Since I got myself an Oculus Rift, the 3d effect is spectacular and all I do is fly around looking at stuff. The sense of being in a cockpit is unrivaled.

+1 Blown away by that experience. Can't wait for a higher resolution Oculus version to make it even better.

Hello,

These are a couple of screenshots of this map on the Battle Simulator website, that I don't recall having seen them here before:

Hope it is advanced enough on its development, so that DCS can release it at the same time as the F-18 :)

Thanks Rudel!

Though perhaps they are just mock-ups? Looks like they used some chart and google maps.

Awesome, thanks for posting these. That´s the first time I´m seeing this, too.

It leaves a lot of room for speculation regarding the development of the map after its initial release - in a very positive sense.

You can get the same view for NTTR:

Probably my English ;). The question was related to the period of time that the map will model. I assume early 2000's but it's just a guess.

Sorry, misunderstood. I don't think it has been mentioned but your guess sounds about right to me.

 Has anybody noted that if this is the size of the map, it will be about 2x the size (east to west) of the Caucasus map, so about 4x the area? :shocking:

I wouldn't really get my hopes up for that to be the true size of the map. All of the airfields are concentrated in a small area right in the middle so I expect it to be similar to the NTTR map with higher detail in the middle and low to no detail past the outer airfields within a box shaped center area.

Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

The chart map for NTTR goes beyond the actual in game map as well. If you switch the NTTR map mode to the same as the image you have, you'll see California (including major cities) and even the Pacific Ocean.

Hormuz will still be decent in size, and the physical barrier on the map (the straight itself) makes the clustering of airbases less of an issue. In addition, this map is focused on the Hornet, which will operate from carriers and have extra usable area as far as launch and recovery goes.

I'd still really like to see the ability to add airbase static objects to EDGE maps though so that we can get the most out of them. I think it's a good compromise if ED can't make continent sized maps that would consume a hard drive all by themselves. Seeing as you can do this with WWII airfields, I imagine that it's coming eventually.

I imagine you guys are right, but the NTTR map does not have all those flight areas marked on the map as if they had any contextual meaning. it's then just pretending to have more than it does *sigh* :glare:

The linked post says nothing about Iraq or Kuwait.

Google translate for Chizh's post-

Там Иран с другой стороны от пальмы. Множество пользователей со всего мира ждут эту карту.

There's Iran on the other side of the palm tree. A lot of users from all over the world are waiting for this card.

Perhaps you selected the wrong post to link? Or are you saying they will not be a part of the map?

Nevermind. It was actually a typo, I meant Iran instead of Iraq, that's why the Kuwait. Also, I was asking a question.

Is there a general assumption that this will come with the F-18? Or is it separate, or do we not know anything at all about the release date other than 'when it's ready'?

This map will be a ton of fun, mostly excited about carrier ops in the Tomcat, but you could even have Israeli F-15's appear west of the strait, hit a tanker and then bomb a nuclear facility etc, the possibilities are endless.

Also, sandstorms, ED, we will need sandstorms.

If I was a gambling man based on the info we have seen on both, I would say SoH hits the ground before the Hornet, but I have been wrong plenty of times before, as my wife. ;)
