I would say yes! VR in DCS is not perfect but then neither is the VR tech yet. I fly mostly rotary and the immersion and spatial perception VR offers makes the rest of arguments a moot point.

Besides there are other VR titles as well.

There maybe cost involved depending on your current hardware and which VR HMD you want to go with.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

if you are a FPS watcher or a pixel counter then don't bother. If you want total immersion and fantastic depth perception then yes get it. I went for VR and I will no longer play any game that is not vr compatible

I'd venture as far as say YES! But be aware that You cannot run with all bells and whistles in graphics but immersion is outstanding. You will be sweating after an intense battle :D

Hi

I agree with the above, during 2017 I was flying in a home built simpit for the A10c with triple HD projectors and using Helios; complete with a 180 Deg wrap around screen, all of which took 3 years to build. I tried the Rift in Dec 17 and that was the end of the simpit! The whole experience for me was amazing, and still is. I personally dont worry about the resolution, but once you fly through a cloud in a WW2 warbird fairly certain you will be hooked.

I am into the "meh" camp.

VR is clearly a big step regarding immersion, no doubt about that. But it can be a deal breaker for some users when used within DCS ; the tech is almost there and works really well with plenty of games, other sims too. The fact is DCS need a drastic improvement in the VR department. I'm saying this as I used to play VR with the Rift and I'm patiently waiting for my 5K+ from Pimax.

If you're looking for stellar graphics and high FPS count, you can wait for Eagle Dynamics to work and implement VR correctly in DCS - if it's even possible, I don't know how difficult it could be for the dev to work around their engine.

I've been flying in DCS VR for a couple of years now. My vote is a definite yes. I MUCH prefer VR to a monitor, despite the current drawbacks of worse resolution and slugged frame rates.

Oh heck yes!

Got my Rift on Jan 15 2017.

Last day I flew DCS on a monitor - Jan 14 2017.

No from me, going from a 34" ultrawide with Gsync to VR was not impressed.

Low FPS and inability to spot targets ruined it for me,

waiting next gen VR and will try it again then.

Don't get me wrong the feeling of being in the "pit" was amazing,

but not worth the loss of resolution

I have never flown using a monitor since I got VR. It's still incredible that I can sit in the pit.

Things like A2A refuelling are so much easier to master. Don't get me wrong it's still a challenge but it's no longer a massively, frustrating experience.

Taking off and landing in helicopters is so much easier.

I will never go back and with ED clearly on board with VR it's gonna get better.

Everything being said about the VR experience is absolutely true, the immersion is phenomenal and not being able to see the keyboard is no problem with a good Hotas like the Warthog.

Clarity in VR is not as good as with a high resolution TV but after you've used your VR HMD for

a very short time you just don't notice any detraction's. I suspect most of the naysayers put on a VR HMD for 5 seconds and then complain without giving it a real chance or they have their minds made up prior to even trying VR. I use the Rift and have a Pimax 5K+ on order but the Vive users like their unit also. Give VR an honest try and you can't help but toss out the monitor, it's absolutely great!!!

Get off the fence and get into VR. ;) You won't regret it.

I was worried about the readabilty of gauges and DDI's/MFCD's in the cockpits, but actually I was really surprised with how clear everything is.

YES. I have been playing flight sims for a long time, and I will never play one again outside of VR. It is a total game changer.

I played IL2 Cliffs of dover and had many friends over there, however when Palmer Luckey announced the Crescent Bay prototype (now Rift CV1) I was more than a little intrigued.

So had a look around at games that supported it. CLoD did not and still does not support it, so came across DCS.

Now I had heard of DCS, but not really given it much thought. At the time the CLoD scenery on the YouTube vids I saw seemed to be much better, however with the imminent advent of consumer VR, I thought it worth a try and downloaded the freebie stuff.

Rift came out and I sat in the interminably delayed preorder queue for around 6 months. In the meantime I ordered the Hog to get to know while I was waiting.

I did not know what to expect, I expected something a little similar to track IR head tracking, only 1 to 1 and surrounded by a box full of painted on controls that worked when you pushed them.

The reality of VR just completely blew my mind. I was not expecting even screw heads on the panels to be 3D, and not 3D you find on a 3D TV with goggles, proper natural looking 3D.

I have not been back to CLoD since, nor any other 2D game.

Get off that fence, you will only get splinters in your arse....and miss out on something stupendous if you like the experience of flying and not just pushing buttons to knock someone out of the sky.

Asus rampage extreme 111 I7 950 OC to 3.4 1070 gtx 16gb ram SSDs in sata2 6g

The i7 950 may have a hard time keeping up. 1070 is doable, but 1080Ti is (of course) better for VR.

Perhaps folks with similar setup in HW can chime in and help out.

Yes! I’m new to DCS and VR altogether, but I’m hooked. You will quickly not care about the lower resolution. It’s not really that bad. Hard to spot targets from 10kft? Yeah, but I have a TGP for that :)

I can easily make out targets on the ground during a strafing run when I get within gun range. HUD is clearly visible.

I’m running a 2080 card in my PC. DCS is limited at 45 FPS for VR no matter how low I turn down the settings. That being said, I have all graphics settings on highest possible and PD of 1.5 and I’m gettting a solid 45 FPS. PD 2.0 dropped it down to 40 FPS and I was able to tell the difference. 45 FPS lets me stay in the cockpit for several hours without any nausea.

Good luck, and yes, go for it. I found the Rift + Touch on Microsoft’s eBay store for $299 last month. It was a no-brainer.

Also, you need to find a way to stay away from the keyboard as much as possible when in VR. I found this out the hard way, by having to spend another $450 for the TM Warthog. It gets expensive quick, but well worth it.

already have a warthog, and I just pulled the trigger on the rift my real concern is im running windows 7 and absolutely hate the idea of going to windows ten any thoughts ?Ive read that it will run on 7 ?

also I hated trackir so VR was just a matter of time

I don’t know how it runs on Windows 7, no experience.

I was also very anti-switching to 10, but I just bought a new PC (prebuilt) and all the new ones come with 10. I looked for something with Windows 7, but ended up just going with 10. Now that I have it, I’m not so anti-10. I might still like 7 better, but 10 is just fine, no regrets buying it.

As long as you have the hardware to back it up. Low performing VR is worse than no VR at all imho:puke:

When you get it working right than its unlike anything else.

Agreed, a good HOTAS and Voice Attack along with Vaicom Pro make flying in VR so much better.

I have a VKB Gunfighter Pro stick, Warthog Throttle, and CH Throttle quadrant for extra axis and buttons.
