Is DCS worth it with just a normal hotas?

Hi and welcome. a lot of people that fly DCS don't use the expensive equipment, or rudder pedals. DCS producer Wags doesn't use rudder pedals. I used a 5 year old TM Hotas X when I started DCS 4 or five years ago, and just about 6 months ago bought a warthog. so in short no you don't need rudder pedals to fly well in DCS, and your 1600 should serve you well too. Yes! this^^, I started DCS back when the TF-51 came out. it was version 1.2. I played aces hi, and wow, the TF-51, it was so advanced, with the clickable cockpit, even with no weapons, I was hooked on day 1. Then I got the P-51, and the learning started, Flaming cliffs, Ka-50, and P-51 was it, (Su-25 and Su-25T are still a Beast) wow times have changed, Dora and 109 were in beta, then Huey, M-2000, Mi-8. and this was all single player, I had yet to try multi player... then I learned to fly Helicopters, and the MiG-21.... the world changed again. then multiplayer, and I have met many good people I would call a friend, from many different Countries and Cultures. Then Viggen and Vegas and Normandy and the whole switch from 1,2 to 1.5 and 2.0 and 2.1... I'm getting a headache just thinking of it... Then Farmer and Harrier, and I cant list them all, F-14,18, 16.... It just keeps getting better and better. We've come a long way, and there is more in front of us than behind us. My job has kept me from flying much online for the past few weeks, but I tried a couple of missions offline and the new combat AI seem much better... Edit.. how could forget A-10C.. BRRRRITTT

I am praying for a twin prop A/C in DCS...A-20, Mossie, B-25, TU-2, P-38, JU-88, Betty, I really would not care, I would buy it. That said if it was not clickable, I would not buy it/them. I have more DCS content than I will ever really fly anyway. -
"Margie II" Republic P-47D-20-RE 42-76484 flown by 1st Lt. Gerald Grace Production batches from the D-20 onward were fitted with a "universal" wing which could carry a variety of drop tanks or bombs. These batches also introduced the R-2800-59 engine with an improved ignition system. The power was the same as that of the -63, with a war emergency power output of 2300 hp. "Wild Bette" Republic P-47D-22-RE 42-26130 flown by 1st Lt. Richard Kik Production batches D-22-RE and D-23-RA, a 13' diameter paddle-bladed propeller (either a Hamilton Standard Hydromatic 24E50-65 or a Curtiss Electric C542S) was fitted to make full use of the additional power provided by water injection. Blocks D-22-RE and D-23-RA were also provided with a jettisonable cockpit canopy which was activated by the pilot pulling a ring. A bullet-proof windshield was fitted, and internal fuel capacity was increased. The "Bubbletop" is born The USAAF fitted a standard P-47D-5-RE airframe (serial number 42-8702) with a bubble canopy taken from a Hawker Typhoon. In order to accommodate the bubble canopy, the Republic design team had to cut down the rear fuselage. This conversion was redesignated XP-47K, and was tested in July 1943. This modification was immediately proven to be feasible, and was promptly introduced on both the Farmingdale and Evansville production lines. "Rough and Ready" Republic P-47D-28-RE 44-20268 flown by Capt. Bill Garry Ordinarily, the USAAF would have given such a radical modification a completely new variant letter. The USAAF chose instead to designate it simply by giving it a new production block number in the D-series. The first batches to feature this new bubble canopy were Farmingdale's P-47D-25-RE and Evansville's P-47D-26-RA. These batches also had the R-2800-59 or -63 engines, the paddle-bladed propeller, and the "universal" wing first introduced on the "razorback" P-47D-20-RE. Stronger belly shackles capable of carrying a 91.6 Imp. gall. drop tank were fitted. This tank, together with the 170.6 Imp. gall. main fuselage tank, an 83-gallon auxiliary fuel tank and two 125-gallon underwing tanks, made it possible to carry a total fuel load of 595 gallons, providing a maximum range of 1800 miles at 10,000 feet. "Lizzy" Republic P-47D-30-RE 44-20456 flown by Capt. Les Leavoy The early "bubble-canopy" Thunderbolts had suffered from some directional instability as a result of the loss of aft keel area. From the P-47D-30-RE production lots onward, a dorsal fin was fitted just ahead of the rudder. This innovation successfully restored the stability. The high diving speeds of which the Thunderbolt was capable pushed the aircraft into the edge of compressibility, and new blunt-nosed ailerons were fitted to improve controllability at these high speeds. In order to help in dive recovery at these high speeds, an electrically-operated dive recovery flap was fitted on the undersurfaces of each wing. Republic Farmingdale produced a total of 2547 bubbletop P-47D's and Evansville produced 4632. Doesn't A-10C feel more flight capable in real life?

