  1. about 30 seconds before my engine seized up. the picture doesn't do justice for terrible shaking and horrible crunching noises coming from the engine...I rode it down and bailed at about 1500 meters.
  2. yes, Perfect timing, my trigger finger has been itching lately....
  3. There is a big announcement in this weeks newsletter, I won't spoil it for you, but it's a big one.
  4. Man, I am so happy to hear this. I thought the Normandy expansion to London and Paris would be cool, Wow to have a merged Channel/ Normandy map Plus an expansion is a dream come true. Man the surprises just keep coming!
  5. Hi all, I have had so much fun lately flying this mission I built, I thought I would share it here. It is a big mission, it has 32 B-17s escorted by 24 P-47s intercepted by 32 Doras and A-8s. I hope you have as much fun as I have had shooting down bombers, although I end up bailing out, or riding down a shot up airplane usually. Check your six, because when you think you are safe, you about to die. I designed this mission from the Luftwaffe point of view, but all WWII aircraft are included. Enjoy. 6. The thing is with inverted engines, the exhaust comes out below the cockpit/pilot, and are very much more quiet/not as loud in the cockpit, as say a Merlin or Allison. There is an interview with Gunther Raul where he speaks of this. He said that of all the WWII aircraft he flew, the 109 was one of the most comfortable. He said it was a very stable gun platform, as he just leaned over on the cockpit wall to see through the gunsight. He said the P-51 was the best fighter, but also the loudest, to the point of fatigue.
  7. It used to work, a year ago or so ago, I haven't used it lately though.
  8. Hi, I flew this mission I made, in 190 D-9 and Got shot down by b17s and bailed out. I was in my chute, and took a screen shot. then about that time, I was also changing views so I am not sure if it was the screenshot or the changing views that caused it, but the game locked up. this has happed to me before, not very often, maybe 3 times in the last 6 weeks or so. I have tried everything to save a track, but I was not able to. I do have the log and will post it and the mission file. by the way, I was in the airborne 190 D-9 dcs.log Luftwaffe bomber intercept.miz
  9. Hi All, wow. I think its a great Idea for a map. Like the Falklands map, the islands offer many options for mission builders. As does the coast areas ,it could be New Britain, or Bougainville, or Lea or Rabaul, or Wewac areas. for a Pacific Theater along with the Marianas map it seems a good start. just a Japanese infantry trooper would help.
  10. Sweet! that is good to hear
  11. I just got home from work, and am updating as I speak. Amazing, it is funny, I was going to do the same thing to the Mustang, so do you mean it seems to be fixed?
  12. Hi, Doing a full run-up is the fastest, easiest way to get the oil temp up, exercising the prop governor seems to make the biggest difference to me. dont exceed 30 in Manifold pressure or 2000 rpm. ground ops and taxi should be done in Lean position, to help avoid fouling spark plugs. Take off and power levels above Min. cruise should be in auto Rich. It seems to me I heard somewhere that plug fouling is modeled. As far as oil dilution goes, that should have been done just before the last engine shutdown, if the temp was expected to be lower than 40 deg. F.
  13. Thank you for your efforts, I love flying this little airplane, Best wishes and good luck, I cant wait for the announcement of the next project!
  14. Hi all, I love airshows, so I had taken some pictures of this weekends airshow with the intent to post them here, then the day after it, I found these videos so I posted them instead. The ATC and cockpit comms. are really cool. I believe this is the first time the T-birds and the Blue Angles were at Dover AFB at the same time so it was kind of a special event. There was a huge turnout and they had to close the gates there were so many people. My favorite shot is the one of the T-birds pulling vertical seen through the rudders of a Blue Angel F-18 on the ground. What is your favorite moment? I must thank Zinger Aviation Media and these videos are theirs,
  15. Sad to hear this. I did not know him other than from this forum, but was aware of his generosity and kindness. my condolences and prayers. R.I.P. and tail winds and blue skies.
  16. OK, so I tried it again and the uploader came up with a sound file it didn't like and asked if I wanted to delete it, and i said yes, and it deleted it and then finished loading and all is good now. Strange as I have no mods, I guess it saw a file it didn't like. hope the log may help. Away to map controls now
  17. Hi All, Just got home and updated fine, then loaded DCS and went to add the Apache, and it got about a third of the way through and locked up. the only way I could get it to unfreeze was to push the power button and do a reboot. I did find what I am pretty sure is the log for the event. I will try again and report back. dcs.log
  18. P-38 would work for Pacific theater also
  19. Happy Birthday Wags!
  20. Hi, yes I am getting the Viggen campaign pop up also, also appears as if in offline mode also, as it gives a days and hrs remaining as if in offline, and I was definitely online. Click ok, and all is ok.
  21. To make a long story shorter, I Got the I-16 about 1 or two years ago and and only did a few quick start missions, and it was in the hanger since. life got in the way and sim time got short, and my computer died and so I built a new one. I never did a landing and only a few air starts, as the Jug took up most of my small amount of flight time lately. So, the other day I wanted to fly slow around the Channel map, and look around, so I thought it would be a good time to try the I-16 or Yak again. I loaded a mission, and mapped the I-16. well, 2 crashes and a quick manual brush up later, I flew this mission. My first take off and landing! what a blast it was! wow it is twitchy on the ground, but wonderful to fly in the air. I never even used the landing gear before, so I was working off of what little memory I had. But any way, I got in the air (barely) then was like, OK... so now I need to raise the gear and about crashed doing it...so I managed to get the gear up... I had planned to fly around for awhile, so I took drop tanks... (never used them before) and 4 rockets for the experience, as I had never used them either. so, I'm flying down the coast from Manston, looking at all the controls, as I was really still unsure of them and what they all did. Then... oh no! what happened? … the engine started running really bad... Dammit I blew it up, but wait a minute, let me check a few things, so I dropped tanks and checked, Mags, fuel and blower and mixture. All ok. So rough on both mags and losing rpms and manifold pressure.. Drat!... Dammit man, turn around and head back to Manston... I really need to get rid of these rockets...wow its running bad, the whole airplane is lurching as it misses and turns on and off, I expected it to quit any second. Airfield in sight! I line up in an easy right turn... FINAL... oh no, I NEED TO GET THE GEAR DOWN! mind ya I never lowered the gear, or landed this plane before, I was freaking out...OK gear down... then I made the mistake of lowering the flaps and stalled about 40 ft over the runway... I dumped it on the runway, and the gear held.. right wing down and ground loop, I was down safe! Taxied away. Post flight debrief, I believe I over boosted the engine as I had no idea of power settings, and the engine failed soon after I switched the blower, or as it was too hot, then I opened coolers, then forgot to close them after the engine cooled off, so I may have over cooled it. That was a fun flight, as the unexpected problems really test one's skills and reminded me of why DCS is still my favorite sim. the track file is too big I need to cut 1.6 meg to post it, I'm working on it Edit: I finally figured out how to post this track my 3rd I16 flight sick eng.trk.lnk
  22. glad he is back, and as blunt and funny as ever!
