@ Nedum: I understand that ED's estimations ( and even 3rd parties ) became quite simply jokes, with them being missed consistently by a long shot. EDGE was 'just the last 10% left' last December and NTTR was 'almost ready' last year as well, and now the news are the same and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes half a year more to get anything substantial. :)

 

However... in their case at least in my opinion I find it understandable and acceptable. They are a small team and they are creating:

 

- New graphics engine

- New maps ( that is an insane amount of work, believe me )

- DCS level planes

- A digital world in which a lot of things have to work together

 

It's only natural to get the estimations wrong and have lots and lots of unexpected crap to deal with. And besides, they are not charging us for any of the unreleased stuff. :)

 

As much as I understand the frustration ( c'mon, we all got little kids inside of us wanting the new toy ), that kind of thing really shouldn't make us discontent as if they had an obligation to give us a finished release for something we did not purchase yet.

 

Anyway, see you guys! I'll be back to Assetto Corsa with its bugged graphics engine, endless physics adjustments to be done and important unreleased stu.. oh, wait. No, no I'm not gonna write this again. :P

The wait will be worth it. And like has been said many times before; noone- not even you guys, want DCS 2.0 out more than ED themselves. Imagine them sitting over millions of lines of code every day, knowing what expectations are lying over them. We can't imagine that.

 

The sim industry has been plagued with rushed/poor releases. Imagine the raging on these forums if DCS 2.0 would really just be DCS 1.6? Like you I want it all, and I want it now, but I am thankful that the passionate, dedicated people at ED work so that OUR dreams can come true.

 

They have my full support and I will wait. In agony, yes, but wait I will.

 

The graphics engine, new aircraft coming out with more in the pipe, new maps, better performance in a next-gen environment...

 

I am not bailing on ED. They WILL have my money;)

Am I right in thinking that the Spitfire was intended to be released in 2014? I can't remember exactly what was said when ED made the post regarding ww2. If so is it more likely that the spitfire will be released Q1 2015? Does anybody have any info on the DCS spitfire?

You can always get ED to do things faster, just go and invest some millions into the company :)

Back when ED took over the WW2 project, they made a tentative estimate for the Spitfire to be released December 2014.

This is obviously no longer going to happen, seeing as the Bf-109 has only just been released.

I did miss an update on it in this latest newsletter though. Wags wrote in October, that more staff will be moved to the Spitfire, once the Bf-109 is in beta. So I guess maybe we can hope for February.

All of the screenshots flowing out of ED are made with EDGE so it's got to be close this time. As much as I'd love to have 2.0 during these cold and dark winter days, I have no problem waiting longer if they do it bug-free and right.

I don't understand. HOW is this all good news. Everything (except maybe Edge) got delayed. Some of it by quite a bit.

SO really they are not delays, like my flight was supposed to leave at 6 and it didnt leave till 7, their estimates were not accurate and now they have adjusted them based on being farther along and having a better idea of what remains to be done.

 

There is a lot of cool stuff in the newsletter, its your choice to see if or not...

Yes, those screenshots are amazing, I hope Wags posts hi-res version for you guys, its not as bleak as it seems, but ED does want EDGE and NTTR to be as polished as possible for release, which is understandable....

I think ED should code this into the forum, every post you make you have to click a warning that you understand this, and won't whine in your post's how XY was delayed... :D

^This, I can see a million ways how this might go sour on release day, everyone should expect a long beta time with many frustrating bugs. When I joined the community people still whined about how Standalone DCS(A10C/Shark) was better than World and how everything was better & smoother 'before'. :P

Question to the Steve Davies readers, is he fiction or non fiction? Are his books worth the time??

 

non fiction for Red Eagles......THE best book I've read in a long time. I would highly recommend it. All about the secret MiG squadron they had at Tonopah near Groom Lake.

The mention about a yellow tint I assume they are referencing a big graphical error as a blue tint is incorrect for Nevada and even Hormuz. So yellow is more inline with the environmentals in those areas. Well wait and see is the operative term. I fully expect to see it on our hard drives come February. Holidays will crush productivity. Bah humbug

Or the terrain viewer doesnt use the exact same lighting and other settings when rendering,

So when assets are transfered to the full GFX Engine, they require adjustments and some level of color correction.

 

This is a typical / common procedure when using separate / external renderers.
