Yea i have my page file set to 32GB (same as memory) on the SSD same drive. However this has been static for me disabling the track writing has helped micro stutters, fluidity of fps.
-
Ps @bignewy i would also suggest that this is an option client side for this in the settings as not everyone wants track files especially when they can grow beyond 200mb in size for individual long MP sessions. Theoretically this is placing extra strain on the hard drive of players recording them and manually deleting them. Also it is common of knew players to not even know they are even accumulating in the saved games folder. I know examples of 50Gb + being stored in this location and from what i can see its not clearly referenced and no option within game settings to delete - which there should clearly be.

Regarding micro stutters after much trial an error it seems like the track file writing is creating issues (i use m2 so its not hardware limits) so currently the best thing i have found to do is disable track writing to improve micro stutters which are more noticeable in VR. To help and assist this problem you need to have an auto exec file in your saved games\open beta version\config folder with the following line in disable_write_track = true I've attached my file i use daily for use if your unsure, it also has the disable USB line in their also for ease that big newy references above. Hope it helps, made a big difference for me especially for players who are on servers with alot of combine arms units on the ground and pushing dcs to it's limits. I have had positive feedback's from several MP players who use VR and disable track file writing. autoexec.cfg

Potential Problem - DCS storing files and using HDD space
Hawkeye_UK replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in General Bugs
Once you get to local, there should be a folder in there called temp - then in there is where the DCS open beta folder temp folder is - check back to my original path in the post as in the \local there will be no DCS, its within the subfolder of temp after that position. thanks -
Interesting one my m2 SSD has been getting smaller - its not the multiplayer track files this time (which i clear out) however after painstaking going through my PC i find 75GB of data in C:\Users"my name"\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta ! Having a look at this data its all ogg files, png files from old missions even but basically every time i play its storing something in this directory. Can you check your file path and see if the same - literally losing 20% of my HD on this. Need to know if safe to remove? There is literally 100's of the same server briefing pages in png format also in here. What's also interesting is that windows disk clean up lists 78Gb of temp files to be removed, 75Gb is this folder listed above. I thought temp folders should be cleaned out by the software? Windows when running the clean up for some reason wont remove the DCS created files. Note this is in addition to my 182GB main DCS Open Beta folder. Safe to select all and delete in this folder, what causing this?

yes its a good module and always been very patient with Razbam, albeit i have to admit it is now wearing thin. Why prioritise eye candy ( virtual pilot body ) over essential key binds is beyond me - Cockpit binds - Essential. Worst of all is the x and y axis slew for the targeting pod - cannot be used doesn't work - 2 years later. Community manager and team that are slow to even reply to forum posts and acknowledge them. Nothing personal in nature my post, purely observational. Again they need to sort out the priorities which if they would listen to the community is not eye candy but sorting out the mission critical systems. Good example is when 2.5.6 came out, reported night lighting issues in the cockpit making the EHSD map unusable at night, flir cannot be used in HUD anymore. With the JF17 there was issues also as per every other module, Deka sorted their's out the following patch - nothing from Razbam yet 6 weeks later.
-
So this was started in another post - its running over 2 years. Surely being able to slew the TDC to the x and y axis is paramount to use the TPOD and weapons, you know for a CAS aircraft and all ;-) Ok so whats the latest with this - surely this is more important than a pilot body...... Core Systems must take preference over eye candy please, but seriously over 2 years is excessive. I've only discovered this as got a new controller and standardising by keybinds so moved this onto the axis - its the only aircraft it wouldn't work on so its not ED. Thought my new hardware was broken until a quick forum search. Bumping this up - And Razbam please can you reply with something substancial given its been such a long time for such a critical functionality - not with its on the list...surely this isn't a hard fix ? Time this was resolved and put to bed.

