Alpenwolf Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Anyone knows if the 70% sales we used to have whether on Steam or the standalone versions are gonna come back at any time?! Been waiting for months now... HACA DYCA Discord Cold War 1947 - 1991 You can help me with keeping up the server via PayPal donations: hokumyounis@yahoo.com
blaueente Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Nope they won't. ... Unless they do ;) They stated that some time ago. I cant remember where.
Pipe Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 No.......ED is not doing these type of sales anymore. it is posted somewhere i7 4770k @ 4.5, asus z-87 pro, strix GTX 980ti directcu3oc, 32gb Kingston hyperX 2133, philips 40" 4k monitor, hotas cougar\warthog, track ir 5, Oculus Rift
Genchou Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Does anyone have a source on that info ? I don't doubt the fact but it's hard to explain it to my friends when I can't give them a quote from Wags or something similar.
Darkwolf Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 You can check his profile and search thru his posts but that will not teach you anything else. Wags said they will not be such sales anymore. Dat's all, one sentence, they is nothing to explain as they were no official explanation at all. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] PC simulator news site. cichlidfan Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 After a reasonable search, against likely words, I think the post, or thread, got deleted somewhere along the line. TwoLate Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Here is a little something. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2569832&postcount=3 Please note that all DCS modules will work seamlessly in DCS World 2.0. However, when we move to DCS World 2.0, some module prices may increase. So, take advantage of these savings now. Thanks and have a wonderful weekend! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Night Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Honestly I am glad that they stopped doing 70% sales. I prefer paying the full price. They work hard to make this stuff and they deserve every dime. Besides, maybe if they make more money they can make cool new stuff faster ;) Perhaps a wise business decision would be to pick a several Flaming Cliffs aircraft like the Su-27 and put it on sale every now and then on Steam to attract new players. But I think they should always keep modules like A-10C at the full price. dabomb Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I also remember a post (by Wags?) months ago saying the 70% off sales were going to be discontinued. In the past few sales, the discounts have ranged from 10 to 40%. Still a good deal.
BitMaster Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I always asked myself who had that bright idea. 70% off just after it got out of beta, got the fixes it needed to be useful etc..... and there it goes for 30% out-da-house. tintifaxl Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I don't mind paying full price for a full product. For me that includes at least an EFM and a enjoyable campaign. If a module doesn't have those two, I don't buy it full price (e.g. 50-60 USD) If I can get it cheaper - all the better :) Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
Genchou Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 If the post from Wags was deleted, there is nothing supporting that claim. We all noticed that -70% sales haven't been around for a while, but it's still possible that it could happen for Christmas for example.
Fionn Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I agree, I'm not bothered about paying full price but not for stuff that has been in beta for ever. I think if I had of paid full price for the hawk and the 101 I would be a bit miffed. I actually would pay full price for them once they were out of beta. The way I see it is, it's nice to support the devs and I will but don't expect me to pay £45 for something that is half done! I paid pre-release for nttr but that is almost perfect even tho it's alpha. Minus the ram issue. It would be nice for Ed to do huge sales at least once a year rather than every month like it was. But to note, since the sales stopped I have spent way less on dcs world stuff. I have quite a lot of the modules and all were sale purchases, had I found dcs world a few months later I would not have spent anywhere near the amount I have. It needs balance imo

What I've noticed when talking to folks from other sites and my squad is that people just don't buy modules they're not really interested in, or that don't offer the same quality/content some other modules do. They spend the same/less they did before.
ShuRugal Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 What I've noticed when talking to folks from other sites and my squad is that people just don't buy modules they're not really interested in, or that don't offer the same quality/content some other modules do. They spend the same/less they did before. For me, this is what it comes down to. If I don't have a strong interest in the aircraft, I'll wait for it to be on sale. If it doesn't go on sale, I won't buy it. The occasional steeply-discounted sale benefits ED, so long as they are not overdone, because it gets people like me to drop ~$20 on a module we would otherwise never buy. But i do agree that such sales have been far too regular.
bkthunder Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I remember quite a few posts on the subject back in the day (they all got deleted...) IMO that pricing/business model was wrong. 70% discount one or two weeks after the release of a Beta... I got burned a couple of times, quickly learnt the lesson and only bought on sale ever since. I think many others did the same and this created a specific "rhythm" on the DCS market where people expected new products to go on sale regularly, and only bought then. The long Betas and the 70% discounts IMO hurt ED's revenue potential and created some ill expectations, because now people are waiting for those kind of discounts and holding back their purchases. Discounts should be done on products that are not selling well, it seemed ED's policy was to have discounts to help launch the newly released products. Windows 10 - Intel i7 7700K 4.2 Ghz (no OC) - Asus Strix GTX 1080 8Gb - 16GB DDR4 (3000 MHz) - SSD 500GB + WD Black FZEX 1TB 6Gb/s
Art-J Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 In the end, after a year or two of these "new", smaller discounts, ED will have enough data to adjust their pricing policy accordingly. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
jvanhoog Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I would think a part of the decision to discount was that a huge part of the companies resource was put into edge, a free upgrade, and not on developing paid for content. They had to generate income somehow. Just my humble opinion.
sniperwolfpk5 Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I would give suggestion to those who have money and loyal and want to support devs. Why not buy some modules and giveaway to people who don't afford it. In that way you will support dev as well as you are contributing to grow DCS community. Win10, Intel 3rd Gen. Core i7 3.8Ghz, 20GB ram, Nvidia Geforce 1060 6GB Opentrack (Download it from HERE), PS3 Eye, Saitek x52-pro Joystick, DIY Rudder Pedals, Google Cardboard with DCS World English is not my native language
Winfield_Gold Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 what sucks is people in countries who do not follow the USD $50USD is currently $68.72AUD so almost $20 more per module. What the world needs is another GFC or another invasion to bring the AUD on par with the USD
Seyumi Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 (edited) No offense but the flight sim genre is dead because people aren't willing to pay $60 for 1 freaking airplane whether or not the dev costs justify it (I HIGHLY doubt it costs the same to make 1 airplane versus an entire triple A game with thousands of employees). I can go on Steam right now and get plenty of 100~400 hour long games for 1/2 the price and now even 1/4 of that with the Steam winter sale. As of right now, it's $491.80 to get a dozen aircraft for DCS World on the Steam sale. I'd be $750+ price normally. I'm not being a hater. I have over $1,200 in flight sim equipment (Playseat Air Force, Logitch G940, Buttkicker wireless, TrackIR5) but the 70% sales were the ONLY reason why I was buying DCS Modules. Now i'm not so sure... Edited December 24, 2015 by Seyumi
