Nasty vent on Norton Products
emenance replied to hitman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ask any computer tech what they think about noton system works. It causes more problems and is a POS. Man if I were you id load in xp and keep system works out of it. Your internet dependant on Norton? What your describing is a mess. System works can ruin an OS too.Seriously a computer tech will laugh at a machine that has system works on it and might not spend too much time trying to fix it before wipeing it and starting over. Thats the way it is. -

Nasty vent on Norton Products
emenance replied to hitman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hitman, the problem could be a couple things. First off you better not be useing two anti virus or firewalls at the same time. Second, these new bloat ware like this and internet security is not something a power user gamer uses. I suspect a comflict with VISTA. I hope you have system recovery monitoring the c drive. "If anyone has an idea why I cant use my windows update give me a PM" Well if you have automatic updates on , thats ok but here is the trick. It wont automatic install windows validation. You have to go to the microsoft website , click updates and go through the procedure manually to get the windows validation thing installed. Then reboot, After that you should be updateing no problem. Now before you try a OS recovery do this. Delete the symantec stuff in Safemode. Run system file checker http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html Run the command this will unscrew up windows files. Will not do anyharm. Now see if you can restore your comp to a day or time prior to the time you installed the symantec software if things still are not working right. The firewall Norton is useing was the old Sygate firewall, they bought them out a few years ago. I still use sygate firewall pro and norton antivirus 2003. Your problems are obviously software related. Since the product is new and VISTA is new you took a real chance here. I wouldnt do that again if I were you. I work at an office systems dealer and its a road to hell living on the bleeding edge of software . good luck -

Black Shark Update, 16 September 2007
emenance replied to Wags's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
WELL PLEASE 2007!! WE SHOULD be really thankful about the no charge part. Almost as much as I anticipate making a fool of myself flying the KA-50 , I am just as much anticipating what I hope turns into A VIDEO REVIEW OR COMMENTS about the current state of Lock ON and Black Shark. For example FEAR came with a developer walk through of the game that I really enjoyed and learned from. This sim is so technical, Im sure there could be many things explained about the total experience of these games from the dev team that we could understand and grow with. At least its my hope that it would be very entertaining to watch such a video and hear about some of the behind the screen things that went into the making of this awsome sim. Really, offering this as a 500 mb download for such a commentary would be awsome. -

would love to see some feedback to this, as in what YOU are running and how it handles FC and other games. Not much info out there in the compromise area. Price? -
i might go crazy and build x975x Albatron board. This has a digital clock gen and will be crossfire capable. BTW I am the only source for Albatron motherboards in the USA right now :)

>>>>>OKAY EVERYONE PUT THERE MODS HERE!!!<<<<<
emenance replied to jonnyB3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yeah this was done in the UBI forum. Problem is though as time goes buy it doesnt get updated or the links die and no one takes care of those problems. It really pisses me off to find a dead link when im looking for something. SO really the idea is good but i would rather see moderrators take care of a sticky in the mods forum.......... -

Anyone tried LockOn with Windows Vista Beta?
emenance replied to zenTera's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Every new MS OS has pimped or hyped an overall improvement in how games and media perform better. I expect the code will improve, but the problems with drivers and the other hardware you have laying around in your life or someone else isnt going to play nice with Vista. I would wait for at least 1 service pack before diving in. Trust me, the XP launch caused alot of nice hardware and software to become obsolete or non functional overnight. Manufactures will catch up for some things and MS will catch up on even old printer support. ALL of this will take TIME. You have been warned!!!!!!! -
its a good start. get more ram then more cpu and decent heatsink, then decide if you wana keep your motherboard. If so buy a bigger PSU. Make sure you get high amps. Then buy another hard drive and keep your 120 for back up. Install clean.

Keep your activation status intact when reinstalling XP Published: 1/26/05 Takeaway: Learn how you can reformat your hard disk and reinstall Windows XP on a system without messing around with Microsoft's Product Activation after the reinstall. ________________________________________ Have you ever wanted to reformat the hard disk and reinstall Windows XP on a system but you didn't want to mess around with Microsoft's Product Activation after the reinstall? Fortunately, you don't have to. As long as you aren't making any hardware alterations, you can back up the activation status files before you reformat the hard drive and then restore them after you reinstall the operating system. To perform the backup, follow these steps: 1. Use Windows Explorer to open the C:\Windows\System32 folder. 2. Copy the Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak files to a floppy disk or CD. To perform the restore, follow these steps: 1. Decline the activation request at the end of the installation procedure, and restart Windows XP. 2. During bootup, press [F8] to access the Windows Advanced Options menu. 3. Choose the Safe Mode (SAFEBOOT_OPTION=Minimal) option. 4. Use Windows Explorer to open the C:\Windows\System32 folder. 5. If they exist, rename the new Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak files to Wpadbl.new and Wpabak.new. 6. Copy the original Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak files from the floppy disk or CD to the C:\Windows\System32 folder. 7. Restart the system.

Error message when installing Flaming Cliffs.
emenance replied to jonnyB3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
regedit / local machine / software/ ubiweak/ you can delete the install here. That usually is enough. after that you can use the FIND command to search up and down the registry for ....example lock on or LOMAC. Thats what i have had to do in the past with other software. This may or maynot work with LOMAC, you might not find everything you need to get rid of. Personally I would try reinstall the base version and try to get a clean uninstall. -
Hmm, how do you actually install Flaming Cliffs?
emenance replied to VVanks's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Its all within the registry and I do believe it would be too complex to try and track down every entry. With everything else going on i would reinstall. Later you might wana take your computer experiments onto another machine. -

LOL. I did that at work on a color copier. -
The game FEAR has a huge dev team commentary that is a long walk through of the game. I think it was an extra cd with the game. Anyway this would be awsome if a walkthrough could be done. At least some commentary about the game and the things the average person would miss. Cant wait. Vote YES or NO :)
-
Some real commentary by the Dev team or testers would be realy great. For example the game FEAR has a dev commentary that just about walks through the whole game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
