Does the release of Normandy 2 make the Channel map redundant?
Andy1966 replied to imacken's topic in DCS: The Channel
I am silently hoping that possibly ED will do something similar with the Channel map that Urga did with Normandy, possibly extended north and east. and I am dreaming now, then merged with Normandy. It sure seems strange that Urga didn't bother with the parts of England that are hi detail in the channel map, i.e. Manston and the surrounding area. A stepping stone maybe, but not redundant. -
Hi, and yes well said Dragon. The BFM is to put yourself in a position to be able to pull the lead to shoot. Every situation is different, so you have to decide: am I going for a lead pursuit, or a lag pursuit? and how is the easiest way to get in phase with him to get an angle to shoot? its all about angles.

Hi All, I finally figured it out. it was the motion blur. no blurring and wow I can definitely tell a difference. frames saw a modest improvement (im2D) and everything just seems much more "fluid" and smooth. first MT solved-1.trk first MT solved.trk

Hi All, you may want to try doing a slow repair. I have seen quite a few people saying they had a drop in perf. and a slow repair fixed it.

Hi, Just tried the multi threading for the first time. I had mixed results. framerate is good until I turn my head. no other obvious problems. I enclosed a track that shows the issue. the edges of my view are blurred. Here are some tracks: first MT in Anton-2.trk first MT in Anton-3 w-FR.trk first MT in Anton-1.trk I tried a slow repair, and cleared the fxo and metadata folders, it did not help. by the way, in regards to the many crash reports I have sent in the last week or two, the game has started fine today 4 times or more

Hello, and Welcome to the asylum! I won't recommend any purchase to you, as your tastes are surely different than mine. The free trial period is a wonderful way to test fly modules and find a module you like. Other than that, the free aircraft are a good place to start. The SU-25T is represenitive of the flaming cliffs aircraft. the TF-51 has a clickable cockpit and has all systems modeled, but has no weapons. other than that, pick one you like and dive in. the 50% off your first purchase is another thing. don't waste the discount on FC3

Hi, yes that sounds about right, wind speed and direction, relative to your heading, and the barometric pressure and air density have a part in it too. 2% per thousand feet will get you in the ballpark.

Water/Methanol how long should it last?
Andy1966 replied to motoadve's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Well said. in the end, engine temps are the limiting factor, there are many variables, i.e. speed, alt, engine condition, and the hope to use the aircraft again. there is much less risk of engine damage at 20000 ft in a tail chase, as opposed to a dog fight at 1500 ft . -

Hi, Interesting question. It made me go back and look at my logbook.. I started flying DCS Back when 1.2 went to 1.5.... so there were only the A-10C, Ka-50. MiG-21. Flaming Cliffs 3, P-51, Mi-8 and Huey and either the 109 or the dora I can't remember which one was first. First I just flew the TF-51 and the SU-25T. I had more time in the -25T than the Mustang (I had a lot of time in he P-51 in other sims) and that's what started my fascination with Russian aircraft. Then having seen the A-10 fly over my house at 250 Ft. a thousand times, I purchased FC3. I flew only the A-10A and F-15 at first. (I got my MOH in the F-15, I still remember that mission, wow, what a mission, 6 kills and landed). then dabbled with the SU-27 some. Then I got my 109. That airplane made a 45 year old man run home at lunchtime just to do touch and gos in a cartoon 109 for 20 minutes, lol. At this point, I was hooked, it was easy to keep up because there were only so many aircraft and helicopters, and I flew them all. Then I got my A-10C. and Ka-50...., but this thread is about airplanes you don't fly so...when i purchase a module, the first thing I do is a cold start, and see if I could do a cold start and take off out of the box, while mapping and clearing up the control settings, so that at least I can jump in and do a cold or auto start and take off . (usually not). There were some I flew a lot that that changed so often I had to move on. I have not flown more than 5 or 6 different planes or choppers this past year or two, as Time and commitments got in the way a lot in the last few years, but I have more spare time now, so I have flown most of my aircraft and helicopters in the last 6 months or so. I go through cycles ...props, helios, jets, props helios, jets. it may take me a year or two for the cycle to come back around, but yes I do fly all my modules

