Ha! You're absolutely correct, of course! I'm just so used to getting blown up on a regularly basis that I forgot that people need to practice it!
-
LOL, I think you're right, I might have had that backwards in my head. Either way, I suspect it's an excessively modelled aileron "float-up", but that's just speculation on my part.

Some clarification the elevator channel is automatically switched into manual reversion on dual hydraulic loss, so flipping the manual reversion switch does nothing to pitch control, it's already in manual reversion. The pitch feel changes significantly, but of course you won't notice this in DCS unless you have force feedback In DCS, flipping the switch DOES seem to reverse pitch trim control. Nobody has been able to clarify to me if this is true IRL or not, so not sure if it's a bug. The aileron channel is NOT automatically switched into manual reversion. This is controlled by the cockpit manual reversion switch. When switched, you're supposed to keep the ailerons neutral for about 4 seconds during the transition, otherwise the ailerons can abruptly release, presumably causing roll transients. Unfortunately, in DCS this seems to be overmodelled, and almost impossible to prevent if you have outboard stations heavily loaded The aileron trim should be disabled during manual reversion TL;DR -- the "Manual Reversion" switch actually means AILERON Manual Reversion

investigating Nevada CAS instant action mission bugs

What DOES the CB in CB UHF stand for anyway? -
Good lord, I can't imagine how all those airline pilots out there manage to land their jet aircraft in crosswinds without a FPM or even a HUD! Imagine the carnage! FWIW, the HUD was never certified as a primary flight instrument

I hadn't noticed the difference in look-down Remember that the second missile will arrive faster because it has less distance to travel. Maybe a more intuitive way to think about it is that is can keep its speed up because of a steeper dive angle than the first missile Remember that the laser designator only goes out to a spot 8+ miles out, so the calculated TOF is to a point 8 nm slant range away, not actually at the target in your TGP (if the target is farther than 8 nm).

AI don't respond to comms Mission 1
jaylw314 replied to jaylw314's topic in DCS: A-10C Operation Agile Spear Campaign
Er, actually, the AI wingman doesn't actually go into trail when given the instruction, it remains stubbornly off my wing until I'm on final. -
Mission 3 - Kneeboard incorrect

The Mission 3 kneeboard datasheet looks to be the wrong one, from Mission 2 -
Thanks, I just figured the "one mile trail" referred to the AI aircraft, since you'd normally join up on left wing. HOWEVER, AI aircraft always seem to break left after finishing AAR, which can lead to some unpleasant close encounters if you do things that way

Bear in mind that document is several years old now, so it's not surprising the numbers are a little off. For testing acquisition time, I'd suggest popping up from terrain within range and timing it from there. You'd be amazed at how much time you actually have for the older systems. The newer ones are, unsurprisingly, far less pleasant

known TGP not LASING when rolling towards the target
jaylw314 replied to MoppleTheWhale42's topic in Bugs and Problems
The lowest I'm able to circle and keep the laser on is a depression angle of about 30 degrees, or a slant range : AGL ratio of about 2:1, e.g. 5 nm (30,000 feet) : 15,000' AGL, and I don't remember that changing in the last couple years. 9 nm and 12k' AGL seems unlikely. -
Some of that data you can get from the publicly available 476th Threat Guide, and I'd point out it's probably more important to consider the time the SAM takes to detect and engage you. For the SA-15 it's something like 10 seconds, for the SA-8 it's more like 30 seconds. That makes HUGE difference as to how you can pop up to attack. With the SA-8, you have all the time in the world, even if you're still technically between min and max range. With the SA-15, you've got much less time to do your business and then get out of harm's way

AFAIK, when the tanker says "chicks in tow," it means he ALREADY has aircraft lined up for refueling, so you need to wait your turn. I think he's saying he has other aircraft in a 1 mile trail waiting. I noticed that when AI is refueling, they break to the left when finished, so you might wait in the right on-deck position, otherwise some poo may come out.

can not reproduce CBU-105 won't release correctly after quiet mode
jaylw314 replied to RepoManR6's topic in Bugs and Problems
Late to the game, but as long as you don't edit your autoexec.cfg file to stop it from doing so, DCS will automatically save ALL multiplayer flight track files in your Saved Games directory. In fact, you might want to clear it out as it is not unheard of to build up into GB's of track files... -
IIRC, AA mode on the TGP is not particularly brilliant since you can't slave anything to it (like, say, the AIM-9 seeker). In addition, even though you can cue the TGP to a location with the HMCS using DMS right long, the TGP FOV is (for whatever reason) NOT displayed on the HMCS, so you otherwise have no particular idea where the TGP is pointing. For helicopters, AG mode with POINT tracking seems to work, and has the benefit of being able to cue AG weapons (like Mavericks), and showing you where the target is on the HMCS.

OP was talking about the SA-15, not the SA-11. The SA-11 is a turkey shoot.

can not reproduce Canopy opening/closing sound missing?
jaylw314 replied to dporter22's topic in Bugs and Problems
Works for me still, too. Wasn't there an audio issue in the A-10 with the C-130 or UH-60 mod (I can't remember which)? -
@DN308 ^^ FYI, the line that says T= 4.0.0.8, the first two digits refer to the time you've spent in alignment mode (4 minutes in this case), so that will count up from 0.0 once alignment starts, so that should give you an idea of how much time you have left before full alignment. The second two digits is GPS accuracy and will decrease over time

More importantly, I can see in your screenshot on your CDU page that there is a * next to the INFLT button, suggesting you haven't pressed the NAV button yet. In the upper right, I can see *** where there should be a D5, which shows your DTSAS FOM. You are still in alignment mode The "INS NAV RDY" cue comes on solid when a degraded EGI alignment is available and if you press the NAV button then, may not be sufficient for targeting. The "INS NAV RDY" cue begins flashing when a full EGI alignment is available, and you should only press the NAV button then. I have not tested what fails with a degraded EGI alignment, but based on the industrious people above, it sounds like it does cause problems. I can't imagine anything works if you're not actually in NAV mode. The time it takes for a full EGI alignment: Ground: 4.0 Fast: 1.6 Inflight: 5.5-6.5

They require an occasional turn to stay aligned. If you fly on autopilot for a while, they'll require a couple gentle turns to keep them ready.

Setting up a monitor to record a VR session
jaylw314 replied to Hammer1-1's topic in Virtual Reality
Are you talking about recording the cockpit view or external view while you're in VR? I don't know there's a way to do the latter, but the former you can still do in Open XR. Put your mirror on a 4K monitor, or (if you have Nvidia drivers) make your desktop resolution virtual 4k. Then use OBS studio to record off the game window (no plugin required), crop the output like you want and Bob's your uncle. The OC-ACC compositor comes with some OBS plugins, but when you enable it and use the OpenXR Toolkit, all 3 together produce a memory leak for me and I've not been able to use them, but the plugin would really only be helpful for a game that doesn't have a mirror that comes out at 4K, which DCS thankfully does. -
The secret to not having to delete markpoints is to spam them so often it doesn't matter For example: I find following a road in the TGP with slew controls annoying, so I just make HMCS SOI, drop markpoints spaced about one TGP box apart along the road, then I can just flip through them all without messing with the slew control. If I need to mark a point and a direction, I'll draw a little arrow on the ground with 3-4 markpoints Use them to triangulate radar SAMs on the RWR These sort of things will cycle you through the markpoints pretty quickly, so no need to delete them
