If the TGP is SPI, the location will of course move with the the TGP. Was something other than the TGP set as SPI at the time? That would definitely be odd. It is kind of frustrating that sometimes the TGP finds the original target and sometimes it doesn't. If it fails, it'd be nice if it failed consistently

Well, I don't KNOW it's not a bug. I've certainly experienced finding things in simulators that made me believe they had actually simulated some kind of real failure mode, and explained in my head to myself why that would happen IRL, only to find out in a later update that it was just a bug and they fixed it I've wondered why they didn't make the longitudinal axis of the Litening II camera oriented in some other direction, since straight ahead is kind of a cardinal direction. My suspicion is that the designers just didn't think about it since they were expecting the important area was going to be straight down with LGB attacks.

Good to hear! I asked for and got a replacement about 3 months ago when supplies were back ordered and it took about 2 weeks, but the support guy on the phone had me squared away in less than 15 minutes, which must be some kind of record for a customer support call.

Another motive for having the switch set to WING is that the wing tanks are less protected (integral tanks) than the main tanks in the fuselage (tear-resistant bladders). As such, I imagine one would prefer to enter combat with the wing tanks empty, although I have no idea if that's a standard procedure IRL. I believe the fuel indicator in the A-10C module was previously set to INT by default. It's a good setting to have if you want a quick visual reflection of your total fuel (assuming no external tanks), since the full scale essentially becomes a "empty/full" fuel gauge

oh, ok, never mind then, haven't run into that. Once POINT catches a vehicle in limits, it tracks well unless it runs behind some cover or unless it turns into P-INR.

Just put the monitor REALLY close to your face In fairness, I did that with a 50" 4K SmartTV, tried setting up head tracking, and immediately became violently ill, despite the fact that I can handle VR perfectly fine. Go figure...

Did you log in with your DCS account at the e-shop website? If you don't, it won't know you have the original A-10C and won't give you the option -
POINT and AREA have a much smaller volume limit than the camera does, it seems to be mostly under the aircraft. I've never been able to consistently map out this volume (it may change with altitude and range), but you can see where it ends when it changes from POINT to P-INR. I just posted this elsewhere, but one thing to consider is that when the TGP is tracking a moving target in POINT mode, if it goes outside that area and changes to P-INR, it continues moving the camera by rates instead of video tracking. So if your tracking a vehicle on a straight highway, it will SEEM to be continuing to track the target, but it's fake and can lull you into believing it's still tracking. It will eventually wander off. Worse yet, if the vehicle makes a sudden right turn, the TGP will continue happily down the highway in the direction the vehicle was moving beforehand. If you maneuver the plane so the camera is able to switch back to POINT mode, it suddenly locks onto whatever is in the camera at the moment which can be a bit jarring if you weren't paying attention. This is not a problem with AREA mode, of course, since there's no moving target, when it switches to A-INR, nothing really changes You could also do a quick search on the forums to find previous threads to see if the problem was already reported: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/280566-targeting-pod-wanders-off/

Considering a training campaign (Iron or Maple Flag)..

Playing the Iron Flag campaign. It's quite immersive and entertaining, BD always does a fantastic job with scripts and voiceovers. I suspect it's not terribly realistic in how somebody would do basic (or transition, in this case) training, but it's pretty cool still. The Maple Flag campaigns are probably more realistic but less entertaining. There is an expectation that you know and have practiced the curriculum, otherwise you will definitely not pass. Some parts are frustrating--I recalled one mission insta-failed because I was told to fly in a straight line, and then flew out of the MOA which is not in the mission briefing. If you're a beginner, the Iron Flag campaign will probably be easier, but you'll still have to do at least some reading and practice to keep up. -
The old marketing term they used with HUD's is that they were "holographic". They weren't really holograms, but the idea is that the HUD image is projected in a way that it appears a long distance away. That's useful because if you move your head in any direction, the gunsight still appears over the same spot in the sky (or, more optimistically, over your target). That also means (by definition) the HUD image appears the same size no matter how close to the HUD glass your eyes are. To do so takes some optical wizardry with special lenses and reflectors. An added advantage is that the HUD image is focused off in the distance, so you can keep the outside world and the HUD image focused in your eyesight at the same time (although not really an issue in DCS). There are small arms gunsights that actually do have a holographic reticle for those reasons, although it's an actual hologram. The upshot is that the HUD display appears to be fixed over the distant scenery. To simulate this, DCS simply makes the HUD part of the scenery (although only visible when seen through the HUD display).

