I think a lot would actually improve if we could ditch the 'all or nothing' of it and record shorter tracks on demand. That would probably give us a second of stuttering because the track would need to write down all the initial positions and conditions, but a track of five minutes usually works okay and would be easier to handle. But then, maybe that isn't so easy either.

I'm not sure if I would like that all the time for fear of seriously cluttering up my map, but I would certainly welcome to have a few more options for these kinds of things.

After excitedly reviving a thread after seven years you will also be elated to learn that Magnitude3 has been working on this for a considerable amount of time.

That would indeed be useful to have for more modules. It comes in handy for a lot of reasons, really, for example AAR training without ending up with short ranges, or managing take-off weight for certain situations.

Uhm, there is good old-fashioned in-game chat as a start? If you keep frequenting the same servers at similar times you will be bumping into the same people sooner or later.

Seeing how your last computer was one fiery hot machine I hope it doesn't...

Well, that is actually one half of the truth. The other half is that the Soviets had this fire-retardant they wanted to put in the cockpits for obvious reasons and it just kinda ended up being that kinda colour. You will find that the actual shades of the turquoise colour differs quite a lot between airframes from the rich paint seen in this video to the much paler shade we got in the DCS MiG-21 to virtually grey with just a hint of green. That often has to do with supply of the material and which factory made it; if it was entirely about wanting a specific colour there would probably have been stricter guidelines about it, seeing how 'regular colour' wasn't scarce and - being how its only purpose would have been to be a specific colour - there would have been more complaints about not matching it.

On the plus side: hugely realistic damage model there

What Type of Bombs and how many can sink a boat in DCS
Kang replied to ruddy122's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Your mileage depends slightly (read: quite a lot) on the exact type of ship you want to destroy. The Tarantul class corvettes are fragile enough to be done with a single Harpoon, a heavy-warhead Maverick or a 1000lbs bomb hitting it well. -
It works with mark points to quick-slew your seekers, but you still need to get positive lock between your shots.

I wasn't ware of the additional wildlife on the South Atlantic. But... are they 'real'? I mean, are they just animated props that are technically terrain or do they have any sort of agency? Are they moving around on their own, giving the theoretical option of a collision?
-
Generally speaking, beyond the birdstrike probability slider, the only wildlife in DCS is cows places as part of the mission. Hardly requires much additional measures of control.

Feature Request: Type Exclude-Filter for User Files (Skins!)
Kang replied to Hiob's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Skins have just been Hiob's example, too. It's just a little quality-of-life thing. Of course one could filter by all the other categories one after the other, but it could be more convenient. Plus, Hiob said, it's hardly an exotic thing to do. Furthermore, I doubt the 'main DCS team' would divert much for it, as this is entirely website stuff. -
Feature Request: Type Exclude-Filter for User Files (Skins!)
Kang replied to Hiob's topic in DCS Core Wish List
This would be really useful. -
Oh, that's looking nice. Also great to get an update again!

Just a quick question: Is 'update day' moved back to Fridays permanently again? Or have there just been a couple minor delays that pushed it there for the past three or so updates? (Before anybody starts it: yes, please do your updates whenever you feel like it, it's just that I liked the Wednesday scheduling better)

Yes, once they fired a full salvo they need to be re-armed from a truck. If they don't fire at all, check that your target is within parameters (some of the rocket artillery units have sizable minimum ranges).
-
If you don't need to use the cap, in other words, if you have an IR-LED-array clipped to your headset, for example, you have the advantage of gaining a bit of field of view on the ol' TrackIR. You could then just put it in front of your projector, set atop (or if you are fancy: somewhere within) your instruments, disguised like a HUD camera.

Some people happen to be awful, really.
-
Well... there is not really a proper IADS to start with. It is possible to get strike flights to fly in 'the shadows' but they mostly need to be set up manually for it, their AI reaction to threat, when left alone, is often not the best.

Frankly: As far as I see it there is 'Open Beta', the current version with a few bugs, and then there is 'Stable', a slightly older version with a chance of having slightly fewer bugs. I generally choose to use the 'More Beta' version because it at least has all the content.

Just because someone pointed this out to me today, I am sharing here: Google Maps 32°04'02N 64°51'E

One of the reasons you are unlikely to find 'the ultimate answer' to this question somewhere is that a lot of it depends on your personal setup. How big is your screen? How far away from it are you sitting, when in a reasonably neutral position? By measuring the angle between the left and right edge of your screen from where you sit, you can set this up to look like 1:1 scale. The problem with that is, that it will be like looking at the world through a tank window all the time, so most people prefer a slightly wider FOV.

A Harrier can obviously park in reverse. A Hornet can actually taxi and turn around in the usual Caucasus shelters.

I feel that is mostly a request for those who run servers to at least put a hint towards such in the descriptions of the missions. Is there even a generalised system of determining mission duration? I seem to see most servers running their own scripts to switch missions or reset servers at set times or when certain 'victory conditions' are met.
