  1. -4 series Corsair beats the hell out of the F6F-5 in every regard save turn radius, and as far as most pilots were concerned back then turn radius was last on the list of advantages a Naval fighter must have to be a great fighter. The Hellcat was quite slow compared to the other "modern" US Fighters, but since it mainly had to fight Zero fighters or plug slow torp bombers and fixed gear dive bombers that wasn't a huge issue. Also, the awesome kill ratio enjoyed by the Hellcat is kinda skewed - this number reflects what it did mostly vs Zero fighters; I recently read that it only enjoyed a 3:1 against it's contemporary, the Raiden, and when flown by pilots of equal ability it was pretty much a match.
  2. "To our fallen companions whose bones rest on the bottom of the sea in the Solomon Islands, cut down in the bloom of youth, denied the pleasures of life, which by chance, the rest of us have enjoyed. To Gregory Boyington, the courageous, charismatic leader of our days of glory. To Frank Walton, who from our early days has not only been our Boswell, our biographer, in creating the Black Sheep legend, but by his own life has been friend, inspiration and role model to all. To Jim Reames our compassionate squadron doctor, whose medical treatment, Lejon brandy and cheerful good humor helped each of us to bear the stress of combat when death was a frequent visitor to our squadron. To our wives and ladies without whom life would have been a fruitless, cheerless existence without meaning. To each of us, once a proud, brave brotherhood in arms, today we are bound by our own actions in the Black Sheep legend as friends forever. Last to our beloved Marine Corps. We all knew when we put on the forest green uniform that it would ask us to put our lives at risk, which it did, and it would give us only pride and self respect, which it has." — Bolt's toast at the VMF-214 50-year reunion in 1993.
  3. Will it have the fabled roll rate that we never see in any other "sims"? I always read about how fantastic the roll rate was when I read book like "Hellhawks" and such, but never see it in games.

[quote= Though they may select the P-40 or even P-39 first to get a single engine Allison engine aircraft in game first, getting a good solid model of that powerplant working before pushing on to the complexity of the P-38 and it's turbo and intercooler systems. I think both of these would be poor engines to follow examples of, neither of the Allisons in these planes were turbocharged.....
  7. The Huey doesn't have a single audio alarm except low rotor rpm. As for the rwr, uh, all of the other modules seemed to have solved their issues. It took less than a week for HB to solve their black wings problem, and ED was nice enough to even push a patch to resolve it for the community. Hate to be the bad guy here, but it's been MONTHS since these issues showed up on Gazelle, and with how fast the other revs are correcting stuff that ED breaks it seems more like you guys are either overwhelmed or just don't care to resolve them. Furthermore, the module seems to be going backwards? Every few months a patch breaks something else on Gazelle it seems. First multiplayer, then camera, now sounds. I can get behind Leon's request of a real answer for "when?". ~Rob
  8. I would like to submit also that even though the Jug wasn't the best fighter in terms of climb, acceleration, etc, that when flown right by experienced pilots vs a poorly trained Jerry it was still devastating. Reference the Hell Hawks' record against German fighters, and many times they even started at a disadvantage since the Hall Hawks were a purpose built ground and pound strike unit.
  9. Just following up here, recently was wondering this same question and got excited when I saw this thread....then saw there were no answers. Can anyone weigh in here? ~Rob
  10. Got my shirts, thank you so much!!!
  11. Why not start your own thread instead if hijacking someone else's to use as a platform for your unit? ~Rob
  12. IL2 1946? I still maintain a version of it on my rig and fly twice a week with friends, have been since 2003! Incredible game, and the modded Corsairs are top notch!!!
  13. Works beautifully, even with custom skins, thank you so much!! ~Rob
  14. Works beautifully, even with custom skins! thank you so much for the hotfix! ~Rob
  15. On a funny note, I've noticed that even though I get credit for our kills when flying with my regular RIO I also get credit for my RIO when we get shot down, losing two airframes instead of one. We call it evensies :-)
  16. I have heard USN planes are skimpy on brakes, figured that statement was accurate since they really don't need them the same way that a USAF striker might. Good to know that it might not be true. This has been a very interesting discussion, thank you! ~Rob
  17. I used to wobble quite a bit, then I bought pedals that worked better for helicopter type flying and it cleaned up my Huey flying nicely!
  18. There's one with a cockpit in the mods section. Looks pretty neat!
  19. Thought so. Thanks Sub!
  20. I thought there was one available of the bottom pic above?
  21. I'm not expecting too much out of the system - if I l ask Jester lock up a single aircraft at 20nm in STT out over the water, level altitude from me and my bandit is not trying to notch me then there is a reasonable expectation for Jester to be able to maintain a lock.
  22. What's that, like 8g's?
  23. Aye aye buddy!! ~Rob
  24. Are there links to these Strut? I have been all over ED user files section pining to grab them!! ~Rob
