Is it just me or do the Dora & Saber Icons look terrible!

Is it just me or do the Dora & Sabre Icons look too ... well lets just call them lame and don't even look like they belong.

 

For that matter I think the Mustang Icon, Mi-8 Icon, Dora, & Sabre Jet Icons need a rework. They look like they come from archi comic books and they don't do the DCS brand any justice!

 

This is supposed to be a very well thought out simulator with tons of experience behind it. Thoes icons make the brand look like a toy or joke! Really! The Huey, Icon BS2, A-10C, & Combined Arms icons look like somone actually put work into them. Really the others don't look like they fit at all. They belong in a cartoon comic book :joystick:

 

I know its just being picky but really the Icon is the brand and makes the sim look really !:doh:!

I can tell by your avatar. They look dissimilar and make it look incongruent with the thought of being a realistic simulator. Dont get me wrong I love anime Tri-Gun,Samuri Champloo, Neon Genesis Evangelion! I just dont see a relavent point being made representing a simulator with a picture like that.

I like them as well, dissimilar to what? Each other? The others? I think the Dora and Mustang match pretty good... the Sabre suits the era it was flown in... I dunno... I like them....

I disagree. I don't care for either of the planes but the icons look good and I like the new style.

And you see there's a pattern with the modern and warbirds? I like the distinction between the different lines.

The Dora icon is fine. It does go along with the mustang as far as representing WWII era aircraft. The F-86 is more like a comic book cover to me though, but as long as it does not perform in game like a cartoon then I can live with that.

Thank You. Cheesy is a better word for it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the icons could use a little more consistency. I intend this as a benifit for ED. What are new customers to think when they see a image represeting the most realistic combat flight simulator experience avalible but a cartoon-esk icon/logo. Yes I strive to be a bit a perfectionist its just an icon but its also a brand. I care about its representation as much as the simulation experience itself. If you say you don't care, which I think you do too then how would you feel if Belsimtek put a man in a clown suit in the pilot seat in the icon instead, I prefer consistency. To me it looks meh~ again this is just chit-chat.

The font on the "dora" icon kinda reminds me of Jägermeister (kinda makes sense). Maybe its the colors, maybe it's just because its Friday.

It does match American aesthetics of the era. Just take a look at some American training videos and curriculum illustrations.

 

Dora's icon contains gothic font. The font has actually been used in some original German technical documentation. The only culprit is the barely recognizable silhouette.

 

Also the more symbolic content of the recent icons is both better and more consistent. Compared to e.g. the combined arms icon which looks like a scaled-down screenshot :)

I'm not a big fan of the Dora icon either, but the Sabre's one looks amazing imho. A little bit cheesy indeed, but fits 1950s era perfectly ;)

I like them, but they don't match the other icons very well. Some uniformity is important.

 

It kind of reminds me of Andy Warhol's "Wham!"

I think you guys should go fly the Sabre and not worry about icons ;) You can always replace them with your own as well.

im sadly say but i agree with you

for me the old a-10c and ka-50 icons are the etalon

especially the a-10c icon: simple and accurate

id like to see the ka-50 icon (and all others) the same: without the big 2 (ka-50) and precisely positioned diagonally with a view from above :thumbup:
