Apologies in advance for the longer post - but this is important as its about the Integrity of the product. Well you guys that want white dots or any dots for that matter to "help you spot" have totally missed the point of the game, it is meant to be a simulator. With respect and no offence meant you have come to play the wrong product, there are other less realistic sims for you without naming names or equally on servers within DCS that have labels or just enable them in SP. That functionality for a dot label is already in the game! Do not keep begging for things that ruin, and i mean literally ruin gameplay for those that play this product a little more seriously. Many like myself desire a more realistic experience and i can assure you that spotting things in real life is not easy. You are not visually going to be easily spotting attack aircraft and choppers from circa 7+ miles especially if they are below you, are camouflaged and your also being bounced around especially in choppers over mountainous terrain and their thermal systems it's just not that easy. Add to this heat and climatic conditions especially in hot theatres its extremely, extremely hard. You'll often hear a chopper before you see it, its that simple and in valleys that's also deceptive as it bounces off the peaks above you so its not as easy to locate direction. Its like if you lose someone in the water, what's the golden rule you don't take your eyes of that person. Same thing applies here if its a threat. Spotting past 7 mile is really hard for small targets and if you turn your head away and look back 50%+ of times you will lose the object and precious time to reacquire. If they change azimuth, speed and direction then that probability start's dropping like a stone. For those that want to see ground forces from 15/20 miles away its time for a reality check. Good luck if your against experienced operators finding a FSG vehicle even from a few miles away if its in a slight depression or wadi, with appropriate nets and placement re shape and backdrop. Again especially in hot theatres with the Mk 1 eyeball your just not going to pick up on it, unless they make an error and show signs of movement etc which is what your brain will react to. Only time when you might get a white light, its generally a flash of a reflection. So from a ground perspective this may be a glass in a vehicle (IF its not been taken out) or some idiot using bino's or optics without ARD's. But, again you'd have to time it right to be looking and also they would have to be stupid and on a deathwish. With trained professional's its just not going to happen, they also want to go home at some point in the future and not in a box. All you guys wanting a dot, so that you can put your dot on it so to speak and blow it up are just not living in the real world. You need to ask yourself do you just want to play a game or do you want to play something that you have to look and search for, not be put on a plate for you. Having these dots - which i note have from the ridiculous white dot are now black dots is not right. It ruins gameplay, it is just not realistic in anyway shape or form. I have not had chance to play much since the update however note that the black dots now appear on all units and was seeing them from 15+ miles away in VR. I need to test this weekend but i think it's actually probably further. It is not good especially for virtual chopper guys or tac commander's that have ground forces. It's also frustrating flying CAS because its Insta kill time. I mean yes alot of DCS is like a game, i mean take JTAC smoke on all multiplayers, just roll in and drop on the laser. No specific attack corridors required (which in the real world have a very restrictive optimum attack heading either side of the JTAC heading towards the target with a central no attack zone around the JTAC and pretty much anything opposite) so you don't lock and kill the people that either need help or there to support the mission. But we accept that for what it is and can get around this in game if we so wish. Hard coding dots for objects is game breaking, its that simple. Please for those of you wanting these back on or to continue, either enable the existing setting so you have dot labels (as do not kid yourself your wanting the same thing) but do not ruin this game for those of us that play the game with a bit more realism. I would, as with many others that have already spent over $1000 on software over the years for this game to have it ruined by inexperienced players. Also last point - it takes years to learn to spot units in real life and what to look for, you have to train how you look, how you sweep your eyes, the focus point and the speed of that, the pattern that you use, was that shape their yesterday etc. Do not make it easier than it already is. Yes it's a game but some degree of making it more of a challenge should be welcomed not seeking way to meta the product to make it easier for you. As I said not meant to cause offense, but is meant as a reality check. PS - Also I only play VR so those of you with monitors that already zoom to the max when airborne in a loaded G turn ask yourself could you do that in real life? We do not need dots.

Ok thanks for the pm, just opened so just literally a 2 minute reply until get free later. When your game grinds to a halt have you tired lifting the visor and just open task manager, anything to make DCS not the active window? Once you put the headset on again does this solve your issues. It works for me now 80% to 90% of the time. I'm still tracking through the problem but note there is some type of F10 map memory leak that can on occasion halve the fps. Especially true if used tac command. Quite often opening another process and returning back into the game acter your GPU using drops right down with the headset off clears it and you return back to 40 or 45 fps depending on headset. I've become a master of MP inflight wing levels level headset off and back on again whilst I open another app lol. Note I have using VR for 5 years DK1, CV1, Rift S, Vive and G2. Note I'm back on the Rift S as the G2 has failed after less than a week of use and locked like many others on 4-1. What is the Q2 lkke visually inside does anyone know compared to Rift S with say bit rate at 300 to 500 and Pd say 1.2 to 1.4 if needed. I'm preparing to sell my sole to facebook given the G2 issues I've had its about to be sent back.