[RESOLVED]Nighttime visibility excessive (15nm white dots no labels)
Hawkeye_UK replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in General Bugs
Excellent @bignewy thank you for addressing - please can you keep the thread updated from the dev guys on how progress goes. As i said the new environment looks amazing and is a credit to ED, i'm sure this is something and nothing regarding the tweak required yet the effect for gameplay is huge. -

What you are not aware of is I'd discussed on discord with the community manager previously to the post and outlined couldn't post my track files due to size - not trying to be smart but anyone that plays the game at night can see it a mile off and its totally obvious. It does need to be reviewed. Appreciate regarding correct bug reporting re track and screenshots and when they are required for more erroneous issues they are posted. On something so clear to see for everyone it shouldn't even need a screenshot. As i said some of my track files are north of 250Mb (only play multiplayer). As for the other post i have nothing to check attitude about, however i would ask you look at your own post re "smartass" its not exactly polite and inflammatory in nature. My comments where observational and not personal in nature. You should be have been directed at the other person wading into a post dismissing the issue on a subject matter that clearly they had no knowledge on. Just no point people making the thread longer discussing something they clearly know nothing about. As i said no offence meant however it was in response to a "half baked report comment and therefore not to be taken seriously". @Pikey appreciate you taking the time to post your track file of the issue, thank you for the comprehensive posting. In relation to your comments I think all serious competitive multiplayer's have got bored of it lol, especially helo pilots trying to be sneaky beaky and getting nailed after 20 mile flights to repair bases or attack airbases etc who can't defend themselves. It's painful in the harrier also when use to love the night for hiding, as for the ground war, yep safer in the day now !! -

Art just noticed your response, clearly your ignorant on both current night time multiplayer or the requirements of mission editor, which is fine, however don't feel the need to make comments such as "half - baked reports" on a subject matter you are clearly clueless about which underlines your lack of experience, its not helpful or constructive to progressing the game. First learn how to use mission editor (i could set an example up in around 60 seconds lol), fly night times in multiplayer and using tac command slots in ground warfare, then tell me there is not a problem. Many thanks. -

Bignewy as i stated on discord tracks are too large (they can be 250mb+) Track is really not needed for anyone that flies the game at night - ask anyone that flies multiplayer with combined arms forces on the ground. Its not system spec dependant, driver dependant its core code not periphery. Apologies for the delay in the response - have you made any progress with this in the interim? Many thanks. -
Combined arms vehicles that have been given a route will stop when they get to a bridge and get stuck on the top of the uphill as it meets the bridge. The units can then pile up on themselves. There is also bridges with telegraph pole wires running over the top of them that make the bridge even impossible to drive over. This combine with the F10 map crash when you zoom in makes for another annoying challenge. So @ED please can we sort out the following as currently the map is nearly useless to model moving combat warfare. 1) Vehicles are stopped by bridges. Also when they drive over them they throw up dust as if the road suddenly changes to gravel not tarmac - why? 2) vehicles going around a roundabout also throw up dust - again needs to be resolved (Helps CAS pilots way to much) 3) Vehicles driving over mud and grass surfaces throwing up dust like their in the desert - why (particularly noticeable on Caucasus map) ? Totally unrealistic and not necessary. 4) Small scrubs in the PG map will stop any vehicle in its tracks, yep even a tank, IFV etc. Not sure how this even get out of alpha build. 5) Vehicles are able to be inside each other. Which when piled up due to coming to a bridge (i counted 7 inside each other yesterday) makes it very easy for them to be killed with one bomb / missile. 6) Vehicles decide to turn off from the main road and enter town's despite setting waypoints and then get trapped and can't be moved due to the dense small buildings. Why isnt the road tagged so they stay on it, would also help pathfinding. Makes the map unplayable for any moving ground units! @Nineline @Bignewy can we confirm these are on the list to resolve please. Also please do not ask for tracks - they are too large to post re MP and not required when its a common issue that happens to everyone. Surely if you play the game you and the devs will be aware also however posting so we can have a record to revisit. Many thanks.

