  1. that's exactly what people want, they want endless content, now. its unhealthy af
  2. tip is dont use steam for dcs
  3. are they rejecting precontact or are you not getting anything back from them? make sure you are pressing "t4: radio comm 1" and not the "communications menu" bind. if you are being rejected, it might help if you start faster than the tanker, throttle down, then make your call as the speed drops.
  4. practicality encompasses issues including maintenance and weight. ejection seats are explosives -- they need to be checked on and replaced if needed. in addition, while they may be negligible weight penalty in a 1-2 seat aircraft, when you start talking about 200 or so of them, that really adds up. so when we talk about the worth of the 0.01%, we're talking about it being balanced against these costs. nothing comes for free, and aerospace is especially unforgiving. even today as we try to sidestep physical limitations by shifting functionality from hardware to software, power and cooling issues still represent a tether to the tyranny of physics. engineers are not uncreative, rearwards facing missiles are an obvious concept. but shooting off missiles is not as simple as just having a missile launcher, it needs its attendant targeting equipment and in the end adding it all together (ammunition, launch apparatus, support equipment) you are looking at weights that penalize both survivability (speed, maneuverability) and offensive capability (range, payload) and the net gain may even be negative! nowadays the rearfiring missile problem is being solved by high-off-boresight (hobs) + lock-on-after-launch (loal) missiles that can orient themselves after launch towards any target. this is an elegant solution that minimizes weight penalty by not requiring a dedicated missile + launch complex for each hemisphere. of course, as missiles miniaturize even further, we may yet see non-forward-pointing missiles become a reality; the msdm would be a tiny missile intended to intercept incoming missiles and possibly aircraft and they may be siloed not unlike chaff and flares. weight is a significant, perennial issue in aerospace which is why 'fancy ideas dont fly'. by the time a technology matures enough to not pose a weight challenge, there are often advancements in other areas that obviate it altogether, but at the same time, there is never one 'eternal solution': what is a bad idea at one point in time may turn into an excellent idea at another point when proper conditions are met. -------------- also at this point hollywood has become so detached from reality that one may well be able to consider it subversive and destructive. its vision of air warfare is forever mired in ww2 tropes, and only serves to disorient the expectations of the public towards their military. it is good that media such as dcs exist to provide insights on some of the complexities that accompany this field.
  5. i sure do hope this gets added into the game because i cannot wait to haze the everliving fig out of anyone i discover using it lmfao!
  6. remember when brianscooper tried to do a tu-22 module through the ukranians? it didnt fly. you guys just can't get it through your heads that there are people with more power than you and they get to dictate what can and can't be done and your 'logic' has jack squat say on any of it. the law of the jungle has always stood: might makes right, plain and simple.
  7. i think since it's a national security issue for them so they're gonna weigh it based on strategic value, because systems design can give insights on doctrine and employment. an old tactical ground attack unit like a mi-24 is not as sensitive as an air defense unit like mig-25. also would like to see russian ww2 aircraft modelled in dcs so i can enjoy high cockpit workload in full glory
  8. without having looked at the tracks i know often the mission briefing confirmation button is right over the canopy emergency jettison handle on the right, and the click may 'pass through' to hit said handle.

  10. only put the video code inside the tags. (_RJX_GyJLr0)
  11. no lol i would rather accept what i think is flawed artistry than replace it with someone else's, i respect your work at least that much. sorry to pull it so far from the topic but i only felt so pained because i was reminded of how good the mig-19 hipoly renders looked to me before. i only wished that textures would do justice to your meshes.
  12. it's not about what the irl material is, it's about what your materials look like. your cockpit doesn't look like painted wood or metal. the bumpmaps are too strong. pitting and scratches that irl would be fractions of a millimeter you make look millimeter+ deep and so it all looks sandblasted to hell and back. you have a resolution limit on your texture, if you can't do details of a certain fineness, you should try to avoid them or approach them differently. in the end your cockpit simply doesn't look and feel like the photographs you're posting. if you can't see that then there's no point but i assure you there's a reason why heatblur's art draws eyes and yours doesn't. don't worry though ill still buy the mig-23 because its the only game in town. im just saying theres room for improvement if you've got the resources.
  13. just because you guys are blind doesn't mean the elephant doesn't exist. when i say mig-19 texture suck, i don't mean they 'don't have enough detail', it's that the details are poorly executed. ao seems suspect, the bumpmaps are crude, the entire thing looks like its made of concrete. this isn't weathered painted metal, this is colored concrete. it just doesn't stand up to scrutiny. its not a showstopper though and im not gonna be like "im not gonna buy it if it's not made with photogrammetry", i just think that this doesn't quite reach even the baseline artistic standard set by ed in the mig-15 or f-5 (as many complaints as those get; while simplistic, they are solid artistically). i think whoever is doing the textures is trying too hard, in the wrong areas. instead of highlighting strengths while disguising weaknesses, a lot of the 'canned' weathering only serves to draw attention in undesirable ways. i take issue with the rendering of the weathering too, and it all looks pretty unrealistic because irl each individual area weathers in a unique way. you can't just apply bird droppings to every edge and call it a day.
  14. every time i see this thread i despair imagining it draped in the mig-19's arma3-modder-tier textures
  15. it would be wrong to overestimate the zero though, if you look at the records the "inferior" f4f was actually exchanging quite fairly with a6ms. the japanese were willing to make design concessions western nations weren't, the concept of 'better' here requires a very narrow valuation.
  16. radically different designs at even the conceptual level
  17. im sure you will be fine, ed is supportive of any promotional effort. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4315449&postcount=7 might be of interest to you
  18. an actually good idea even i can get behind
  19. what an inspirational thread ive started to campaign for refunds on every comestible that i've flushed down the crapper ps of course everything looks solid when you're drowning in you own tears lalala
  20. acceleration is good but 'boom and zoom' is not how you abuse acceleration mig is terrible at high speeds, do not dive with it roll is mediocre to bad depending on speed, but pitch rates should be snappy the sabre is already an easy aircraft but if you can't handle even that then dont expect to catch a break with the mig
  21. you're stuck on the splash screen? like said above, carrier isnt out yet so it can't be the culprit
  22. why even bother? i would ignore any sort of timeframe estimates because when you think about it there is literally no meaning to an arrival date for us. we're not part of some supply chain, there is no meaningful timing window that we need a module to link up with. what, you gonna plan your next 5 years around being a day1 module keybinder? give me a break. really its like you all just want to larp as middle management
  23. afaik xrowlers are central to orchestrating navy sead, they do the locating and handoff targets to other aircraft.
  24. razbam's artistic and fm production quality simply isn't up to ed standard regardless of feature completion
  25. "i played warth*nder for nearly a decade and i can tell you this is not accurate p-47 behavior"
