  1. zooming in is reducing fov... how does reducing fov give you a human level of fov? you would need to zoom out for that.. so this does not make sense. you have to move your head and scan to make up for the lack of FOV in VR..
  2. I was going to buy a ultra wide screen monitor three years ago. but I bought a cv 1 instead. not flown in 2d since. I do enjoy lying on my couch and watching 4k youtube video of DCS though. i call it training :)
  3. its mounted on the underside of the collective. like the trigger on your hotas. which you use with your first finger. http://www.metalcraftbyblair.com/bmz_cache/e/e6fdb1762ea682667708f221046f5d18.image.350x302.jpg you can see it in the side view.
  4. the problem with the reverb is that it has to many layers of software between the headset and the game. its not a hardware layer problem. its a software layer problem. hp software talking to windows mixed reality, talking to steam VR, talking to the game. its why i avoid WMR. too much software overhead. and as VR is all about latency. that is way to much software latency. throwing faster hardware at the problem is a brute force approach. which is not guaranteed to fix the problem and apparently does not. there is no brute with enough force on the market.
  5. going from a 22nm 4790 to a 14nm 9900k will give you about 20% increase in single thread performance. just from the shrink in size. that will be noticeable. its not all about multiple cores. but the death of moores law does mean multiple cores are the only way to see speed improvements in the future. everybody is struggling to go smaller than 10nm. the limits of silicon are just over the horizon. and quantum computers don't exist yet. the DDR 4 RAM, nvme ssd and pci-3.0 will all reduce latency. which is especially important in VR. your RIFT s will like it. as its not a complete system hog like the reverb or index. going from a 7700k to a 9900k would be a waste of money. the new ryzan are good, but not as good at single core speed. but not by much. if you have over 64 threads they are 50% faster than the 9900k... which does not help at all with DCS. so you will see a definite improvement. if you make the change. ive been thinking about it myself. I'm just getting lazy in my old age.
  6. I have watched a10 shoot up ground targets at RAF donna nook, plenty of times. back in the cold war. and I can say that watching a10 shoot up ground targets in dcs from a similar position is remarkably similar. good enough for army work.. I probably still have a 30mm spent brass case somewhere in the attic. they used to get washed off the range by high tide so you could get them without trespassing. although playing with spent munitions is definitely a bad idea..
  7. as the load is slung from the centre of gravity. either side provides the same view. the left hand seat is prefered because you are then leaning over the collective instead of away from it, when leaning out and looking down, which gives you tighter control. its one of those "9 out of 10 pilots prefer" things.. which means not everyone does it.
  8. you need to set the gyro compass to the magnetic heading when you start the huey. when you hot start the gyro compass is set for you. use the knob below the gyro compass to set it. lots of mission designers start you facing north so you don't need to move the gyro much. a gyro compass will always use straight ahead as north, when you first turn it on. you need to then set it to magnetic north as part of your start up procedure.
  9. he probably means the sling load view. where you put your head out the window and can look down at the load. its mapped to a button in the mi-8 its pretty much useless in VR though. too unnatural.
  10. to stop a load from swinging you need to use the collective. when the load is at the top of the swing decrease collective slightly. when the load is under you increase collective again. doing this a few times and the swinging will reduce. listen to your engineer and feel for the swing in the cyclic. the max weight for the sling hook is 4000lb.
  11. you have to be special to fly the huey. fixed wing pilots would probably swap special for insane.. and yes learning to fly the huey may induce its own special brand of psychosis. called rotor head. and once you have rotor head you are in fact insane. and will say insane things like "the huey is the best module in DCS" The Huey IS the best module in DCS :) are you mad enough to master it? mad does not imply stupid.. you need to be systematic and comprehensive about your learning. and most of that falls on you. the only way to have proper hand holding is with multicrew.

