That, coupled with EFM and damage modeling are daunting task I'm sure. Also I think there is a carrier and map to be timed with this release if I am correct?

Anyone know why the Tomcat is named the Tomcat? It's kind of strange because planes (like boats and ships) are usually refered to with the female pronoun, yet the term "tomcat" refers to the male specimen of Felis Catus :)

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

A quick glance on wiki would have answered this question for you:

The name "Tomcat" was partially chosen to pay tribute to Admiral Connolly, as the nickname "Tom's Cat" had already been widely used by the manufacturer, although the name also followed the Grumman tradition of naming its fighter aircraft after felines.

Yeah, I've read that. Though I'm not satisfied with the answer. Animals can be both male and female. But Tomcat leaves no doubt. Was the original Tom's Cat really a male cat? Was it a friendly jab at the Navy? So many questions!? :)

It's just because his name was Thomas F. Connolly and Tom is short for Thomas and the F-14 was his cat -> Tom's Cat -> Tomcat. it has nothing to do with the gender. I think you're thinking too much into it ;)

Yep, and Admiral Connelly stuck his neck out and pushed the plane. He pretty much forewent a fourth star in lieu of pushing this plane onto the Navy. All of the other admirals were going along with Nixon and CO's plan to push a navalized version of the F-111, and Admiral Connolly sealed his own promotion fate with the following comment:

"There isn't enough thrust in Christendom to fix this plane."

The Navy F-111 project died, Admiral Connolly knew what he had done to his own career and put all of his efforts into the development of the Tomcat until his retirement in the early 70's. He is near about the sole reason that the Navy ended up with such a sweet airplane, much like how Col. John Boyd is responsible for the Warthog, Eagle, and Viper to the USAF.

People with loud voices get stuff done in the service, and usually it costs them promotions and careers. It's sad that the people who know what's best rarely make it to the very top because their forward thinking, and their personalities, are not in line with the party line.

Tom Connolly was a hero.

The name "Tomcat" was originally supposed to be assigned to the Grumman F7F Tigercat, which was primarily a night fighter and "Tom cats", aka male cats, tend to be active and do quite a bit of night time scrapping.

The powers that be at the Navy in the mid 40's however felt the name promoted feline promiscuity and wasn't morally upright enough to befit a Navy aircraft..so the name "Tigercat" was given instead.

Flash forward 25 years to 1969 and the name was brought back both due to Grumman tradition of naming their aircraft after felines (Wildcat, Hellcat, Bearcat, etc) and as a tribute to Tom Connolly who championed the design and the aircraft before congress and the Navy.

Then tell me when they are releasing the TomCat and kill me

And that was the last anyone ever heard from him... :D

My guess is two weeks, but I have been wrong before.

Thats pushing it, Im saying four weeks. Give them some time to create the full flight model and code all the systems. It takes atleast three weeks if you want to do it well. Perhaps some texturing and bug fixing left and right but that should be done in a few days. So four weeks boys, then we have our kitty. Oh, and I have never been wrong before.

Yeah, looking at the mascot, the early drawings and the doctrine animations, there is never any doubt about that cat gender.....

hello heatblur,

i'm really looking forward to the f-14. i think it has potential to be the greatest of all the dcs planes.

concerning the pricing of the module, i was wondering if you've ever thought about making a free or lower cost module, which would only consist of the rear seat?!

obviously most people would buy the full module anyways, but having a cheaper backseat-only (multiplayer only) option could help with getting people to fly RIO and i personally could think of some friends, who are not playing DCS, but might be interested in flying backseat nevertheless.
