Thanks, I just figured the "one mile trail" referred to the AI aircraft, since you'd normally join up on left wing. HOWEVER, AI aircraft always seem to break left after finishing AAR, which can lead to some unpleasant close encounters if you do things that way

Bear in mind that document is several years old now, so it's not surprising the numbers are a little off. For testing acquisition time, I'd suggest popping up from terrain within range and timing it from there. You'd be amazed at how much time you actually have for the older systems. The newer ones are, unsurprisingly, far less pleasant

known TGP not LASING when rolling towards the target
jaylw314 replied to MoppleTheWhale42's topic in Bugs and Problems
The lowest I'm able to circle and keep the laser on is a depression angle of about 30 degrees, or a slant range : AGL ratio of about 2:1, e.g. 5 nm (30,000 feet) : 15,000' AGL, and I don't remember that changing in the last couple years. 9 nm and 12k' AGL seems unlikely. -
Some of that data you can get from the publicly available 476th Threat Guide, and I'd point out it's probably more important to consider the time the SAM takes to detect and engage you. For the SA-15 it's something like 10 seconds, for the SA-8 it's more like 30 seconds. That makes HUGE difference as to how you can pop up to attack. With the SA-8, you have all the time in the world, even if you're still technically between min and max range. With the SA-15, you've got much less time to do your business and then get out of harm's way

AFAIK, when the tanker says "chicks in tow," it means he ALREADY has aircraft lined up for refueling, so you need to wait your turn. I think he's saying he has other aircraft in a 1 mile trail waiting. I noticed that when AI is refueling, they break to the left when finished, so you might wait in the right on-deck position, otherwise some poo may come out.

can not reproduce CBU-105 won't release correctly after quiet mode
jaylw314 replied to RepoManR6's topic in Bugs and Problems
Late to the game, but as long as you don't edit your autoexec.cfg file to stop it from doing so, DCS will automatically save ALL multiplayer flight track files in your Saved Games directory. In fact, you might want to clear it out as it is not unheard of to build up into GB's of track files... -
IIRC, AA mode on the TGP is not particularly brilliant since you can't slave anything to it (like, say, the AIM-9 seeker). In addition, even though you can cue the TGP to a location with the HMCS using DMS right long, the TGP FOV is (for whatever reason) NOT displayed on the HMCS, so you otherwise have no particular idea where the TGP is pointing. For helicopters, AG mode with POINT tracking seems to work, and has the benefit of being able to cue AG weapons (like Mavericks), and showing you where the target is on the HMCS.

OP was talking about the SA-15, not the SA-11. The SA-11 is a turkey shoot.

can not reproduce Canopy opening/closing sound missing?
jaylw314 replied to dporter22's topic in Bugs and Problems
Works for me still, too. Wasn't there an audio issue in the A-10 with the C-130 or UH-60 mod (I can't remember which)? -
@DN308 ^^ FYI, the line that says T= 4.0.0.8, the first two digits refer to the time you've spent in alignment mode (4 minutes in this case), so that will count up from 0.0 once alignment starts, so that should give you an idea of how much time you have left before full alignment. The second two digits is GPS accuracy and will decrease over time

More importantly, I can see in your screenshot on your CDU page that there is a * next to the INFLT button, suggesting you haven't pressed the NAV button yet. In the upper right, I can see *** where there should be a D5, which shows your DTSAS FOM. You are still in alignment mode The "INS NAV RDY" cue comes on solid when a degraded EGI alignment is available and if you press the NAV button then, may not be sufficient for targeting. The "INS NAV RDY" cue begins flashing when a full EGI alignment is available, and you should only press the NAV button then. I have not tested what fails with a degraded EGI alignment, but based on the industrious people above, it sounds like it does cause problems. I can't imagine anything works if you're not actually in NAV mode. The time it takes for a full EGI alignment: Ground: 4.0 Fast: 1.6 Inflight: 5.5-6.5

They require an occasional turn to stay aligned. If you fly on autopilot for a while, they'll require a couple gentle turns to keep them ready.

