The corsair in French livery comes from the PACK AI 1940 BATTLE OF BRITAIN with 3 FLYABLE PLANES mode (Eric and Patrick Cuesta).

 

  

But on the other hand I would dream that magnitude 3 would make a French livery for the corsair even if they didn't have an F4u-1D

does look kinda funky though, thinking its a different hub. Maybe its just the paint.

You mean on the shot of Cuesta brothers Corsair? Yes, it's noticeable, but expected from a simplified and shoddy, "budget" 3D model. That Corsair shouldn't even be shown in the same thread as Rudel's masterpiece in my opinion.

Oh, don't get me wrong, kudos to them - I lack the skill and tools to do even that, but indeed these fast conversions were the only things available for DCS for a long time. Fingers crossed that's about to change relatively soon!

Apparently Charles Lindbergh flew the F4U with double the rated bomb capacity. I believe what the picture shows is two 1000lb bombs with a 1000lb on the centre rack.

Apparently Charles had a 2000lb on the centre rack, which would make for an interesting take off…

Hey, I didn't even realize that they weren't the M3 Corsair for DCS. I just figured that the picture was a little distorted. Not a jab at the Cuesta Bros at all!

Whoa... I had NO idea that the Corsair could even get anywhere near that kind of payload!!!

I'll bet it was risky as all h3ll, but downright amazing! 

Curious how such a heavy load would impact performance while carrying? I mean the cross section drag probably wasn't that much different, but such a heavy load probably meant more AOA / Alpha while in cruise, and that probably had a big effect on drag, reducing range and cruise speed I'm guessing. And... I  wonder if his fuel load had to be reduced to handle such heavy weight, and how much THAT impacted combat radius.

Just occurred to me: any loss of power during takeoff, could have tragic consequences for the Corsair driver with such a loadout!  Mind you, I've heard that all sorts of very risky, very "iffy" configurations were being tried all throughout the war... heavy bombers way over their design weight, wings collapsing shortly  after taking to the air... 

Anyways, thanks for sharing!

Bring on the legendary Corsair! (when ready and stable... 😄 )

The distance from Roi (Kwajalein Atol) to Wotje flown by Lindbergh with the 4000 lb loadout is about 165 nm. Thus this is the minium combat radius we can expect. It was a day with favorable winds to get the F4U of the ground.