In all reality, there is nothing super secretive about a straight wing monoplane with twin jet engines, the physics are well known. what amazes me is that us lucky few in DCS has some of the sensors and weapons and aircraft that we do in DCS , so I feel lucky. After all DCS has many other Irons In the Fire, and the contracts must be a tricky endeavor to negotiate, so, yea someone who has flown a A-10 may see a discrepancy or two, but on the other hand, maybe he or she should.... -

check your audio settings, and make sure there are no sound mods. I flew the pony yesterday and could definitely hear hits, and different for MG and cannons. world sound and in cockpit make a big difference.

Flickering lights are a sign of a dead battery. Make sure the generator is turned on.

I tried giving it some deadzone.It helped, but not sure it is quite what I want. I just bought my Warthog about a month ago, and I am still learning and setting it up. I am considering moving it to the thumb hat it has a press function also.

Hi all, I was just on the server and had a nice little flight with a few mustangs. I apologize, as my team speak was not on. I did not have much time at that moment, and was surprised to see a wingman on my right wing, Well done! then he put a few holes in my right wing, and we started a little "mock" dogfight. I got to get my team speak working on Burning Skies again.... I am going through the new controller blues.... my plane is on the field, but I have to eat dinner, I hope to be back. Edit: Campbell, I believe that may have been me... my wing was still there, but had many holes

Hi, The KdO 40 is a fire director/radar range finder. It gives accurate data to a battery of 88s, and greatly increases their effectiveness. I made a template of 4, 6, and 8 gun batteries with a KdO in the center... works very well. Also to see the range benefit, place an 88 on the map alone, and look at the detection and firing range circles in the f10 map, then add a Kdo near it, it is a substantial increase. also it is only certain 88s that are able to be used with it, I believe it is 88-36 and/ or 88-38, it will tell which ones will work with it in the encyclopedia. -

That sounds promising (not promised), Man I am psyched for the jug!!! Yes there is a company in New Zealand, I believe ,that rebuilt a combat veteran Mossie, and in doing that, having made the necessary wing and fuselage jigs, now are building new build mossies, using the original plans. I saw a very interesting post, and there are many you tube videos of them. -

So I flew the anti-shipping mission on the PG map. I zoomed in on the gunsight, I was in my dive to hit one of the ships and started firing my MG-131 and cannons, and gave a good 2 second burst and could see the heat waves from the hot gun barrels in the cowling. It was really freeking awesome! Well done all!:beer:

Hi, And welcome! I would say that if you can do all the training missions for the SU25-T, now is the time for either multiplayer or learning the mission editor. or join a squad. the A-10 is an awesome aircraft, however the systems are somewhat complicated. there are several excellent campaigns for it too

I really see no issue Either, its kind of just looking over the nose if the spit also, it gets in the way too, ... the lower to the cowling that the crosshair is, the more it makes it easer to pull lead with a fixed sight, the guns are aimed to the crosshairs, not the pilots line of sight.

Every body don't forget the A model is shorter than the D model( I am not sure at the moment how much) it a totally different aircraft...Kurt added about 2-1/2 feet in the rear of the fuselage to make up for the longer Jumo engine to try to maintain center of gravity, and the flight quality of the A model. It is the same airplane, but it is really totally different.
