If I am me, and you are me, then who am I?

HAHAHAHA.

I was only joking with that question. I'm from Poland too and I was wondering if your HQ is placed in Świnoujście. Actually I had a nice dinner there with my friend from Międzyzdroje couple of weeks ago.

I am definitely me myself but I'm not sure who you are being not being yourself. Does that make any sens for you lads XD

GREETINGS FROM POLAND!

Eagle Dynamics should make good use of this opportunity and create an effective marketing plan that can ensure the success of your product.

Understanding that are 1 year of release of the F-14 Tomcat, which also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the movie Top Gun, movie produced by Paramount Pictures film producer; Eagle Dynamics should talk with Paramount Pictures and create a plan of strong marketing and promotes the DCS F-14, in my very personal concept, it is an opportunity not to be missed, taking advantage of this anniversary, really could do very well and could achieve 3 things:

1. Increasing the diffusion flight simulator worldwide

2. Ensure sales of this new product for 2016

3. Create new audience simulation of the F-14, about the movie that .... celebrates 30 years anniversary

The same Tom Cruise who also likes aviation insurance would be an incredible marketing hook, gentlemen seriously as knowledgeable on the subject of marketing would be a great opportunity, I ask only Eagle Dynamics do not miss out.

I hope they understand my bad English and comprenprendan my idea ...

Greetings from Colombia, where we are big fans of Top Gun.

True, as a movie it wasn't half as bad as we often make it. As a blockbuster mass entertainment, it was actually quite good, certainly as good as anything they make these days.

The flying scenes though.... that's a different story altogether :joystick:

Let's be fair to Top Gun. Has ANY war film ever produced in Hollywood ever been true to history?

I think of The Battle of the Bulge with Walker Bulldogs playing the role of King Tigers, U-571 with Americans playing the role of the British Navy, the list would be endless, and of course it isn't just Hollywood either. The Battle of Britain with Buchons for early Bf-109s...

This could easily become an endless liturgy of blatant historical inaccuracies, but hey, Hollywood is there to entertain, not educate.

And besides, this is getting very wide of the original thread topic too.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, true. However once you have facts in your head it's hard to ignore the glaring errors. When I was a kid I loved Iron Eagle and Top Gun but now they look ridiculous.

What has using the different planes or tanks for props (as the real ones are obviously not available) have to do with the "true to history" part? They have to use something don't they? Where does this nitpicking stop? E.g. I'm sure all the uniforms are not exactly the same original ones and the actors are not trained professional soldiers. Or would it be better if those war movies had no fighting scenes? Bottom line is they're movies, not documentaries. By those standards, no movie ever has been "true to history" then (EDIT: I see now that this was EXACTLY the point you were trying to make, sorry about that :( )

Regarding the U-571, while a truly dreadful movie IMHO, perhaps I got you wrong regarding which part exactly relates to the British Navy, but I'd expect it was inspired by the capturing of U-505 by the U.S. Navy?

Oh nonsense. Top Gun wasn't awful because of historical inaccuracy. It was awful because it was awful. Purely as a story telling exercise it was trite and cliche and over the top and thats without considering the glaring inaccurate portrayal of air combat, which really isn't what makes a movie bad necessarily.

Apocalypse Now is far from a historical re-enactment of the Vietnam War in any accurate sense but its still a far better movie than Top freakin' Gun.

Now, know what was a fun movie thats not nearly as cringe worthy (by comparison)? Days of Thunder. Just gimme 5th gear! :megalol:

Are those two movies really any different? The same basic plot in both, same production, director, main actor etc. just placed in a different setting. For my money's worth, I'd definitely prefer the Top Gun since I'm not a NASCAR fan.

Problem with movies is, they usually have a "storyline". Unlike real life, stories tend to be favoring things like a moral component, a plot and twist and most often a Happy End .

Unfortunately Real Life/History gives a damn about these minor details... So a "good story movie" rarely resembles any real events.

I don't see them necessarily as problems - they're movies and they can serve different purposes, messages, intended audiences, artistic approaches, etc. (e.g. Platoon vs Full Metal Jacket vs Rambo II).

IMHO, in the context of war-related movies, the problem is that it had become prohibitively expensive to make them so the producers are all too often aiming for the Blockbuster approach (i.e. for the widest possible audience).
