Cool! Didn't know the harrier nozzle could be seen glowing at night.

The rear nozzles (Hot Nozzles) will glow in the hover as the aircraft is almost at full power in the hover. It can't do a safe vertical T/O with a full fuel load as it's too heavy (at least the GR3 and FRS1 that I worked on). The modern variants had a DECU (Digital Engine Control Unit) and a more powerful engine. The earlier variants had a mechanical FCU that needed setting up, like a carburettor on an old car!

There is also a water injection system on the aircraft to increase thrust when hovering should the pilot find himself in a position where full throttle wont maintain a stable hover.....it doesn't last long though!

The aircraft will happily maintain a stable hover hands off if it has been trimmed correctly.

I spent 3 years doing deep strip maintenance on Harriers and know them inside out.... the fuel, nozzle, water injection system and the engine was my bread and butter for just over 3 years. Even had a trip in one once, a two seat Navy jet that was on a post major delivery flight to RNAS Yeovilton. I can even remember it's number ZB603! It was a trip of a lifetime!

Fantastic little jet.

Does anybody have a link to a NATOPS orsomething somewhere that shows proper carrier procedures for the Harrier? Apologies if it's already been posted stuck on my phone and search isn't playing nice.

Still working on the TGP. I'm going slower than expected because I am learning how to manage the LITENING.

Two screenshots of the latest test. The left MPCD is displaying a generic camera that is looking forward with no Zoom. The right MPCD, with the legend VIDEO RIGHT, is displaying the TGP camera with Zoom factor 6 and Zoom factor 0.

You can see the difference in resolution with the generic camera in the left MpCD.

I feel the same way - and a big reason is the RAZBAM team having these show and tell updates, keep 'em coming! One other simple reason is the challenge of performing the STOL and VTOL maneuvers without even thinking about the combat side of things... more playability.

Is this module going to be built to the level of DCS A10C? I.e. moving progammable TAD, MAV screen and TGP screen?

Be sure that the AV8 will have a high level of fidelity for the avionics but also for the flight model. If you want to know what RAZBAM can do try theyr incredible Mirage 2000

Is there going to be an indication on the hud where the tgp is looking?

If there is one of course, but so far I have not seen anything indicating TGP HUD indication.

The HUD image is from the NAVFLIR, which is on top of the aircraft's nose.

I am about 80% sure its the "diamond with a dot" or a "hex" to its right, if that is what you are looking for.

I have seen it in other HUD clips

That's the target designator. One of several, depending on AG mode, weapon type and release mode.

The diamond or the Hex?

I have seen the diamond in a few other harrier clips even the GR9, so i would assume thats the one. the Hex this is the only clip i saw.

The diamond is target designator. The hex is unknown, probably a new cue or a specific cue for the selected weapon: APKWS.

In the documentation that I have there is no HUD interface for the TGP. It is all heads down.

The only HUD integration is with the NAVFLIR and the DMT.

Regarding the NAVFLIR, it has a very interesting function: a hotspot detector. Any hotspot detected by the NAVFLIR will be displayed as a "v". It could be anything, sun's reflection on water, a bonfire, the hot engine of a vehicle, etc. That it cannot tell nor discriminate, it just tells you that something hot is down there.

Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8bmk4yZAJI&feature=youtu.be&t=2m20s

At first we thought that only the GR.7 and GR.9 (British Harriers) have it, but the AV-8B N/A does too.

Since the feature currently does not exist in DCS, we requested to ED the creation of such feature. They are keen to do it, on their schedule of course, but with one caveat. Due to the limited resources available only "live" vehicles (AI or human driven) will be detected by the NAVFLIR. Otherwise the FPS hit would be huge.

I'll inform you when the hotspot detector is delivered by ED and of course you will see it in action when we implement it.