Setting up a monitor to record a VR session
jaylw314 replied to Hammer1-1's topic in Virtual Reality
Are you talking about recording the cockpit view or external view while you're in VR? I don't know there's a way to do the latter, but the former you can still do in Open XR. Put your mirror on a 4K monitor, or (if you have Nvidia drivers) make your desktop resolution virtual 4k. Then use OBS studio to record off the game window (no plugin required), crop the output like you want and Bob's your uncle. The OC-ACC compositor comes with some OBS plugins, but when you enable it and use the OpenXR Toolkit, all 3 together produce a memory leak for me and I've not been able to use them, but the plugin would really only be helpful for a game that doesn't have a mirror that comes out at 4K, which DCS thankfully does. -
The secret to not having to delete markpoints is to spam them so often it doesn't matter For example: I find following a road in the TGP with slew controls annoying, so I just make HMCS SOI, drop markpoints spaced about one TGP box apart along the road, then I can just flip through them all without messing with the slew control. If I need to mark a point and a direction, I'll draw a little arrow on the ground with 3-4 markpoints Use them to triangulate radar SAMs on the RWR These sort of things will cycle you through the markpoints pretty quickly, so no need to delete them

AFAIK, AI planes, even your wingmen, will only show up as green circles on HMCS. Not all AI planes show up, but your wingmen should be green circles, not blue arrows.

Laser set to Latch on by default?
jaylw314 replied to directorguy7's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
If you only get two gun reticles (the static cross and 4/8/12 reticles), I think that's an indication that something about your startup was incorrect. I can't recall the specifics, but I think if you don't correctly align the EGI or forget to turn on the EAC, you don't get the normal gun CCIP reticle and CCIP cross, just the two fixed reticles (or if some important stuff gets damaged). Anyone remember the specifics? -
They do in Australia, don't they???

reported A10c ii MFCD backlight brightness not working
jaylw314 replied to DOG's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, it was a couple updates ago. The only workaround for now is to reduce both the brightness and symbology brightness, but it's still pretty painful -
Do you have a Reverb G2 or WMR headset? If you're running through SteamVR, you can test if that's the problem by going to the WMR for SteamVR settings in the SVR dashboard and selecting "Disable" for Default Motion Reprojection. I've not found the SteamVR per-app settings to be reliable for DCS you can also do the settings from your desktop (from Thud's VR4DCS blog): (X):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\bin\win64\OpenVRSettingsUX.exe

Wait, that is odd, I use a Reverb G2 as well, and it's definitely not like that. The vertical FOV of the G2 is less than 90 degrees, so the center of your IHADSS is more than 1/3 of the way to the top edge?? I'd suggest grabbing a screenshot with the IHADSS monocle visible. The visible monocle can give a better perspective as to how off-center it is in the FOV, since it covers a far larger area than the symbology EDIT: OK, thinking about it more, I think what your saying is that the Reverb G2's FOV when your head is level covers more above the horizon than below? That does seem to be the case (I recall the Odyssey+ was much better in this regard), but right now the symbology for me seems to be in the center of the FOV, which, with head level, is actually above the horizon. The downside to moving the IHADSS down in the FOV is that the lower part would then be significantly out of the lens sweet spot

A couple points to bear in mind (and just to beat a couple dead horses too): The HUD was designed to be visible across two eyes, so, unfortunately, that means if you're not playing in VR, you might see less of the HUD, hence having to move the viewpoint a little forwards The little bump at the bottom of the HUD is the video camera (non functional in DCS) The default seat view that ED intends has the HUD top edge about 5 degrees below the horizon on the ground, and the boresight circle just barely not visible without moving your head. A lot of people complain this is unrealistic, and a lot of people claim this is realistic. In ground attack, your priority is looking down and over the nose rather than up, so I just go with it Ah, and @Hiob mentioned adjusting zoom--you actually want to adjust your head position forwards, IIRC that's RSHFT+RCTRL+Numpad / That makes the HUD frame bigger in comparison to the HUD display. Zooming in will make both bigger by the same proportion, but the HUD display will remain cut off by the HUD frame Edit: Oops, no @Hiob got it right, I didn't read his whole post