Worse in VR with some clouds showing in the right eye and not the left and vice versa. ED really need to stop messing around with new modules and sort out the issues already in the game.
-
+1000 I find it quite staggering given ED have released 2 maps, largely with desert in and for the very quick colour palette change they have nothing for Nevada or Persian Gulf. @bignewy / Nineline please can you raise it with the dev's as many maps including our multiplayer server uses PG

lol god knows how i missed the bottom line of your post was too busy looking at the specs. All i will say is DCS in VR is amazing it totally transforms the experience. I remember the 1200 well lol think we are similar ages, no doubt you where enjoying later, Janes F15, F18 and then the mecca that was Falcon 4. Crazy to think that campaign ran on the system specs it did, 16mb graphics cards, 266mhz Pentium, credit to how well the ai code was written at the time. -

Cannot reccomend VR enough - it totally changes the game and their is literally no going back. I have a really nice 4k monitor and never use it these days. You didn't mention what headset and this may depend on what you do with your rig setup? Would recommend re price point and visuals / software integration the Rift S. However if you had set aside a larger budget for a headset (no visual difference with Vive Pro as far as i can see to be honest and not the price gap perspective) then i would look to put another £140 spend into the CPU for the i7 9700k (overclocks nicely across to all cores to 5Ghz but gives you more performance without OC). If you want to overclock CPU i would go all in one liquid cooler, decent one another £35/40 but worth it. Good choice with Ram. £2Gb vital for multiplayer VR these days, if your SP you can get away with 16Gb. Good choice with m2 i was amazed when i first got one how much better they make the performance - super fast. Also set up a pagefile on the m2 with a decent size (16gb). Now for the bad news, i wouldn't like to run VR in DCS at the moment on anything below a 2080. I say this as for me running MSAAx2 and a IPD of 1.5 is important to me for visual clarity. Big difference if i take this off in terms of visuals. This is the one thing i cannot stress enough VR needs monster graphics cards in DCS especially 2.5.6 since the night lighting (and memory leaks) came into the OB. Granted this will set you back another £250 however i cannot stress enough that you will get alot more performance with the 2080 Super (EVGA 2080 super XC £720). It depends how much of a primary hobby gaming will be to be honest. IF its something you spend alot of time in then it may be worth spending a little more in the short term. -
Very high RAM use - ryzen 5 and rtx 2080s
Hawkeye_UK replied to pickler's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
VR and Multiplayer definitely need 32Gb of ram these days and to be honest i wouldnt want to run 2.5.6 on 16Gb ram even in single player. Also SSD m2 not Sata. That said 2.5.6 has many memory leaks at present - its not stable - think alot of the issues is spaghetti code. Would also recommend the i7 as CPU could struggle re i5 and VR. Tried the i9 but waste of money. If you upgrade again go i7 9700k, it's excellent. -
would highly recommend Seedlo missions they are very well done. Go to user downloads on the website filter by mission and harrier and there is plenty of content for you to enjoy. Operation Broken Cauldron on the PG map is also a good one, with realistic ATO missions for harriers. Also operation clear field is a sandbox style mission which you can alter yourself in ME if you so wish to change time of day etc, load out . Has lots of spawning missions which is probably the next best thing to multiplayer away from the Single player missions by seedlo.
-
Spoken like a true singleplayer who has no comprehension of how many issues there are with the current version of OB. The best thing ED could do is to delay the Supercarrier indefinably until all the bugs in 2.5.6 are identified, the core memory leaks and bugs are resolved, combined arms ai improved, synchronisation of multiplayer environment (clouds for example) and the hornet and viper are further along prior to introducing more code into a very unstable OS on Beta. Whilst the Supercarrier looks good and i also will be purchasing we have to remember its only for the start and end of missions, yes it will help immersion however is it going to affect the core simulated combat. No. There really are more pressing and urgent fixes required that is affecting multiplayer and/or VR and i'm actually dreading its release for the impact it will have on the rest of the code.
-
Note how he had lowered some of his settings - no Heat Blur etc. I just hope they don't release this module before sorting out the core of issues within 2.5.6, and equally ensure when released it doesn't cause even more memory leaks, Ctd's. No one interested in serious multiplayer is chasing the Supercarrier at present that's for sure - especially when we still have ground and aircraft units lit up like christmas trees at night not to mention the instability that is 2.5.6.!
