  1. I'm one of those guys that has to buy every module the moment it goes on pre-sale, but I'm rapidly finding that (unsurprisingly) I can't stay current on more than a couple at a time. At the moment, in fact, the only module that I'm totally comfortable with is the Ka-50. Beyond that, I could probably get up to speed again pretty quickly with the UH-1, Mi-8 and Su-27, but I definitely couldn't claim that I could just jump into one of them and go. So what about you guys? How many aircraft are you really good at and which ones are they?
  2. This has already been discussed and answered in this thread. Take a look at the very first frame of the video. ;) Pre-ordered. (Even though I've had my fingers burned with the Hawk and the CC-101 and I have no real interested in AA platforms. I guess I'm just a DCS completionist).
  3. There's been an AI Mig-23/27 in the sim forever.
  4. Did the manual ever get updated? Just curious as I'm starting to dip my toe back into the world of Mi-8.
  5. Hey guys, I have an almost brand new MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr for sale. I'm advertising it here because I'd like it to go to a DCS fan so they can get the best out of 1.5 and Nevada. :) http://www.ncix.com/detail/msi-geforce-gtx-970-twinfrozr-2a-102245.htm It cost me $515 CDN when I bought it about a month and a half ago, but I'm offering it for $300 (including shipping within Canada). Reason for sale - I've just switched to a very high def widescreen monitor (3440x1440) and need a little extra power. The 970 absolutely kicks ass at 1920x1200, though. Super easy overclocking, too, if that's your thing. PM me if you're interested. (NOTE - I'm only interested in shipping within Canada, just to keep things easy)
  6. This is a great question that should be posted to the next Q&A thread. I'd love to think that all of the playable birds would eventually be updated to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the new engine. Starting with the Ka-50, of course... ;)
  7. FWIW, I've just come back to the shark after a long time away. Didn't take me long to remember why it's my favourite ride in DCS. :D I like to think I was pretty good with it, but it still took me a good few flights to get back to the point where my trim-management feels smooth and intuitive. In fact, I found it a little frustrating at first. My technique is pretty much this (using a TM Warthog)with Central Trimmer Mode ON andRudder Centering OFF. HOLD DOWN the TRIM button before you start moving the cyclic. Point the helicopter in the desired direction. Hold the stick steady for half a second or so. (Mostly so I know the aircraft is totally "settled") RELEASE the TRIM button but KEEP the cyclic where it is. Wait for half a second or so. RELEASE the cyclic to centre. Do this EVERY time, no matter how small a correction you're planning to perform. This gets me perfectly smooth and accurate flying. The reason for the HOLD -> MOVE -> RELEASE method is so that you're not fighting the auto-stabilisation channels. They typically have ~20% control authority, which means you need to "push past them" to get the aircraft to respond. That always results in movements that look and feel pretty horrible. Holding the TRIM button keeps the auto-stabilisation modes engaged, but effectively tells them "I know what I'm doing. Don't fight me on this!" :) Yurgon's note about control "locking" is valid. This does occasionally happen to me, but it's never resulted in disaster. I tend to find the best solution is so quick movement of the cyclic around the centre point BEFORE holding the trim button. This allows you to "free" the stick without accidentally causing unwanted movement. You'll know it's freed up because you'll get a little bit of movement, but very minimal because of the auto-stabilisation modes. Hope that helps.
  8. Love it! I'd be all over that module! :D
  9. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=146968 Start speculating... now! :D
  10. This thread makes me realise how absurdly lucky I am. My wife (of 20 years) looks amazing, doesn't spend much at all, makes no real demands of me, likes chilling out as opposed to arguing, hits the gym every day, hates the idea of kids, cooks incredible food, loves video games, loves football and keeps trying to encourage me to spend more money on my flight simming hobby. :D Her friends and my family all think I'm spoiled to the core. They're probably right. :D
  11. Actually, I'm suffering the exact same very noticeable stutter with a single GTX 970. I thought I was going mad and it must have always been there, but apparently not. Glad to know I'm not going insane...
  12. Wait! I've got it! The new single executable with the game engine and GUI/map working in sync. Maybe...
  13. Hmm... things that people ask about on a regular basis that haven't been addressed in this thread yet. DCS level ASM upgrade to F-15C DCS level ASM upgrade to Su-27 6DoF cockpit and PFM for Mig-29 PFM and ASM for the Su-33 Announcement of DCS: F-16C Announcement of DCS: AH-64D DCS: WII status update and Normandy map Dynamic campaign Hello Kitty livery for the A-10C Am I getting close? :D
  14. Very cool. :)
  15. Short, sweet and 100% correct.
  16. Yes and no. Zoom only "solves" the issue of seeing things at distance by introducing another issue in the form of drastically reduced FOV. The ideal solution is one that allows for a roughly real world FOV and a roughly real world ability to spot objects at distance, but that's not really technically feasible. Since this is a highly subjective (and apparently highly contentious matter), the forthcoming suite of options seems like the best possible compromise in appeasing all sides of the discussion. I'm looking forward to trying out the new options and seeing what they bring.
  17. Why "replaced" instead of "in addition to"? I hope this doesn't screw up things up for HOTAS programming. Toggles are a pain in the ass for getting horribly out of sync. :(
  18. Where have you seen any info about it being released "half-baked"? Has anything been said by Razbam or is this just scurrilous rumour-mongering?
  19. Let's keep this on topic, guys.
  20. That would be my guess, too. Not very interesting for me as an exclusively SP gamer, but I can totally see why it would be huge for the MP crowd.
  21. No, not selective. Just access, i.e. "an announcement that the beta is now accessible". Strikes me as rather unlikely, though.
  22. Check out this preview and go to the paragraph that begins "This brings us to the real meat of the article: in-game performance." There are obviously no guarantees, but it does sound promising.
  23. ...convinces me that there's an AMAZING Korean War sim here in its formative stages. I totally get the observations that the Sabre's AI is currently "a little lacking", but there are the seeds of something incredible here. I hope a properly populated Korean theatre does eventually reach fruition. Keep up the great work, Belsimtek!
  24. Only just spotted this update. I'm now officially stupidly excited. :D I'm hoping for something Russian (e.g. Mig 23), but I'll take pretty much anything post-WWII* from Leatherneck. *I have all of the WWII modules for DCS, but I just can't get into them. :(
