Ah, my mistake
-
I agree!

Odd: load times om my end have DEcreased quite dramatically

Sure, I'll see if it changes anything but do keep in mind Havoc needs your help more than I do I only notice an issue in certain cloud preset / time of day combinations where the Phantom is FAR darker than any other module (tested by swapping the aircraft in the mission editor) and yes in such cases reading dials can become difficult. Gamma 2.2 is default as far as I understand (both in general and in DCS), so 2.1 should make it darker rather than lighter, no?

Personally I wouldn't call it that, but depending on the clouds in the mission and where the sun is at, things definitely are (very) dark. For reference, these are mine (I fly exclusively in VR but made this screenshot in pancake mode):

I just did a helicopter flight again on the Malvinas, and yes the 900ft performance hit is still there. For me it's actually 950ft AGL: framerate at 949ft is half of that at 950ft. On the Kola map I have been flying helicopters just fine without this weird fps jump...

You're definitely not alone: it is indeed the darkest cockpit in DCS at the moment. In fact, it makes me a bit worried for when we finally get tinted helmet visors (Cobra announced it 2+ years ago for all HB modules): for me the dark patches around the cockpit look fine if I had my visor down, but there is a huge contrast when sunlight directly hits the inside of the cockpit. That being said, lighting has been iffy in DCS for a good few years. I bet it's not easy having both the inner cockpit look properly lit AND not have your retinas burnt out when looking outside - and that's ignoring the washed out colours (of the outside world) when you don't have a visor down

MiG-29A Fulcrum - Announcement

*cough* They did in fact confirm this, in the very first post of this thread. -
Hey, Earlier today I decided to fly around the Frankfurt area in a Phantom (opened the F-18 hotstart IA mission in the ME and swapped it for a FRG Phantom), and when I opened the throttles Jester yelled that I was "out of my god darned mind". When this happens it's usually because either you're being naughty and taking off from a taxiway, or DCS doesn't recognise the runway as a runway which makes Jester believe you're being naughty, while you actually aren't. I don't know if this is something Ugra or ED needs to fix, but this might be a result of the map being new - a viewpoint that was brought forward by Heatblur's Ironmike who suggested I make this bug report. If you need a track, I can try to reproduce this but I think the issue is clear enough without one. I'd like to add ATC asked me to take off from runway 07 (which I did: 07L in fact), and I made sure to taxi past the zebra markings before opening the throttles. Thanks!

Feedback Thread - Phantom Patch 17-04-2025

I am well aware not everyone is a fan of Jester's banter, but I for one love it! He regularly brings a smile to my face, still! Jester brings life to the module in a way no other DCS AI copilot does -

Sure, I can do that! I actually tried to prevent issues by making sure I passed the zebra marks before opening the throttles. But hey, at least Jester loved my landing ("almost as beautiful as Meg Ryan") so that's still half points! -
Yes, due to heavy demand Ugra will make one after Phase 3, they said.

I just did a 100min flight around Kassel in an "OH-58A" (doors installed, no pylons, no MMS, no CMWS). There are some nitpicks and optimisation passes needed: - There is a TACAN station in the NW area of which the fence is partly on the road around it: it looks like it needs to be turned 10-15 degrees to the right to make it fit better; - There are a few areas where the performance tanks (heavy stutters and framerate drops by half); - There are bridge pylons that are placed ON the motorway. But flying around this area in the late evening brought tears to my eyes! This is one heck of a map!

Shame, since there is a lot of potential there...

Personally, I look at any DCS terrain as an "artists' impression", and judge it on its own merit. This prevents disappointment (in areas of realism at least), and allows for more enjoyment of what IS there. I am a very happy bunny: this purchase was well worth it! And as I stated in another thread, performance is indeed very good!

Feedback Thread - Phantom Patch 17-04-2025
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The changes to pitch trim damping are definitely an improvement. Now I need further testing to see if I need to make a new bespoke Rhino profile, as my "3rd gen fixed wing" profile has a fair bit of damping applied to it already. Time will tell if I need to simply get used it it again myself, or if a new profile will help... Jester yelled I was "out of my god darned mind" while taking off at Frankfurt And he yelled: "we lost cabin pressure!" while descending from a 37k MSL cruise over Germany (not an air start but a hot ramp start). I haven't heard that one before... -
I saw a “DCS department store” (paraphrasing) with a large billboard at the parking lot showing various modules, and I saw Ugra oil barrels inside a hangar but thus far nothing immersion breaking as the “Normandy 1944” spam Syria used to have. It was all pretty subtle (as far a I’ve seen).

DCS: Cold War Germany - preview
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to MAESTR0's topic in DCS: Cold War Germany
Neither can I: the lowest fps I saw was 35, while flying low over Berlin. Can it be improved? Sure, probably but it’s launch day and remember Marianas when it first released? South Atlantic? Or even Normandy 1944? Those were nauseating slideshows down low. Even Syria had bad performance for a good while. Ugra clearly did well on the optimisation front thus far- 489 replies

Cold War Germany discussion
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to Rick Mave's topic in DCS: Cold War Germany
Yes I had to go through that as well: the last 4GB were at 0-16KB/s with some excursions up to 6MB/s. Sorry, sleep was more important -
Cold War Germany discussion

Let me fix that for you I just had a few helicopter flights on the new map, and let me just say that the various YT videos can't even prepare you for the experience of flying there in VR. This map raises the bar so high, Ugra needs binoculars to find the other terrain creators - miles below them Ugra Media clearly is the Heatblur of terrain developers! The detail down low is so ridiculous and yet the performance is really good - VRAM is of no concern. I will spend many hours in the next few days simply flying around there, while wiping the drool off of my chin... -
