  1. Brother, We are still waiting for wands for night operations.
  2. Yes, it is.
  3. Oh there's interest! You do good work, from what I see!
  4. I'm liking what you have! Don't discount yourself! I hope you consider releasing these in the future...kick-ass paints!
  5. Did not know that, thanks! I don't particularly fly the A-4 in DCS. Love the plane, it's just not that exciting for me in DCS. Maybe I haven't given it enough time. I screwed with the Phantom in another sim. I have the F-4J NATOPS. The A-4 sounds a lot like the Hornet in that regard tho.
  6. Not far off huh? Are we looking at the same diagram? They are 2 totally different deck layouts. You can't even stack the deck the same. The only 2 comparisons is that they are both old and conventional! As @LanceCriminal86said, it would be better to do that to the Stennis...albeit a bit weird as well! I'm sorry, but a 67 slapped on top of a Forrestal class is just blasphemous...
  7. Yes! The F-4 Phantom did it! Before the hornet, most jets had to have the pilot pullback on the stick to rotate off the cat. That's my observation anyway!
  8. Now you are speaking my language, friend!
  9. Cyclic ops are not always Zip-lip. I think I've only done it about 3 times. Did a lot of Hummer controlled approaches but not much Zip-lip. That goes along with an EMCOM situation most of the time. But I digress...back in the day (cold war) I understand that they did a lot of it. In my day (Not so far now) we did very little! Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the RIO should be checking us into Marshall and all that, as well as the ball call!
  10. I'm not sure exactly! Was just speculating and being hopeful.
  11. The problem with the flood lights in DCS is that they are constant. If I recall, we had 2 or 3 different light settings (IRL) in primary. The lights that you see on the SC are pretty standard but there is no variation. I'm not sure if it had to do with ambient lighting or whatever and what setting. I just remember the Boss yelling for it. He had a certain setting for the aft lights, and another for the forward. Maybe this new Air Boss Station will allow for that.
  12. I get it in the Tomcat all the time. I thought it had to do with DLC and throttle position maybe!?
  13. When was this use of Blue flood lights, may I ask? It's only been 3 years since I retired but I remember the floods were yellow-amber colored. All around the island. The centerline lights stayed off during the day unless Case 3 and only came on for recovery in such conditions or at night (I worked in Primary once upon a time). There was a certain light setting during Combat FOD walkdowns that I remember appeared blue, but that was rare!
  14. Just to piggyback everything here, I'd also like Jester and the LSO to recognize a Touch-and-go! Yeah, the constant "slow" calls are annoying!
  15. I'm with you on this. I always pull back on the stick(for effect). From what I know, that's how it is supposed to be. The SC or any catapult in DCS will launch you no matter what and you will rotate off of the Cat just fine. With the F-14 in DCS, it's like flying the hornet. You know you are going to rotate! This is something that I would personally like fixed: Correct Catapult End speed depending on weight and other factors! Not a "one size fits all" catapult!
  16. Check this out brother...If you haven't already! It's from @Reflected F-14A VF-142 Ghostriders 1984 (digitalcombatsimulator.com)
  17. It is not risky at all. If that were true, you'd have to explain the A-4 and A-7! Navy aircraft, including the F-14A launched just fine under mil power! I'm not a pilot, just an old Flight Deck Chief. As far as I can tell, it depended on what they were loaded out with. Don't trust everything that you find on the internet! There is also footage of Tomcats being shot off of the Coral Sea on YouTube.
  18. Wow. Thank you. I'll try these!
  19. For me, the F-14A just feels right landing on the Forrestal! A few more things: -Brighter Deck textures -Brighter Meatball -Deck crew (Someday I hope) -Can we for the love of all that is Naval Aviation, get the LSO to stop calling us "Slow" even when we are overpowered? This goes for both the SC and the Forrestal. I'd hate to be so pedantic, but the Firefighting vehicles need swapping out as well. The P-25 did not exist during the Forrestal's era. It was the P-16 that was used. This may not be popular, but we need an E-2C! I've seen some users use an AI SH-3...that's great! Some things onboard CV-59 (DCS for that matter) are out of place. This is not a complaint, but an observation. I'm not sure why but 1980's and 90's carrier ops look and feel like they belong to DCS. ED could own the 80's and 90's era if it chose! Great work HB!
  20. If you are referring to the Long range line-up lights, The Forrestal wouldn't have had them in her day! Those came way later!
  21. It's about 244 ft. of runout if I recall! The length matters not at all. When an aircraft is on final or in the groove the arresting gear is set to whatever A/C's max weight. But say, a pilot were to land faster than normal or an incorrect weight setting was made. There are other factors as I recall. I am not an ABE though, I was an ABH. The wire can go far. An Aircraft can get caught in the nets off the angle.
  22. It is actually more simple than that. When Pilots come into Flight Deck Control, they put a weight chit into a box for the Shooters. It has asymmetric loads, weapons loads and fuel etc. That is the responsibility of the Pilot to know how much the jet weighs. You know what you loaded and how much it weighs. If solo, subtract how much fuel you've burned and how much ordnance that you don't have on the way back to the ship or whatever. It's just math! It may be painful to do for some so I get it, which is why I would like Jester to do it or I do it myself. Anything else I may as well jump into the Hornet to look at the DDI.
  23. I was agreeing with you brother. But I do think having it on a kneeboard is like a cheat. Are you suggesting it just be on the kneeboard waiting for you to look at? A real pilot (solo) would have to do the calculations himself (except for in the Hornet). If you have a RIO, I'm sure he would do it for you. That's why I think it should be a Jester option. If it is available on a kneeboard to glance at at any given time and is dynamic, then it's just like the Hornets Checklist page.
  24. I get it, but then it would be just like the hornet. I'd rather do the math myself then that. I could get with it being in the Jester menu. Maybe labeled, "Jester Gross Weight" or "landing checks" rather than it be just hitting the DDI to see my stores page. IJS
