I'd like to see if it's possible to add something like a "side channel" that could be enabled server-side, that would allow direct communication.

 

I don't dislike this idea per se, but I believe the thinking behind SRS was that people use TeamSpeak or Discord anyway, and it's not meant to replace these. I wouldn't mind an option to speak to someone outside of the correct radios, but if it was up to me, I'd say this should be really low priority.

You could use discord/teamspeak with a push to talk key different from srs to achieve the same result.

 

I mean if there was an srs side chanel you'd use a different push to talk key to activate that chanel anyway.

 

No need to alt-tab for this scenario and you'd be able to communicate even without dcs launched.

If I have task manager open I can see that the SR-ClientRadio.exe opens and then closes (no SRS window pops up though). I've reinstalled the latest release and made sure I have the proper .Net installed as well. Any thoughts on what I could try next?

Make sure original .exe file is deleted before reinstall?

I have deleted the original folder and tried to run the installer.exe from the downloaded zip file, but same with the main .exe, the installer window doesn't actually open (just thinks for a minute and then stops). I've tried disabling windows defender and also adding the simple radio folder to it's whitelist, to no effect. I've tried the manual install but that didnt allow the simple radio.exe to run.

Right click the install file and select "Run as administrator"

Weird one but make sure DirectX 9 is installed (WPF which is a windows technology uses DX9 under the hood). Also make sure that MSI Afterburner is either updated to the latest version or off as it tries to inject an FPS counter into SRS which crashes it.

 

What do you have in your Windows logs for it? Anything there?

MSI Afterburner was the culprit, stopped it and Simple Radio fired up no problem. Weird cause I had definitely been using Afterburner and SRS at the same time previously, not sure why it stopped working all of a sudden (don't think AB is auto-updating).

Hey Ciribob.

 

I found something that you might want to add an option to.

 

I have not used every aircraft radio available, but the ones I have touched work on the basis of constant high and low digits. What I mean by this, is that changing smaller digits over a "10" either way (so from 9 to 0 or 0 to 9) does not add or substract from the next digit.

 

Confused still? If I have a frequency of 129.975MHz with a 25kHz interval, rolling the .975 over to .000 does not change the frequency to 130.000MHz. Instead the lower digits roll over, but the higher three digits stay the same, i.e. this rfrequency turns to 129.000.

 

 

As I said, I can't speak for all radios, but this might be one of those "which ever method you prefer" options when using the overlay. Not a huge problem or anything, but a convenient option nontheless.

Hey Ciribob!

 

I was on a roadtrip for a while with SRS 1.2.7 working just fine. After I returned windows said something about a major update which I performed, nothing else on the system changed. SRS would launch fine, but whenever audio gets activated by using the test button or autoconnect, SRS would quit with "Audio Output Error - Problem Initializing Audio Output! Try a different Output device". Tried two different audio-outputs with the same result. The log says:

got the same. I have to delete the script files from the saved games folder every time and it works fine. BTW I am not sure, but I installed CA and I first noticed this behavior after it.

Well, I am on Win 7, which doesn't have this update :/, or at least the link to the says for win 10. Ima search for an win 7 one..... ooooor I guess the Win 10 Update works for Win 7 as well...

I have the same problem as above. I installed 1.3.3.0 using the instructions, have the updated msft net files, when through the trouble check list but it does not detect my audio. "problem initialising audio input!" I am using oculus rift.

 

It does not work if I switch to something else. I tried to install the msft media package above, but it said it was not applicable to my computer when I tried to install (I have win 10 home, updated).

 

Any ideas I have not tried? thanks.

Please post you clientlog.txt from the Simple Radio folder (attach to post) and I'll help you both diagnose.

Thanks Ciribob! On the msft media pack, I tried to install the last one in this link, since it matched the build of my windows (when I pull up sys info to see windows type).

The last line is the error, you're missing the opus.dll

 

That is automatically installed as part of the installation process. If that's missing you either installed incorrectly or moved the client radio out of where it was installed :).

 

Just run the installer again and make sure to launch the radio from where it installed and you'll be sorted :)

Post your client log (as attachment as its easier to read) to make sure its not just an incorrect installation (missing opus.dll for example)

Hey, been using SRS a lot lately on the KO server, awesome stuff.

 

I have an idea, would be possible to have a toggle to switch between normal SRS and AWACS/ATC controls as you know there are a lot more radios there.

 

Example: In an aircraft, I use Shift. Cntrl, Alt + ~ key to switch radios and the ~ key as PTT.

And lets say you got a toggle and now in AWACS mode I can set the keys from 1 to 8 for all the radios as in the Forward observer slot they dont mix with any other controls :)

Here's a thought for implementation, though it would require utilizing Common PTT to be useful:

Add hotkeys for next radio/previous radio. These could be used for either the FC3 or AWACS radio overlays (though much more useful for AWACS), and a person could switch radios, use the overlay to see what frequency he was about to transmit on, then use Common PTT to transmit. No need to recode the logic.

 

On the topic of AWACS, have you considered adding the ability to use SRS while DCS is not running? LotATC is a separate client from DCS World, and people would use the overlay anyway so there's no need for a lua export. This could be a server side option to prevent spammers or trolls on non-ATC servers, or alternatively allow a server to be password protected to the same end.