TIP STALLS And FLIGHT MODEL ISSUES
Andy1966 replied to MLGSwagPilot's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Hi, some times DCS will map multiple controllers to a single function, therefore, it is a good idea to remove any duplicates because you can move a switch or control and not even know you dtd it. -
TIP STALLS And FLIGHT MODEL ISSUES
Andy1966 replied to MLGSwagPilot's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Hi, Welcome to DCS, If you are having trouble in turns, first check a few things. I am not sure which P-51 you are flying, the TF-51 or the P-51 with weapons, so make sure to check the control settings page that it is set to "P-51 real" then set about a 30 curve on the pitch and roll axis. you can change them again easily. then be sure to delete any multiple mappings, DCS has a habit of mapping several things to one map item, so that can be a problem to. also check that take off assist and rudder assist are off. I don't know how experienced you are, and it really doesn't really matter that much, they seem to fight against your inputs and create more problems than they fix. once you have that all set, try a light Mustang, about 30-40% fuel, and just fly and get the feel. be easy on the stick, it really responds to slight inputs, so be gentle. then practice coordinated turns keeping the plane level, ball centered, constant speed and altitude. The thing about DCS is , Trust me, The FM is designed and approved by actual P-51 pilots, and is the best P-51 sim out there, is it perfect? no. But it is still the closest to the real thing. I hope this helps, and let us know how you make out -

Well said Rob, I was also wondering about were the temp sender/sensor is located. It seems to me it is in the inlet side of the coolant pump. It seems to me I read that in a manual some where, but I could be mistaken. I will go try to find it. I made a few flights to 20000 ft or so and the temp seemed to only fall to 60 or so, and then stop dropping. I do distinctly remember a note that it may be necessary to increase power temporarily to maintain a safe coolant temp. like Yo-Yo said, the biggest danger should be fouled sparkplugs, barring any cooling system malfunction. Edit: I went and looked at the DCS manual and the thermometer is in the outlet of the header tank, before the thermostatic valve. I will go check the real maintenance manual now.

Glad we could help. feel free always, to ask any questions!

Hi, can you post us a track or video, it would help us help you. first I would say, check for double bindings on your controls. DCS has a habit of double binding controls for you by default. then make sure the take off assist is off (in special settings tab) and make sure auto rudder is off also

Hi All, I looked for a screenshot/video thread, but didn't see one, so I figured I would start one. Mods, if this is the wrong place for this, please put it in the correct place, Thanks.

Hi All, After a while, I have started making missions again. Here are two missions I would like to share, from the Luftwaffe point of view mostly, you are with a group of friendly's so just follow them, and practice your formation flying too. just maintain course, and be sure to tell your flight to engage bandits, when they get close enough (it's about 50 miles from spawn to first contact) so there is time to get comfortable. like combat though it gets hot very fast. If there is enough interest there are more where these came from. I forgot to say that these missions are on the Channel map and use the WWII assets pack. Luftwaffe bomber intercept.miz P-47s vs A-8s 11-24022.miz

Hi when you go to mission editor, click on ground units, (the little tank icon to the left of the screen), then click on unit type to the right of the screen, and they should be there in a dropdown menu. if they are still not showing up, you may have to set the date to before 1945 in the time and date area that is in the weather and time tab. Hope this helps let us know how you make out.

Hi All, I ran home at lunch time, and started the 2.8 update and went back to work, to get a leg up for when I got back home. I really was not sure what to expect. The changelog said to basically not expect any AI behavior change with this up date (for WW2). Well, I must say, well done to all of ED. There must have been an unforeseen change to the WW2 AI, as I flew this mission when I got home and was surprised at everything. The new clouds are wonderful (I don't have VR yet). The Ai did act different, in a good way. I flew an intercept in a flight of Doras, and to my surprise, about 4 passes and 2 bomber kills, my wingmen were all still there! That had never happened before, in this mission, I always lost them.. Also the Graphics are much better, it seems to me. There are too many little differences I noticed, to list here. And I haven't even flown any of the jets or helicopters yet. And OMG...Thank You for the compass rose in the F-10 map!!!!