it only changed with the f-16 roll out beta. for 2 1/2 years I didn't need to move the head in VR. the only helicopter I needed to move the head in was the gazelle. but I fixed that by using the correct IPD in game. the centre head key now puts my head two clicks forward on the mouse when I fly the huey or the mi-8. but the centre head key puts my head in the right place in tracks. so its odd. I need to test more modules. the only mod I have is scullz huey sound mod.
  13. for me I use the second throttle because when its at max position it gives me a bump stop to let me know how far I am from maximum with the collective. I can feel it with the heel of my hand. saves me having to check the instruments so much. especially EGT. I have the axis reversed so pull is up and push is down. plus using the slider can cause issues in the gazelle, where it never goes 100%
  14. if you keep this up, the much maligned polychop will be the only company with a fully DCS 2.5 compatible helicopter. the race is on between you and the ka-50 update.. may the best developer win :)
  15. I just flew the mission fine using no more power than cruise. as you are light carrying documents. did you exceed the limits on the engine power indicator? if you pull a lot more power than take off power, then you do get generator failures. that I did test at the end. so it sounds like you are exceeding the power settings and burning out your engines. as altitude increases the power available decreases. why the three chevron on the engine power indicator move. so you have less power at camp 3 than you did at camp 2. and then you have the climb over the mountains. try to keep your collective power in line with the bottom chevron. which is cruise. with unlimited time. the middle chevron is max continuous and has a 30 minute limit. the top one is take off and has a 5 minute max. going above take off is prohibited but probably what you are doing to get the generators to fail. western helicopter use torque for the same thing. but the engine power indicator also takes into account EGT. so you don't have to glance between it and the EGT to see if you are overworking the engines. its easier to use. anyway the engine power indicator tells you how much collective you can pull. and for how long before you fall out the sky :) also remember the de icing system and the particle filters both effect the power available on the engine power indicator. so turn off de icing when you land or descend away from the condition. don't have it on when you take off. they seem to have added more icing events since the last time I flew this mission. and a landing pad at camp 2 (the farm). i had to almost land in the river last time, which the co pilot expressly told me not to do :)

jef32 did you ever figure out this problem? I still have it and I also have it in the mi-8. if I play back the track then my head starts in the right place and then goes back into the seat when I role the mouse back 2 clicks (part of the track). does anyone know if there is a lua I can delete and then replace with a repair? because my head starts in the right place in the track (in VR), I don't think its the oculus software.
  17. in the book chickenhawk the company pilot instructor is ridiculed because he tried to stop the spinning rotors with a tie down, and instead he himself got swung around the helicopter. it was a very noobish thing for the most senior pilot to do. in front of everyone.. so I bet he wished the huey had a rotor brake :)
  18. I'm still cross with ED for buying belsimtek and then making them work on the f/a-18 and f-16, putting their mi-24 on the back burner.. so yes polychop I will buy the kiowa because its a helicopter... the first new helicopter in far to many years..
  19. 5 shots is not really statistically relevant. DCS needs the MMO tools to record the results of thousands of shots. to tune this right. use the power of data mining.. its what free servers are for..
  20. wind is unpredictable.. if you take off heavy with wind and the wind dies. you will be overweight and crash when you land. so you plan vehicle weight on worst case scenario, which is no wind. yes you need to be aware of the effects of wind on translational lift. but you dont plan for it because of its unpredictability in real life.

yep same here. the head position has changed and is more forward. can we get it changed back so my head position is back over the shoulders of the pilot body? the height is correct.
  22. not a bad little stream. even with the deleted audio due to copyright. the secret to helicopter gunnery is all about keeping the pedals in trim. getting control of the left and right swing when you fire also greatly reduces the up and down swing. and the huey, all of a sudden, becomes a really stable gun platform that can fire all day. this applies also to the other helicopters. but to a lesser degree because their weapons on pylons are further outside the COG. so cause more swing. or the cannon on the ka-50 mounted to the side. the gazelle should have more swing when it fires... it being so light and side mounted. but their has been enough said about the gazelle FM. :) just my Sunday, with a hangover, input :)
  23. its okay once you get past the deltas and onto the torrent
  24. does it say they have fixed track replays? one of the oldest tickets in the helpdesk queue finally cleared. we should have a party.
  25. DCS has DCS Modern Air Combat coming soon. think of it as FC4. I assume all of this will be fixed with new models and textures at 2.5 standards.