Adding Textures, Citys and Airfields to Iraq and Kuwait?
Hawkeye_UK replied to CanopyJettison's topic in DCS: Persian Gulf
I would say at this stage 99.9% no which is a shame. What we could so do with however is just one airfield at Doha on the map, especially for bomber and support aircraft as that opens the map up hugely. Its also the main base in the region and should really be there. It opens up different flight corridors into Iran. Even if it had no detail just runways, aka Janes F15 style and parking slots that would be enough. It would be a massive present for mission planners and users for such a little investment time. I cannot emphasize this enough. -
2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
Hawkeye_UK replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
So yesterday, Friday, was New Years Day. A national holiday in most countries. I think we can all survive without it until next Friday, it's not like there is going to be any real developments between Christmas and New Year anyway, its family time and for most people a break. I would hope that ED are no different. Surprised someone has even made a thread on it to be honest - in the interim go fly a new module or learn how to use the ones you have -
Upgrade from Rift S to Quest 2 - is it worth it?
Hawkeye_UK replied to DutchCoolHand's topic in Virtual Reality
Also very interested to know how this is in DCS with the link and bitrate set to circa 350 on a link cable especially if anyone has tried on say 2080/2080ti with 5 Ghz Intel CPU and 32GB of ram or more. I've had a nightmare with the Reverb G2, worked for first 24 hours now nothing i do can get around the 4-1 ,4-4 or 7-15 issue, no customer service and no replacement due until March at the earliest. Its a bad experience also re interface coming from Rift S to the WMR plus Steam VR and the carcrash that it is. I'm now trying to fathom out what visual difference the quest will provide and that the colour isnt poor etc. Infact the whole G2 overall has been hyped, yes the sweetspot visuals are very clear but im sceptical of the R&D of the product, too many issues and can tell its been pushed out. I saw a poll that indicated over 30% of customers would not buy another due to poor stability, DOA or shortly after and other firmware issues such as headphones that disable the headset over 85%. Oh and that cable clip, if that made it through the R&D process god knows what the insides of these things are like. I can wear the RIft S for like 10 hours no issues, 4 hours in the Reverb G2 left my eyes feeling funny and a bit strained (ensured correct IPD setting, its my 5th year in VR and 5th Headset) -
really depends on the hardware your using and the settings you have them at re: centre detent. It also very much down to your own finesse and how much foot control you have / muscle memory. So for example i run MSG Crosswinds and because they are super accurate i use a deadzone of 1. As i general rule of thumb the worse the controllers are in terms of quality generally increases the centre deadzone. Its the same for curves on the axis, good hardware means that you can reduce these to 0. I think the only thing i have a curve on is the Gazelle, purely to try and get something more realistic.

General point of order given the history of bugs being moved to resolved. I note in the last month a genuine bug has been moved into resolved (rose compass issue on TGP by chicken) that is actually an outstanding issue, causing a double posting (and wasting customers time). I just want to ask on the protocol for this given that historically this very situation was one of the primary causes of frustration for the people that know the Harrier very well. Think we just need a check and balance on moving things to be resolved until 200% sure, the information quoted in the response is incorrect, along with the SME if that is indeed what he said which i very much doubt. Just mindful and highlighting earlier of how not to go down a dark road again. Bugs are listed there for a reason and need to be respected until fully complete. On another point, what was the outcome of the official bug tracker, it was deleted of the Razbam website in the Summer following the tensions that arose with a mention that it was being worked on. I have seen nothing to replace it as yet. It would be worthwhile to have this, hell it might even provide useful as a Gantt chart of some type for the project manager.
-
Obviously this function is vital - we also need the ability to import waypoints by calling them W01, W02 etc. However the real stumbling block is that the current system is useless in MP when you have numerous harriers all using T01, T02, the CAS and data import can very quickly becoming overloaded. Razbam need to introduce a cycle function in kneeboard to that you can select your own or another players F10 mark points. If you are in doubt that this is feasible or not sure just look at the Heatblur Viggen system as they implemented this last year after constructive feedback. To note you can also create waypoints and target points. Also Deka have brought in a similar system for the JF17. Something is missing in your code as it pulls through every F10 mark point. This is a MUST as the current system is not fit for purpose.

Should be fixed on 16th i believe, currently being tested internally.
-
About time that ED actually made this an option in the specials tab - given that they said they would. Not a fan of modding the game. This was a week one request from the community and its such an immersion killer in VR - also on the turn into the carrier for landing actually blocks my view of the and also at night its just blinding. When will this be done? It is frankly very poor that your customers are having to sort it out themselves for what is a 5 minute addition of work. Simply not good enough that a simple request has gone on for so long.

Guy's 3 months later from posting issue an update would be appreciated......

