So, few days ago, I downloaded it and configured all the controls... then I had to left as I had something else to do... and then I finally did some tests...

My first impressions? Meh, it flies just like the old one! Low speed handling still seems heavily scripted, and that famous 'Cobra button' does nothing!

And then, then I realized that I installed it on the beta branch (where else), but for my testing, I launched the ordinary one! I facepalmed so hard that my hand almost come through my forehead!

So, my real first impressions? Very good! Sure, you guys over here have found a few things with the flight model that aren't supposed to happen, but during normal flight and some aerobatics, all felt very stable and believable.

She handles like a dream, even in the hands of such an inept pilot as I am. Landings are surprisingly easy, nailed it like a pro on my first attempt (wish I could land the other birds easily like this)! Even the Cobra, though not that easy, is quite manageable. Overall, great joy flying her! Now I have even much more appreciation for my beloved airplane!

Thank you, ED guys, you made me really happy for once! Guess I have enough entertainment for the following weeks. Now just iron out those few bugs and she will be perfect!

I read the first part of that and was like..WHAT!!! is this person mad...

Luckily I read on before replying or I might have been the one facepalming,

I totally agree she takes a bit of getting used to but I really enjoy the challenge, Just getting the wheels up before your airspeed is too high can be hard enough sometimes...

I like the fact that it is more difficult to fly. I will experience track IR for the first time when it arrives this week....So that and the beta Su27 pfm...... im probly gonna barf all over my keyboard.

Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5GHz (cooler master hyper 212 evo CPU FAN), ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO (Intel LGA 1150) motherboard, 16GB PC2400 DDR3 RAM, ASUS STRIX GTX 970 4GB Video Card, Creative Soundblaster Z Pci-E Sound card, 750W Power supply, MS Force Feedback 2 Joystick, Trackir 5, Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround sound.

You´ll never want to go back - track IR really adds to immersion and feels pretty natural after getting used to it.

Enjoy :)

The problem is two fold:

1. The eagle is constrained to its structural limits, the flanker is not.

2. Pointing out that there have been cases of airframe's exceeding their limits on occasion in RL is not a justification for wanton allowance of unrestricted flight. In real life, doing these things could kill the pilot or reduce the life of the air-frame so that it is unflyable in a very short period. The problem with just allowing these things is that they can be abused much more easily in a game than in real life. A real pilot would have to be very mindful of these parameter lest he ruin his plane or kill himself in the process. It's not all that different from WW2 planes having compress-ability limits. On a P-51 the limit is 505mph for a dive at low alt, but you can actually go faster before compressing. However, if you do this you run a very real risk in game of killing yourself. Not so with the flankers structural limits right now---you just exceed them with no regard to the consequences......until 2121mph which might not be possible from ground start. What is more some limits are most likely not something that could be modeled as a issue in game but would certainly be an issue IRL. For example, we know that both the Eagle and the flanker can exceed their structural/stability/thermal limits to some extent. If you take a plane beyond its designed speed limit, you would most likely cause permanent damage to the air-frame. The damage could result in immediate performance losses or being rendered un-airworthy in the future. Pilots here have no such concern. Im not implying that evey RL concern should be modeled in game, be in the case of air to air performance metrics, it absolutely should.

Completely agree.

I didn't mean you didn't have a point about being able to exceed the actual planes operational flight envelope (& at the moment, probably it's 'hypothetical' performance as well), I was just trying to say that there are situations where a perfect FM in the SIM might allow SIM pilots to do things that RL pilots would have a good reason not to - but that wouldn't mean the FM was off, more that the damage modelling might need extending (which I've logged in the tracking system).

My preference - which has the same weight as yours - limit performance by the FM where appropriate, and by damage modelling (or the prospect of damage as for bird strike) in other places.

Cheers.

What's this, infinitely going, line from small circle:

And why there are dummy awacs contacts all over the HDD datalink screen?

the vector line from a contact also indicates speed, the longer the line = the faster the speed. Looks like a player with a bad connect giving false speed data

Is that online ?

Without a track it's hard to tell - but first guess :

As the length of the line out the front of the indication is proportional to the speed of the aircraft, and your return has an extremely long speed indication, it's possible that what you have is the indicator for a warping client that at the time the indication was written appeared to be going a million km/h.. ?

Did it disappear after a few seconds ?

Online - I don't think the bug with dead clients still appearing on the data-link is fully fixed.

( snipped :) )

Cheers.

I'd love to tell you what "I" think of the Beta version, BUT I cannot seem to download it.

Every time I try it says "Unknown Module 27" ... and YES I did Pre-Purchase it ... the "Install" link is available in the Module Manager.

Any clues ?

Ah ... er... um... What ?

"Open Beta installation or your released installation" ?

If I understand your question (and I'm not sure I do !!), the only SU-27 Module I have available for download is the Beta Version which I tried to install from DCS: W's Module Manager (where it shows the Beta is available for download).

With the Su-27 AFM, Like the F-15 AFM and Long Time Lock On:MAC Pilots,

Pilots that have grown accustomed to abusing and pushing the limits of the SFM for the last 11+ Years, will notice the plane is now more lively and less forgiving.

He means are trying to download it from the menu of the beta version of DCS world, which can be dowloaded here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/dcs_world_open_beta/ if you're trying to download it from the current stable release of DCS world, you can't

When something is only available in the Open Beta, then you cannot install it in the current version. The Su-27 is not available for download except with the Open Beta installation from here.

I would assume this works even for products that you just purchased but I will not swear to that.

Thanks for the information/solutions gents.

I actually didn't realize we could still install Mods from downloading files from DCS website.

I have been under the impression that the only way (or correct way) to install Mods was directly through and with DCS W. Obviously, I am wrong (again).

Thanks again.

Hi SnowTiger,

It's not the mod that you are installing from the DCS website. You need to run a separate instance of DCS which is the DCS World Open Beta version. This resides alongside of your current installation of DCS World. Once installed you'll have your normal icons on the desktop and a brand new set of icons for the open beta version. Run the open beta version then you can install the FC3 module from within the Modules Manager and this will let you fly the SU-27 now rather than waiting till it is available in the main release. And yes it will still be in Beta then but part of the main install stream.

Hope that helps clear it up for you.

Cheers,

Troy

I like you sence for black humor!

I never flew such a beauty in RL but I think this bird needs a little bit help.

At ground there is a magical break all the time and a magical wire to hold this beauty down to the runway till 300 kph are archived.

The "inverted stall till death" even with nose down and full AB is another magical "trick" I can't believe.

And @ 8.000 meters the bird is dancing left and right if your speed is under 700 kph.

Over all I like the Su27 but I see the exact same problems we have had at the first F15C beta.

Many "magical" stuff but this will hopfully be fixed soon.