I haven't seen POINT suddenly jump off, but I have noticed that if you get outside the (poorly understood) POINT track envelope and it switches to P-INR, the TGP will actually continue to follow a moving target by rates even though the camera is not tracking. This can give the false impression it is still tracking, and when the target makes a right turn suddenly, the TGP continues straight and follows the main road with no vehicle. Then when you turn and the location is back in the POINT track envelope, the camera suddenly latches onto a spot on the ground and stops again. It can be very annoying and surprising, and I've avoided using POINT track for anything except the few seconds for laser guidance.

The "wandering TGP" is definitely a thing and there have been plenty of prior threads and video caps. I've haven't seen anyone with IRL knowledge confirm or deny that it occurs, but I speculate that it is accurate since the TGP in POINT and AREA mode are video image trackers, and there is a longitudinal rotation axis that could make image tracking problematic directly in front. It's an area about 5 degrees wide about 10 degrees below the boresight circle (or about 5 degrees below the TVV in typical flight). That does put it slightly above the rocket and gun reticles, so if you "pull" a target into the reticle for a shot, that's when it often happens. With bomb CCIP and CCRP, that dead zone is much farther away from where the TGP is looking, so it's far less likely but still possible. AFAIK, you do NOT get the "GIMBAL ROLL" warning with the wandering TGP. If I'm correct, it's not a gimbal limit issue, it's an image tracking issue. Like I said, the "why" is purely speculation on my part, but the upshot is you should not pull up to bring targets into the gun/rocket reticle while tracking with TGP in POINT or AREA mode. Workarounds include rolling into the target with the TVV slightly above the target before rolling level, setting tracking mode to INR (TMS Aft short), setting a markpoint/slaving the TGP to it, and/or pitching down to get the pipper on the target. I can't say I've seen or heard of a bug that changes the TGP from laser to IR pointer mode without using the HOTAS or OSB.

No, I almost never use it, so I've not seen that. I find I'm constantly throwing the TGP around using the HMCS and DMS Right Long, and glancing at the TGP page to confirm what I'm seeing (I find the TGP repeater on the HMCS is too low-res to help). It's amazing how it keeps your head out of the cockpit and gives you better SA. I rarely if ever have the TGP boresighted.

If you follow the SRS dev, he has reported this changed in the A-10C with the last update. Probably something to do with their new voice chat, where the in-cockpit trigger for SRS is no longer registering. SRS uses the cockpit switch state, and you'll notice the mic switch no longer moves with the radio keybinds in DCS, so that's probably connected. I imagine he also does not know if ED intends to make all modules work this way, or if it was a mistake for the A-10C. It sounds like he plans to look into it, but for now "ALWAYS allow SRS hotkeys" is the only workaround. You can make an A-10C_2 profile in SRS so that it doesn't affect the other modules you have. FWIW, if you set your keybinds in SRS to DirectX buttons only, you don't have to run SRS as administrator (and can avoid the annoying windows UAC popup)

I think I recalled the mission asking you to change the transponder to Norm before takeoff. IRL in the US civilian ops, it's been a thing for transponders to be turned on prior to taxiing, I suspect this is now the case in the military to. -
I've actually found that even with the TGP pointing at an object and slaving the MAV to the TGP, it will still occasionally lock onto something nearby when I press TMS up, so there's definitely issues. Whether the issue is realistic or not is up for debate, I suppose.

It's a pressure check for the refueling receptacle. After refueling and closing the door, the receptacle is pressurized with bleed air to check for leaks and to push the remaining fuel in the receptacle and lines into the left (I think) internal tank. The light comes on when the system is pressurized for about a minute, then turns off as the system slowly pressures down. If the READY light does not come on, or only stays on for a few seconds, you have a fuel leak or damaged refueling door. I believe this only occurs if you've actually taken fuel, I think it does not occur when you simply cycle the door The same pressure check occurs when you press the LINE CHECK button before refueling. If the READY light fails to come on or stay on for more than a few seconds, you have a fuel leak and is a no-go for AAR