[ALREADY REPORTED]White Dots on All Air and Ground Units
Hawkeye_UK replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in General Bugs
Thanks Big Newy, re testing in open beta absolutely get that and no worries. However are we saying that the internal testers passed this as a feature and acceptable for gameplay or they liked it, a concern if so. Thanks for your efforts in testing the fix, fingers crossed it comes out this month so we can go back to playing DCS properly without cheat mode on lol. -
[ALREADY REPORTED]White Dots on All Air and Ground Units
Hawkeye_UK replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in General Bugs
Hi Flappie what does MP sent mean re your last post? -
Nope its pointless, a bit like they dont weigh themselves before every flight or their sandwiches, or how much water they have taken in etc. Trust me your barking up thr wrong tree on this one. It's all about scale and the fact of the matter is it would be a waste of ED dev time to attempt such a thing, as you the player would not even be able to tell. Same as in real life. The things that matter are Fuel, Stores, Temperature and wind. Trust me no one on the fly when working out fuel balance will take into account the CM's dispensed and thus what mass has been lost, just doesn't happen.
-
Oh dear - because 22 miles is realistic lol, neither is zooming the view snapshotting. Time for a reality check, IRL if the target is below you especially and over uneven terrain you will do well to pick up small aircraft past 7/8 miles, add in the met factors and that can be brought down even further. We do not need white dots or black dots to define where units are, its a terrible step backwards, might as well have labels on. Use the systems, learn to build your SA to track where targets are likely to be - once you get visual do everything in your power to not let your eyes lose the target. Stop wanting a war thunder style of game.
-
But if is an outstanding module, just about the most rewarding fun you can have in DCS is flying the Mig21 in MP on low level Grom missions and sneaking up on unsuspecting Hornets ;-) (Once the E3 is dispatched)
-
And missed the most problematic issue - the radar being operational and losing nearly 50% of FPS randomly - Or do you not use the Radar? Concentrate on the operational issues first, cosmetics second.

[ALREADY REPORTED]White Dots on All Air and Ground Units
Hawkeye_UK replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in General Bugs
Thanks Bignewy - however we got the same response a few weeks ago - we need some update on this position, not just that its being discussed internally, surely it doesn't take weeks for that discussion for what is a game breaking issue? Please can you ask the dev's specifically either to roll back the code, or rectify with new - the game is unplayable. -
In one of the training missions on the campaign i notice it references the BAP100, however this munition does not exist in game. What is the progress of the system?
-
As in circa 150g for chaff and 200g per cartridge for a flare, the point is it becomes pointless in relation to the overall mass and its effect is basically unmeasurable.
-
Are you aware of the actual weight of chaff, say in relation to the fuel it requires to power one minute of flight with AB?

Since the start of November, when they 'fixed' the night time issue of units having white dots (reflected moonlight) they have managed to break the game entirely by having units showing as a white dot during the day. This is the single biggest problem in DCS right now and all PvP servers are broken because of it. It's as bad as having labels on almost and for the more diehard servers it has become unplayable. It is especially painful for servers such as DDCS that has player slung ground units that then show up like bright white lamps to be immediately dispatched by CAS platforms. Air to Air engagements have become pointless. CAS has been made for noobs, put the thing on the thing! I did have a thread already that was closed however @BIGNEWY on discord asked that i create a new thread on the issue. (old thread with pics etc and explanation https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/digital-combat-simulator/dcs-world-2-5/bugs-and-problems-ai/general-questions-ac/271014-resolved-nighttime-visibility-excessive-15nm-white-dots-no-labels?view=stream). I have real concerns on this issue as when questioned on discord the response i got back was that this was a "feature"? If the aim is to play with labels on and have no realistic combat environment then it has succeeded, if the aim is to have it more realistic then it's a game breaking step backwards. I hear quite often people have issues with spotting, reality check, its very hard in real life if the object is below you and past 6/7 miles out, especially over uneven terrain. I also note that the original problem lasted from 2.5.6 release until the start of this month(9 months), the exact same issue for daytime flight cannot carry on for the same period surely, it is not acceptable. 3 weeks ago there was a response saying that there is a discussion with the Dev's? We need this to be reversed asap even if this means just reverting the code that brought the night time issue back (which we could get around as servers with having no moon). Please can you make this an urgent hotfix, the game and its gameplay is utterly broken with this simple issue. Thanks.

[RESOLVED]Nighttime visibility excessive (15nm white dots no labels)
Hawkeye_UK replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in General Bugs
This really needs sorting , utterly game breaking. Both air AND ground units are white dots now during the day following the 'fix' to the night issue. Might as well have labels on!!! This really needs an urgent hotfix and deeply concerning that this made it through into OB, disappointing that now 2 weeks later that it has not been resolved! This is the exact opposite of the problem of the night time moonlight issue showing units as white dots which went from February to November without a fix, (except that in MP PVP we took out the moonlight on the server as a work around). Now we cannot fly daytime missions without units being spotted 30 miles away, as i said game breaking for the likes of DDCS that has player created slung units and a full ground war with Tac Commanders. How this is making it through ED's internal testing let alone closed beta testing. It's fair to say we need more testers that have more experience or equally have the time to test as its painful and utterly obvious on loading up any mission! This issue, especially given the original post on the night issue should have been corrected prior to release as part of the internal testing, unless it was slipped in at the end without the internal closed release? Big Newy what is the plan, 8 days on what is the dev's conclusion? Needs to be urgent fix on this rather than a 8 month period as it will affect nearly every MP PvP server.
