  1. Understood. I do not run any core mods.
  2. I have 4 _backup folders at the moment but they only account for 86kb in total so I am surprised that deleting your made any significant difference?
  3. These contain files that are non standard to the DCS install. In other words they are mods or changes that have been made to the core files of a standard install - the update locates these files and replaces them with the original file then it backs them up in case you want to review them, they can be safely deleted but the next install will create more backup files if you change any of the original core files. Obviously this does not apply to any changes made in the SAVED GAMES folder.
  4. I just tried it... For me, Caucasus map, F7, I can zoom out for ever, F4, the same, if I press F2 after F4 it zooms out a long way then snaps back to a close view.
  5. Good advice! Mine uses 3% at startup
  6. If you look back at what @Brainspiller said re. " It looks like they are deep in technical dept." leads me to the conclusion that the fact that "it can be done" does not mean DCS can do it (or is willing to do it).
  7. I have to agree with this (even though I am aware that there are HUGE budget differentials between the two)
  8. @BIGNEWY Has said "Vulkan is in progress, no ETA to share yet."
  9. Sadly, for me, it seem like my most highly anticipated features: Air Traffic Control Vulkan Implementation Dynamic Campaign Engine Data Transfer Cartridge Save / Load Game State Will be more "Beyond" than 2025...
  10. This!
  11. As a former RWP I agree with all your descriptions of ATC and especially PIC however your conclusion that CTAF is sufficient is strange given that DCS already implements a bastardised version of ATC and that other major FS that we cannot name () has clearly invested many programming hours in creating a passable ATC environment. DCS is a simulation which prides itself on realism, given that fact, a desire to improve upon an existing feature is laudable, in my opinion. And yet significant development time was invested in prettying up the pilots...
  12. True, however a quick glance at the market place will reveal products around the same price point offering multiple airframes and global destinations. As I have said before, DCS has somewhat of a monopoly at the moment which allows them to dictate pricing. Having said that we all have a choice - purchase or don't purchase, no one forces our hand...
  13. Whilst I totally agree we must accept that ALL advertising involves an element of subterfuge. The aim of promotional advertising is to build awareness of a product, increase a product's sales and boost overall revenue, to that end a certain amount of 'artistic licence' is incorporated. I make DCS cinematic videos, in the course of 'production' I often eliminate elements that detract from the overall 'enjoyment' of the video or that break the immersion. The only difference is that I am not selling anything... Their disclaimer says it all.
  14. I posted something about this module a couple of weeks ago basically saying that I had included it as AI in a mission and as soon as it spawned the mission became a slide show, I replaced it with the original DCS Chinook and it ran perfectly...
  15. I imagine, as with many concepts in life, they balance one against the other.
  16. Actually, much as I respect your comments @Rudel_chw, that is a little naive; in that in the world of realistic aerial combat simulators DCS is a one horse race...
  17. Agreed!
  18. Extremely well put! I think you hit all the points perfectly. EA is akin to a builder asking for a proportion of the payment in advance in order to purchase the necessary materials, this is common practice in the construction world, perhaps not so common in the video game market but in DCS it exists for the very same reason, or so it seems to me.
  19. This! I have all the other maps but Syria and Caucasus account for 90% of my DCS time. I think it's more a case of misplaced eternal optimism with regard to the maps.
  20. Does it crash before the explosion occurs?
  21. Hi Rudel_ch! This was referred to in the original post, inclusivity was never the issue, for me it was all about / immersion / realism, as for my female friend's original comment, she was simply stating a fact, that apart from bitchin' betty, everything in DCS was male. Still not sure how it relates to the given context?
  22. And hopefully the woefully inadequate taxi / take off lights of the F-16?
  23. Yes, a well constructed, passionate response! (not sure what "we "incarned" it" means?)
  24. You seem to have lost the lock just before your fired?
