It works fine with G2, I use it all the time. Info here:

Probably just a last fix before the stable release is updated. I think the F16 updates are next month.

All I want to be able to do is read the cockpit - what do I need?
DucS2r replied to tspesh's topic in Virtual Reality
I upgraded from the Rift S to the G2 this summer for the exactly the same reason as your post. I thought VR was a game changer but was frustrated because I couldn’t easily read the gauges and dials. So I kept shifting from flatscreen and Track IR when I was learning something and went back to VR when I had it down. Frustrating. The G2 made all the difference, I am 100% VR now. All the above caveats apply though. I had to significantly upgrade my CPU and GPU and I had to fiddle with the WMR and Steam VR software plus add a few shader mods before I was happy. But you are lucky, @speedofheat has made a guide about how to optimize performance with the G2 and he keeps it up to date. That should save you a lot of time and frustration. -
Thanks, great news.

With the new beta mine only loads with Caucasus and PG, though I haven’t tried Nevada. The problem is a conflict with the Kegety’s Shader’s mod, all my other mods work fine. And yes, I uninstalled before the update, and reinstalled one mod at a time, plus ran a repair. I really don’t like flying VR without the shader’s mod, Clearwater or standard, so I have reverted to stable. If anyone finds or develops a workaround or an update to the shader’s mod please post. Thanks.

I am finding the same issue with the standard shaders' mod. Also with the Channel Map and the Mossie.

Bingo, that did it for me. Previously I liked the performance increase with FSR but couldn’t stand the shimmering. At 0, I can run FSR at .77 and Reshade too, at the settings in your 3090 guide, MSAA at 4x, and maintain a forced 45 everywhere. Even hit 90 at times in the Caucasus. And I am happy with the cockpit clarity and the external visuals. I think I can stop tuning, lol.

I found it tedious as well and not very informative. Mainly a test of what you know already. The Baltic Dragon ones look much better if the first is an indicator of what is to come.

I need to qualify my two weeks statement. That was an hour or so each evening over two weeks. Plus I acquired a new computer so that included testing and setting the XMP memory profile, fooling around with overclocking the CPU (I didn’t end up doing it) and coming up with an undervolting profile for the 3090. Plus, I had not used mods before, so I had to learn how to use a mod manager, plus test out Keggety’s shaders and other potential mods. That was when Reshade first came out too, so lots of fooling around with it. And Speed of Heat’s tests came out too, so I tried all of those. The only real time spent just on just the G2 involved learning to use and set up WMR portal, Steam VR, and putting my standalone DCS in the Steam directory. If I had had the set up guide Speed of Heat put together, and with my computer already set up I could have done the whole thing in a couple of days. I love to tinker as well, so I didn’t rush. I basically did everything SOH ended up with, except I use Reshade VR and do not use FSR. I also added a thin face plate gasket to improve the FOV and sweet spot.

I recently went from the Rift S to the G2. It is a night and day difference to me and has made me go 100% VR, a very good thing indeed. Takes a few weeks to get everything tuned properly, it is not plug and play like the Rift, but it is a major upgrade. As long as you have the horsepower to run it, I think you will love it.

In 2D I’m sitting on a chair in my room in front of a computer screen. If my phone blinks I check to see who it is. I frequently hit pause, go downstairs and grab a drink, check out what my wife is watching on tv, then go upstairs and unpause. In VR I am sitting in a cockpit at 20,000 feet 100% occupied by flying the sim. I would no more consider pausing and doing something else than I would consider jumping out of a plane. It reminds me of mountain climbing or riding a motorcycle. Totally immersive.

I called the business services number and asked for technical support. Only had to deal with one person. He asked me a lot of questions, but they were pertinent and I got the cable. The number I called was 800-334-5144. I think I had to ask for business services when I first called.

Given that we already look pretty goofy siting in front of a computer with a VR headset on, I don’t think looking like a nearsighted Navy Seal underneath the headset will be a problem, lol. Great suggestion, thanks, I am going to try it.
-
They told me they were out of stock too, and I still got the cable two days later. Hopefully that will happen to you as well. The US not the UK, in my case.

The thinner face insert does increase the sweet spot and field of view. It is definitely worth adding.

My review on Vive pro2 (vs. Valve Index / HP reverb G2)
DucS2r replied to lqqfrank's topic in Virtual Reality
I had the Vive Pro II on order twice, but ran into delays. I settled on the Reverb G2 with a high end 3090 system, and after lots of adjusting and advice I could not be happier with DCS. For $499 it was the right choice for me. I look forward to the Index 2, but for now, I am happily simming in DCS and not spending all my time adjusting. Though that is fun, to a point, lol. Big thanks to the pros here like speed of heat and dburne! -
It’s a beast, and all the memory comes in handy. It made, along with a major CPU upgrade and a G2 headset, VR a joy to use. After two weeks of getting everything working, lol, but that is the current nature of VR.

I did the complete windows reinstall about a month ago, but that was because I tried to delete and reinstall WMR portal as well as WMR for steam VR and Steam Vr, and was unable to reinstall WMR portal. It kept saying it was already installed. It is a pain to reinstall windows, but it did seem to help at the time.

Sr., you have probably already tried this, but I found (as recommended in another thread), that reverting to stable in WMR for Steam VR, and VR for Steam, solved most of my problems with VR Steam crashing. I still get the occasional “unable to start your headset at 90” messages, which go away after a restart.

Poor and unstable VR performance on a decent and recent rig
DucS2r replied to hinapilot's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks. I looked it up and it was NVRLA.exe that was giving me problems. I don’t see it listed in your services. And I think speed of heat meant to look at task manager with nothing else loaded to see if a background app or service was soaking up your CPU time. Good luck.- 19 replies

Poor and unstable VR performance on a decent and recent rig
DucS2r replied to hinapilot's topic in Virtual Reality
Following up on speed of heat’s suggestion, when I loaded the NVIDIA 471.41 driver it loaded a monitoring process that took 10-12 % of my CPU and kicked off the cooling fans. I disabled it and got my cycles back. I don’t remember what it was called but a number of people complained about it. It you find processes hogging your CPU google their name and see if you can safely disable them.- 19 replies

I have a relatively new rig with a 3090 FE as well and after spending a few weeks tuning everything for my Reverb G2 was happy with the performance, solid 45 FPS with mainly high settings. I just undervolted my GPU as noted, and ended up at 800mv at 1815mhz. There were other settings that were similar, but I like that one. No loss of performance and much greater stability. It isn’t hard to do and everything is reversible.

Piling on, but thanks. Dropped both betas and have two nights of flying without a Steam VR crash, and everything has been running smooth at relatively high settings, basically @speedofheat’s 3090 settings, on the Syria map. I was ready to give up, I was getting crashes every 5 minutes and stuttering any time I pushed the settings.

That would be really nice. I put little fuzzy Velcro squares on critical keys, which helps, but a virtual keyboard would be great.
