Slats go back a while before the 50's. In terms of combat aircraft the Bf-109 had them and as @JNelson has noted, these weren't driven by anything other than the airflow (Automatic Slats).

Have experienced the same thing - though it was air targets on a night mission (Interception of B-52s). As noted it’s connected to the moon and rendering distance but regardless of that, it’s still highly unrealistic and should be tuned

The Tomcat doesn’t do that as the strut is to remain compressed until the end of the cat shot

There’s a mod for this, think it’s called naval ground crew that includes a land based FLOLS that works. But yes, agree, be good to have it from ED

I thought ICLS wasn’t stabilised but ACLS (which isn’t implemented yet) is gyro stabilised (within limits)

Hi Kotor - not all Bs had the sparrowhawk upgrade that added the modern HUD that you are referring to. As noted, we aren’t getting the Sparrowhawk version on the Tomcat.
