Just those areas, or is the original square area larger?

The area that Snoopy was questioning, the small bit that the red box didnt cover.

FYI, I think Wags is going to post some examples of High/Med/Low textures to the 1st post at some point.

Thanks. Texture examples would be appreciated.

Might not be today, so don't hurt yourself on the refresh button... I would image he will post raw screenshots.

I wasn't expecting today, or even tomorrow. :)

Besides, between errands, dinner with some friends and a concert tonight, I wouldn't see them today anyway. ;)

Ground textures **could maybe** be souped up by modder after release ...

Call me old fashioned but I'd rather rely on ED.

Sure, but the modders in this community have made some epic textures for the old map. And that is with the old technology.

Because it's easy to take 15 old textures and make 15 new and better textures, as they get distributed all over the map automatically. From what we saw and from Wags mentioning the size (I think he said 25GB so far somewhere, not searching for that quote now), Nevada will feature terrain with satellite imagery as textures (or maybe a combination of sat. and preset textures?). That's kinda more complicated to mod.

Nothing against modders at all. I think they are a talented bunch, but it seems with every release there is some sort of hassle to deal with or some workaround to get the mods to a working state again. This is based on my personal observation and I could be totally wrong. I guess I just like to keep my copy stock.

FYI, Wags let me know that the areas highlighted by Snoopy are indeed Medium detail.

thanks for the info

may we know what does the detail include here? road density, building density, building texture, ground texture, etc?

This is specific to the terrain texture quality, not building/object density as far as I am aware.

ie: in the medium shot just added, you see some buildings and such in there....

Edit: There are no roads and objects in low detail areas. Low detail areas are like the current map edges... just there so you dont fall off the planet :)

Higher resolution ground terrain mesh

the area along the outside portions of the map have the least detail (16 to 64 meters per pixel).

i don't understand that "per pixel" thing. is that the distance between vertex points of the "ground terrain mesh", is that the "resolution" ?

so what is that pixel exactly ?

however, the low detail area still looks good from the high above, of course that's not for chopper pilots

Its for resolution, how many meters per pixel is how good the quality... so the more meters you squeeze into a pixel, the lower the quality.

64 meters in one pixel is not going to look as good as 2 meters in on pixel... hope that made sense :)

okay, thanks but is that mean 64 meters in one pixel equal with a 64 meters ground terrain mesh, where the nearest (next) point is 64 meter far (horizontally) from a mesh-points ? is that the same ?

It will effect the mesh as well, you will get a better quality mesh with better quality terrain data. So sort of :)

Look at Low-1 compared to High-1, you can see the difference in quality of mesh and textures.
