  1. In the States we have a saying....”Get both!” Get the Anton for now (ground attack needs survivability), but have a plan to get the Dora soon afterwards (next sale). Many here complain about Early Access, but imho the complaints are overemphasized. The planes can fly, they can do most of what you want them too, and generally the things they can’t do are relatively minor (i.e., they won’t cause the plane to suddenly spiral out of control or drop bombs up, etc)
  2. I like 1/72nd...mainly because there’s a B-52 in that scale and it really shows how big the BUFF is. Especially when I had a 1/72nd Fokker Tri-plane nearby! :pilotfly:
  3. That’d be an immersive detail if one tied it in to the canopy opening!
  4. I don’t know if this is related, but I was in the F5 over the Caucuses and whenever I fired the cannons, the tracers stayed visible and stopped in mid-flight... I actually flew by them and could see their 10’-20’ tracer lines. Really odd. I think I took a screenshot of it, if I did I’ll post it.
  5. Seriously good to know, thanks!
  6. I’ve recently “discovered” the WW2 planes after a couple years flying jets...they’re quite fun to fly, kind of a cross between helos and jets considering how helos get very low-level and how maneuverable jets are. And their A2A combat style is pure “guns only”, no fancy schmancy push-button kills. Given that the F4U Corsair when released is going to be a popular plane, it makes sense to develop an adversary for it. At least get together with the owners of the sole surviving example of the A6M5 and document all aspects of flight performance and sounds etc? Once documented then development can be done as time and funds permit, even if/when the plane can no longer fly.
  7. Hornet has the gun mounted to one side, and even though the Vulcan has 6 barrels, they all fire out of the same position as they rotate. F5 has two barrels, both mounted just a couple feet to either side of the centerline of the fuselage. Short bursts FTW.
  8. If I flew with an actual ejection seat, I wouldn’t be the one buying it nor the cushions. ;) And you’re right, in the F-111 (ejection capsule; the only aircraft I have extensive sitting time in) the seat “cushions” were about 1 1/4” thick, and about as comfortable as sitting on a concrete bench with just a folded towel.
  9. I went to Lowes and bought an OD-greenish lawn chair cushions (seat and back, about $30). They fit perfectly on the ACES II seat I’d made with the free plans available online. I’d love to have used an actual surplus seat, but the prices (and weight) were a bit much for my wallet.
  10. Great little video, very pleasant to listen to any real life pilot.
  11. Awesome, thank you both! I’m going to look into the EDTracker.
  12. I use the clone of TIR, and it’s pretty good, except when combining left/right with up/down at their limits, then it gets either stuck or wonky. I’ve heard there’s an alternative that uses something—magnetics? Some form of magic that doesn’t bind the movement of view. Please tell me about it, if known. Thx
  13. ...that a crop duster (which sorta resembles the Yak-52) could outrun and outmaneuver a pair of F/A-18s... To be released in 3D...please assess for accurate FM, I’m kinda blurry on these things.
  14. Napalm! I watched a video today where the new A8 dropped a bomb on a building, and the flames were incredible! Napalm shouldn’t be that hard to do* if the essential graphics look that good! *I know nothing about graphics or programming.
  15. My method, does not use laser engraving: 1/16” (1.5mm) aluminum (switches mounted on this) + 1/16” (1.5mm) black acrylic/plexiglass (creates a space for switch retaining nuts and LED wires; also extends to the full aluminum sheet size so mounting screws are recessed below engraved layer) + 1/4” (6mm) clear acrylic/plexiglass painted with 3 layers ‘brushed on’ flat black acrylic, with lettering and lines manually engraved with a dremel + 2mm round bit. Dremel is mounted in a press. The corners are cut off 9/16” (not shown in the pics) to allow the mounting screws a recess. As a guide for engraving, I print a sheet of the labels I need, with 1/2” (12.5mm) space between words, to allow a border for the rubber cement to hold it on place. The dremel bit pretty well mangles the paper label. I do one label at a time, so I can remove and wash off the cement...rubber cement takes a long time to set, and it can be easily rubbed off. (1/16” + 1/4” = 5/16”, which will fit the switch column flush with the face of the panel) It’s definitely not comparable to laser engraving, but then I’m willing to trade finesse for the $400-$500 for an engraver I’ll only use for cockpit panels.
  16. Is it possible it’s mistranslating fwd/back as up/down because the camera is located well above your eyeline? My 3 screens are 20”, and the camera is located roughly at the top of my head (my eyes are level with the center of the screens). If so, there should be settings which tells TiR where the camera is placed relative to the IR leds+your head.
  17. SRS definitely needs better installation + setup instructions. It took me about two weeks to make it work...and the "contact us on Discord" is about as effective as...well, let's just say it was futile. I still haven't talked to anyone yet in MP, apparently one has to have friends and agree on a particular frequency...
  18. By “safe”, you mean they will stay there intact, yes? Does DCS then include them as an option in the ME and/or the rearm/refuel request window?
  19. “OP” = Original Poster (the person who authored post #1 in this thread) in this case Hawkeye60.
  20. Selecting padlock will lock your eyes on the nearest aircraft. It will always be in the center of your view, but it is very easy to forget which way your plane is facing during extreme angles...hence the need to quickly reorient your view to the HUD/forward view. It’s a quick way of locating the hostile if you lose sight of him, which is easy to do given the limitations of video technology.
  21. I’ve noticed I don’t get the AOA stall warning as I encroach into the red area on the gauge...SU-25T is good for this (and includes “Betty”), but I can pull all the way back and do a really hard turn without a warning or even a loss of control. How do I fix this? TIA
  22. Good ol’ community-based agitation! That’s how many good things—and a few bad ones—become real! Thanks, to those who stirred the pot!

    U.F.O.

I watched that show as a kid...never noticed that the pilots wore polyester leisure suits while flying. I really dug the women’s purple hair, though. Very British! (Oh, and the one-way mirrors too!)
  24. Meaning...what is “rubbish”?
  25. All of those will work, but they will provide different outcomes. Practice all of them and note angles, speed, which ones are best for pursuing and which ones are good for evading...then in a dogfight when you find yourself climbing and pursuing (or being pursued) you’ll know the right maneuver to get the advantage.
