MiG-21 1.5.4 Major Upgrade & Changelog

Regarding the brakes as far I understood the manual they're working correctly. Enabling the nose wheel brake makes braking more effective (since 3 wheels are used) but with a cost of decreased maneuverability on the ground. With nose wheel brake disabled the braking is less effective (brakes are applied to two-main wheels) but it allows for more maneuverability on the ground - which is needed during taxi. Such configuration is however too dangerous during takeoff/landing as it causes violent change of direction especially at high speeds. For this reason the nose wheel brake is enabled during takeoff/landing.

nose wheel brake is just that, it's the nose wheel nothing more nothing less. your other 2 wheels aren't nose wheels lmao

And where did I write that 2 main wheels are affected by nw brake?

The nose wheel brake is engaged during takeoff and landing to provide the maximum stopping ability for rejected takeoff or landing. Any changes in handling or stability are secondary in importance to the need for maximum braking potential.

The braking handle should be turned CW to the 3-wheel braking position whenever the speed is in excess of taxi speeds. The handle may be returned to the 2-wheel braking position when not in excess of taxi speeds. Returning to the 2-wheel position ensures that no undue side stresses to the nose gear leg are produced during any significant turns.

I usually put the nose wheel brake to OFF position on takeoff and ON during landing.

As Frederf said you should also turn it on during takeoffs, so that you have maximum stopping power in case of emergency.

Dear all,

We've been trying to solve an issue with the red floodlights, hence why they were not introduced in the beta patches of 1.5.4.

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to fix it in time for the build today; but we'll release an optional hotfix for them tomorrow, if you want them prior to them being available in the next minor patch.

I'll post them in a separate thread as soon as we verify the issue is resolved.

Apologies for the inconvenience!

Content really 1.5.4 this update or no?

Dear All,

With 1.5.4, we will be launching two major improvements to the MiG-21.

We have more improvements lined up for the MiG-21, including bugfixes and visual improvements.

These will be detailed at a later time.

Flight Model

In order to ensure accurate and realistic flight performance, we've spent a lot of time and focus on tweaking the MiG-21s' flight model in all flight regimes.

With the unique position of our lead FM programmer being an active duty MiG-21bis pilot; we were able to take more real-time telemetry and video data from several recent training flights.

Such data is invaluable to us, and serves to further help with verifying subjective pilot/programmer feeling.

More overt changes will likely be most easily recognized in the critical and supercritical flight regimes,

where the aircraft now performs more to what you'd expect (and also more reminiscent of one of our earlier revisions).

There are, however, significant changes across all performance and flight parameters.

We look forward to you flying the MiG-21 and providing feedback where applicable!

Cockpit Night Lighting

While we have several more, significant, visual improvements pending implementation (and backporting) to the MiG-21bis; we will begin by re-implementing the night flood lighting.

These lights will have a performance impact pending upgrades to the core engine.

The lights will not be available in 1.5.4 Open BETA. They will be made available in 1.5.4 Release.

Thumbs up for proper PR and not leaving users to wildly guess what happened and why. Resolbes a lot of tension.

Well, after the 1.5.4 update, the R60Ms has the same or even worse capabilitys to fire from higher angles. shooting head on is still impossible.

I am a little disappointed because it was said that it will be fixed

There are some bugs with IR feedback right now which make this bug crop up. Thanks for reopening.

So maybe for something different - Cobra, any news on Your custom kneeboard pages that went missing with 1.5.4? They're not crucial, but were easier to use than deciphering small placards in the cockpit :).

From my end, everything is perfect every AC I tested inlcuded the Mig21 is working fantastic. Even Tracking is in great shape unlike in OB. IR is wokring fine no wide FOV. I really don't understand why so many people are having all these probs. The change in lighting systems from EDis a bit pitty but form any other aspect i'm really happy I can't complain anymore!

The roll rate is very slow now, at 8-900km/s it's app. 3 times slower compered to previous version or 2.0. Feels very slow?

I don't either have trackIR issues. But Hud view is misplaced in all airplanes.

Edit: Her's a fix for the misplaced Hud view: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2822725&postcount=134
