I wish hands and time putting in pay-ware campaign support were dedicated to getting EDGE functional instead. I don't know about others, but I don't even play the campaigns we get now and you'll almost certainly never get me to drop money on one I have to pay for... I'll collect planes and even maps like a kid with a pokemon addiction, but not campaigns...

But realizing I am not the center of the universe to anyone but me maybe others feel differently? Just seems like an odd tactic to me. I never underestimate my capacity to be the weird one though.

I'd pay for a campaign but only if it were very professionally done and had a lot of replay value.

Just to tip this thread in a more positive direction, I find it interesting that the payware campaign support is already being implemented. I wonder if ED is already in talks with some 3rd parties.

Very surprised by this also

I wish I could set up a script to auto respond to these messages, but anyways, here we are. Do you think the team working on EDGE/NTTR stopped what they are doing and started working on the pay-ware campaign system? No, probably not... probably a different person/team than what is working on EDGE/NTTR.

I guess it's all about ED future-proofing DCS, which is a much needed step, and EDGE is a major part in this.

I'm really looking forward to the update!

It's a really a pita creating and handing out our own keys for our campaigns. I'd rather spend more time mission building than key building.

I buy that line in some cases. I do not believe a guy that does art work programs and vice versa. But when it comes to developing a new system to implement pay campaigns or debugging problems in EDGE I tend to believe there may be some overlap. Maybe I'm all wrong, but I am not always convinced.

Not being convinced tends to point at the fact that some of you dont think ED realizes how import 2.0/EDGE/New Maps are to the development of DCS... this would be very wrong.

New Maps, EDGE and such is a very important big step... but they also have a development and deployment plan, and they have enough people to work on more than one thing at the same time... so dont be convinced... but you are wrong.

OMG.

Now I got it ... I was wondering why they skipped a version number. I was even about to ask if it was just an oversight, a glitch or what? Then, literally right now, after some hours, the answer dawned at me.

It's because 13 is a "bad luck" number, right? RIGHT?? Heh, I am - as being a software developer myself - totally aware that devs are weired at times. But tbh, such kind of superstition?

But that makes me wonder if we are really, really close to the release of 2.0 now ... and that this behaviour is just a sign for that even the slightest and remotest source of potential problems is to be eleminated.

Heh. Thirteen. *chuckles*

I think I realize how important revenue is for them, regardless of whether it is from this, modules, edge or anything else. They obviously think this will make money and edge (by way of additional maps) will make money. Edge will take longer than this obviously did.

But like I said, I won't buy campaigns and to me the morbid curiosity question was, is there really a market for it? It wasn't a criticism of the idea; just from my POV surprising that there is a market for it.

Anyway, if all I'm going to do is get badgered for asking and suggesting that there could possibly be even one person working on one that could be working on the other I'll drop it. It really wasn't _that_ important to me.

(Edit: and for the record I am fine with the fact that money pays the bills and the people that work; EDGE gets ED and it's employees nothing if it doesn't bring in money; most companies and people can't and won't work for nothing; simple economics and reality of life)

Does everyone here need to re-read "The Mythical Man-Month"?

This book is 40 years old and hasn't been updated in 20. It has a lot of critics today for being no longer relevant, especially on large projects.

Just an FYI that I would be interested in purchasing campaigns as long as they are well written, story driven and worth paying for.. I would expect cut scenes, possible forks in the story etc... (And DEAR GOD YES I would pay for a dynamic campaign...)

ED has pushed the tempo, they've been handing out patches quite often lately. So often, that half of the fixes done don't get mentioned in the changelog (vide F-86 and Fw-190 in 1.2.12) :D. Not complaining though and I would suggest staying calm - if someone's expected, "favourite" fix is not listed in the log above, that doesn't mean it won't be in the released version. Expect the unexpected (not talking about the new bugs, even though there will be some, probably).

I'll rebuy your campaigns (if the price doesn't go up) just to avoid this. And again, if you transfer them all to Nellis AB.
