Two funny start up items and a bad joke on take off
Kang replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Bugs and Problems
I think what OP meant was that the tutorial just doesn't clearly indicate which settings are the actual correct ones. You could probably find out quickly by starting a quick mission in a hot-start aircraft and looking at it - I'd assume it is all set up for flight then. Yet the issue remains, if setting these things up is part of the tutorial the tutorial should stop highlighting once it's right, else there is not much point to it. -
Would be a good improvement, but quite frankly I think the ground forces in general (and CA module specifically) has much bigger construction sites going than that.

Indeed, the SA-6 launcher itself has no radar at all and thus can neither fire nor show up to the HARM, you need to place the Kub radar vehicle in the same group. The SA-15 has a much shorter range. Relatedly the AI in DCS has a bit of a sixth sense as to not even use their search radar unless you are reasonably close to its detection range, so that's why the SA-15 doesn't show up quickly.

You can, but just like with cargo carrying helicopters you need to specifically set up a 'well done!'-message for this to have any effect. For a future dynamic campaign it would be most interesting to have actually working supply chains, as in the inventories get adjusted when cargo carrying vehicles actually arrive. That would make it possible to disrupt enemy supply lines properly. Up to now any such plan requires quite a bit of manual scripting.

It might be worth noting that 'Arabic' isn't exactly one monolithic language either, it has many 'flavours', as in dialects and accents, which is possibly one of the reasons these things get so chaotic. Someone from, say, Tunisia pronounces things differently from someone from Syria, for example.

POLL - So, how is the new integrated voice chat coming along?
Kang replied to Rhinozherous's topic in Multiplayer
I know servers that are using it, although most also offer other means alongside it. It works alright, pretty much. One major issue I have is that upon connecting (or someone else connecting) it loves to mess with all of the audio volumes and there seems to be no way of turning that off, so all of a sudden the game itself becomes super quiet for the tradeoff of hearing somebody breath. Other than that technical bug it's okay. Perhaps it is a case of 'too little, too late', though. Most online communities have set up their SRS servers or their teamspeaks or their discords or whatnot and while it works okay it just doesn't offer anything 'better' for people to make the switch in significant numbers. -
It'll work marvellously.

The R-27ET is a good opportunity to remember you have an EO system that works surprisingly well.

Technically we got something close to that in the shape of Air Boss etc from Supercarrier already. Of course someone is going to make a point of doing stupid things with it and there will be some sort of backlash around it, but overall I'd say it'd be a good idea. Just perhaps some other models as place-able entities would be higher priority for me, such as air crew.

The R-27 is quite a capable missile and has the longest reach of all missiles available to you, the R-27ER actually out-ranges the AIM-120C. Its only drawback is that it doesn't have an active seeker. For that the R-77 is your only choice.

Yea, also adding a little bit of advice: do check on the trimmer method selected in the options. Mine was set to 'instant' by default which is quite the change from the 'center' I always used for the Huey. Little things, a little bit of practice. As I said in the original post: things already got better after an hour or so trying around.

'Are tanks deadly accurate against helicopters?' Short answer: yes, it's the ol' All-Seeing-Eye of the AI at work. Most of them you can out-range in both the AH-64 and the Ka-50, which makes them blissfully unaware of you entirely. If you can't, avoid hovering - moving around, even with little lateral motion greatly reduces their hit chances.

This is a major issue, there are two RSBN systems in operation in DCS, so getting this to work for both of them would be troublesome for sure.

Is it possible to to have more than one JTAC?
Kang replied to grim_reaper68's topic in Mission Editor
Have you tried using a different unit? If I'm not mistaken it at least used to be that not every ground unit was capable of being JTAC, especially the infantry. Try, for example, a scout car (a HMMWV, a BRDM, something like that). -
Slowly getting onto the bandwagon of the AH-64 I noted that when trying to hover the Apache has a rather 'squirrely' tendency do try and get away from me, something I last experienced when I was trying out the Gazelle. Other pilots quickly pointed me towards Wags' introductory video of getting airborne and hovering. Am I the only one who got the sensation that that video is basically ten minutes of 'fly it like a helicopter! Just git gud!'? (I think it is true, though, trying it a few times I can feel it getting easier and less stressful already. Still kinda funny.)

It is somewhat hilarious when the server is rather full and a quick look into the list has everyone in the same type.

Actually a lot of airpower in the 80s was still moustache-powered all over the world.

reported Roland acquisition time is way too long
Kang replied to Rissala's topic in Bugs and Problems
Now, I have no idea what the actual reaction time of a Roland is supposed to be, but I'd like to point out that the 'delay' here isn't just the radar acquisition itself but the overall launch preparation which includes acquisition, determining firing solution, launch calculation and possibly preparing the missile. -
It's close to impossible to say like that. I mean, what does constitute a player for your count anyways? Anybody who ever installed DCS? Anybody who owns a module? Anybody actively playing on a regular basis?

Do you people even remember the amazing hype for the CEII?
