  1. Not 100% sure what you mean... I imagine there would be a very small difference between IAS, CAS, and TAS at sea level. Is there some sort of option to switch the HUD between IAS and CAS? I assumed it would display CAS unless there's a major central air data computer failure. Either way I meant indicated as "what you see on the HUD".
  2. A clean A-10 should reach about 330 indicated at sea level. "Clean" and "at sea level" are very important. Also yes, have some fun flying the A-10 with half internal fuel and no gun ammo. She turns on a dime! Edit: re-reading your post, 290 should be plenty for a loop, are you flying with stores attached? Also, are you pulling the stick all the way back and forcing an accelerated stall? "Beeeeeeeeep" = not stalling, but close "Beep-beep-beep" = stalling, let the stick forward a bit
  3. I want it
  4. Yeeeeesssss Personally I hope the Viggen comes before the Hornet. If the Viggen came after there wouldn't be enough hype to go around.
  5. The steam and standalone DCS installs are totally separate from each other.
  6. And thus the CAP-9 was born.

    F-15E?

Yeah, this is going to be amazing. The F-15 is one of the last really well documented fighters. I wonder if they're going to make the flight model from scratch?
  8. Can we not with the political/export/semantics discussion
  9. I think ED has two options here. 1. Long term solution, FIX THE BOOM AI. If you get too close he says ah you'll get it next time and proceeds to do the only thing he knows to do: return the boom to the center. The center is currently inside your plane. The outcome is always the same, you explode. If you get too close he should immediately disconnect and get the boom as far away from your plane as possible . Not shove it into you. 2. Short term solution: make the boom non-collidable. The drogue isn't collidable, so why is the boom? It would prevent aforementioned homicidal acts from effecting you. Edit: Yes, refueling is definitely possible currently. If I find I'm bored and low on fuel I always try to find the tanker and get some practice in. I typically try to stay a bit behind the infamous center position for the last 30 seconds or so to prevent the boom killing me on the way out. Either that or he says "transfer complete... disconne- *BOOM* Recently I've just decided to avoid the risk entirely by flying away ~500 lb before I'm full.
  10. There's also TACAN, which the F-5 supports. None of this frequency rubbish, just a 3 digit code (01X, 01Y, etc). They're at most of the southern airports (Kouboleti, Kutaisi, Batumi, etc) but I'm not sure how they compare to NDB's in terms of availability and range.
  11. Guys there's an entire thread discussing this here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=142994 Also OK yeah the Viggen won't win any beauty pageants but then again you're never really gonna see it in normal operation seeing as it will be camouflaged among the treetops :D
  12. ${1} The video as a whole is interesting if you ignore the constant "Falcon is best" vibe. It goes over the challenges of the high altitude + high subsonic flight regime. The link shows a test flight from the cockpit that demonstrates a dive starting from 43,000 feet. The craft is accelerated to .92 Mach and banked 45+ degrees left and right rapidly. Then the aircraft is accelerated further to Mach .97! (Just to give you an idea, even the F-86 REALLY struggles to get here. The ailerons lock and uncommanded roll is very evident.) They pull out of the dive, spiking the G meter to 2 G's on the way out. (Why doesn't everyone include at least a short description with videos they post?)
  13. How the heck did you even get that high???
  14. A week without any new posts? Unacceptable. This thread must move at at least M0.85 :D Something that's been bothering me for a while, is will the Viggen be able to land on a carrier? It has tough landing gear and reverse thrust. What about other factors like brake strength and the time it takes to engage reverse thrust? Also can it be engaged mid air? Takeoff will be no issue with 3 zones (or was it 4 zones?) of afterburner shoving the plane forward.
  15. Yep, it was confirmed on the Russian forums that it's delayed until next year.
  16. The Mi-8 is a close second to the Huey. It's so much fun to fly and the autopilot makes long cruises a walk in the park. Unlike the KA-50, the AP only helps you and never really gets in your way. It's strong enough to hold you in level flight or a pretty nice hover but if you need to take control it won't try to stop you, in fact it stabilizes the helo when you're flying. It's like autopilot and SAS merged into one "set and forget" system. However: I would go out on a limb say the Mi-8 has the single most complex startup in DCS... even compared to the A-10C it's worse because there isn't a big green warning that tells you when you forget something. Like, if you forget the copilot attitude gyro the autopilot won't engage (?!) Or if you leave the rotor brake on the engines won't even try to start up.
  17. From what I've read the tomcat will rely mostly on automatic wing sweep, but it can be overidden by opening a cover over the sweep control. So, will we be able to gain an advantage by manually sweeping the wings in certain conditions? I.e. sweeping them forward when doing CAS for tighter turning and better L/D ratio or sweeping them aft in preparation for a "bug out" maneuver, or is the automatic system fast enough that it wouldn't make a noticeable difference? What are the limits with the wings swept vs unswept involving AoA, G load, and Mach number? I'd imagine going supersonic with the wings forward would be a VERY bad idea :D On an unrelated note, how big are the tomcat's legs in comparison to other air superiority fighters? It's a very big plane but has similar TWR to an F-15/18, plus the drop tanks look rather small :( is the internal fuel enough that it doesn't rely on bags as much as the F-15/16/18 or is it doomed to hug a tanker for long missions?
  18. It isn't.
  19. Looks finished to me :D
  20. Ugh, saw this was the most recently bumped thread and thought he was planning one for this weekend
  21. IIRC the newer TGP's can display color in CCD (non-thermal) mode. No point in color mavericks, seeing as they aren't used for finding targets.
  22. 25% More than enough for some casual buzzing around. If you want more, refueling to 100% takes less time than starting the engines.
  23. MiG-21 FM changes! H Y P E Y P E
  24. Has there ever been talk of adding an A-10 compatible tanker? There is a KC-135 but it's going 370 kts True airspeed, while the A-10 tops out at 350 kts. If there was one at less than 15,000 ft and ~270 kts TAS that would work perfectly.
