gman109 replied to DarkStar79's topic in Virtual Reality
I don't think so. I fly a WW2 online MMO game that has incorporated the ability to look behind/6 o'clock while in VR, using a hat/keypad/whatever. I find this to be very helpful, since VR doesn't take into account the eyeball's peripheral vision - in VR you have to have your head almost at 6 o'clock to see 6 o'clock, where as in reality, you can look straight back if you get your head to around 4 or 8 o'clock position thanks to your peripheral vision ability. IMO this makes VR much less advantageous than say TrackIR, especially in PvP fights - and a button allowing straight back/6oclock view while in VR would help make up for this IMO. -
Agree with others, 4k has just barely established a foothold in both gaming and TV/streaming. 8k is interesting for sure, I haven't seen one up close yet and would like to see the difference between a good 4k screen and an 8k one. The bandwidth just isn't there yet to support it for many internet users for TV/streaming, but mostly it's the CPU/GPU bottleneck for 4k gaming that keeps it from becoming more mainstream IMO. I have a couple $2k 27" 4k 144hz gaming desktop monitors, but I find that the 1440p resolution and monitors is the best option for gaming right now, even with a 9900k cpu and 2080ti/nv link system. Don't get me wrong, 4k is absolutely doable with many gaming titles right now, and playable FPS are maintainable now, but there are $ barriers in the way for many, which is holding 4k let alone 8k back. Still, in a few years it'll be interesting to see where we're all at regarding both TV and gaming LCD resolution and performance.

The last 3 modules that ED/DCS have released have been fantastic IMO, Mig19, F14, and the Hornet. All three are extremely well done, early access release have been great IMO.
-
IIRC you've seen both at a tech show haven't you. Can you elaborate a bit? I have the 5k right now, and with Wags unexpected positive preview/words of the Rift S (which I wasn't planning to buy based on early rumors), the number of other HMDs which I need to try is expanding rapidly. Just trying to gather as much intel as possible, since the HP Reverb, Rift S now, the Pmax8k, Acer's new announced unit, etc etc...
-
I'll try that, but I don't think it's that - the problem is intermittent, and the other planes of motion track fine. Plus it IS tracking, it moves with my head yawing right/left just fine, it's just that the cockpit is coming with me when I yaw, instead of remaining static while just my head moves.

please recommend another "soft" stick
Gman109 replied to derammo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You'll never get a Virpil stick as soft as a VKB stick IMO (I have several Gunfighters, 2 T50 and 2 Warbrds), unless you go out and find some very light custom springs on your own. Using the lightest springs that come with the Gunfighter, you can make the GFMk2RevB even lighter than the Fighterstick (I have several of these as well for comparison's sake). I too prefer a light stick for certain sims (online WW2 PVP mainly), and used the FighterStick since it was a gameport device exclusively for that purpose as well - until the Gunfighter/VKB stick came out. I now have one set up with the springs/cams that come with it out of the box to be pretty much exactly the same resistance that the CH Fighter/Combat sticks give. Haven't been able to replicate that with the Virpil sticks as of yet, despite messing around with a lot of different springs sets I've found here and there. -
I've been getting this problem every now and then, when I'm switching in between Pimax and the Odyssey (but not just). When I'm in game in DCS, it's like the "Yaw" plane of motion of the HMD stops working properly. When I move my head side to side (not turning my head, but moving it left/right while still having my sight fixed straight ahead), it's like the entire cockpit moves with me, instead of staying in place while my head view moves. IE I can't look over the side of my canopy when this happens. Looking up/down, and turning left/right works as normal. Anyone else have this happen with the Odyssey+, and know how to make it stop?
-
I've owned them all too, several of each in fact - Vives/Rifts/Vive2.0/Odyssey/Odyssey+/Pimax5k. Only one Pimax5k though so far. If $ is no object then the best right now IMO is the Pimax5k, agree with the above post. If $ is in the equation, then the Odyssey+ which can be found for $250 on sale is tied with the Pimax5k in terms of bang/$, again IMO. The Samsung is a bit easier to get going, you don't need to purchase a separate base station off of Ebay/whatever, and it's a bit lighter and less cumbersome. Again though, if performance is what you're after, and you want the best current headset available that will be playable with DCS, the Pimax5k is it IMO. In 30 days it'll probably change to the Reverb, depending on price it could also be the best bang/$. The Odyssey+ really is a great deal at $250 though, I spent almost double that here in Canada to be a very early adopter of the Rift, and more than triple that for the first Vives that came out. The first time I used the Rift/Vive it was such a "wow" factor, and the Odyssey+ compared to the Rift blows it out of the water IMO, in terms of clarity and SDE. You can't go wrong with the Odyssey+, and it's also easier to acquire right now than the Pimax. Anyone in the market who isn't waiting to see how the new HMDs play out is nuts though.

What great timing, thanks Wags/ED. I've been constantly upgrading my VR units, first the Vives/Rifts, then to the Odyssey, then the Vive Pro/Odyssey+, now the Pimax5k...Cannot WAIT for the new upcoming VR units now with this news. Hopefully this new performance increase courtesy of Wags/ED will have a good impact on the FPS/capability of new units like the HP one etc.

Does anyone else notice absolutely NO difference adjusting mechanical IPD in VR? I've owned the Vive, Vive Pro, Rift, Odyssey, Odyssey+, and Pimax5k now. Adjusting the IPD with the mech adjustments does nothing other than narrow/widen my field of view, it has no other effect on how the image looks. It just makes the view look a little more/less like looking through binoculars, but that's it. NBD either way for me, IPD adjustments make no difference in clarity/etc for me, none at all. Is this common, or just me?

Introducing the Final Part of the VPCockpit - VPC Rudder Pedals!
Gman109 replied to Cyph3r's topic in VIRPIL Controls
I've been waiting for this and I think when you added Baur we all knew it was coming. Very happy to see this, and will be happy to add a set or two to my hotas collection. Great design, I like the modularity of the top tier set for sure. -
Noobifier's Youtube channel will shortly feature a review of this grip, likely within a week or less. He showed a pic of receiving a review stick a couple days ago on his Twitter feed.

Ditto, and I'm glad Aurelius sounded off in this thread. I've been using SLI since the old Creative Labs/3dfx days, and always get at least 2 cards (used to be worth it to have 3 or 4 GPU arrays). Been running 2 2080ti since they became available, and while there are some games/apps where they give more performance, unfortunately SLI and DCS isn't one of them. Yet. I continue to live in hope that someday...
