So raise them high if you want to see this technology in DCS? Who wants to flip the switches? And I mean the virtual hands, not the low RES maps textures.

It'd be very cool to see this in DCS World. We can only hope I guess, but I am sure the next gen VR headsets will give us this as well as improved res and frame rates.

We can dream anyway!

If I not mistaken - Bohemia Interactive is that type of the companies who turns awesome ideas in to shit.

From "Flashpoint" to "Take on Helicopter".

You're mistaken because you're confusing BIS and BISim, two different companies. One makes computer games, the other one military simulation software.

My apologies if so.

they only showed some hands in the game ... not how they flip switches/click buttons

Exactly this. I was waiting for him to flick a switch the entire time.

I've had a Leap Motion for a couple years now and while they've improved on the technology since I picked it up, honestly I can't imagine using it with DCS in a functional way.

VBS is literally no different than Arma 1 and 2 lol. We used to use it all the time in the US Army.

VR is total crap. It has not moved from same problems it incountered 10, 15 years ago....

I can't tell if you are serious, sorry. Disregard my next paragraph if you aren't.

I respectfully disagree. I have seen what they called VR 15 years ago and it was laughable.

I also think we are not quite there yet, but if you only look at what the Vive can do with its clunky controllers and bad resolution you have to admit that the developers are on a good way. There is some stuff working in VR right now that I called outright impossible ten years ago, let alone 15.

Same for Leap Motion. It might still be inaccurate now, but the things that are working already are a big step.

Wow VR is crap? some one needs to warn those of us that are flying VR every day for the past 6 months, and having a transformational gaming experience because of it...

BTW I've got leap motion working with FSX Vr (Flyinside) so long as its an aircraft that is maximized for it, it works well and you can reach out twist knobs and flip switches, so nothing in the original video is pie in the sky.

sorry for being rude. Why I think it is crap (and will remain so)? First of all, main problem of VR is not going away, because it has nothing to do with technology per se, since it is inherent problem. VR is after certain time (varies for individuals of course), causing nausea, because VR is incapable of delivering information, which our brain needs to process the picture which is coming through the eyes. It is not tactile, it provides no clue about distance of the objects, nor is providing any refrence points brain needs to create spatial orientation. Just like when human finds itself in zero gravity for longer period. It takes some time to adjust to the fact, that reference points are floating and it that there is no up or down as reference point. But, after some time almost everybody adjusts - and here comes another but - the space (meaning the interior of space vehicle or station) is real with real coordinates and real objects. So eye and brain are able to find some fix points for orientation. VR, regardless how good, will never be able to do that.

Ok, now I understand your point.

Granted, VR isn't feeling real. It is no holodeck. From that point of view: Yes, we are far away still.

The aspects where real improvements happened during the last five years is visuals. Getting the stereoscopic 3D and the tracking finally right, as well as the data transfer with acceptable lag.

Tactile stuff is actually worked on already, but of course some stuff you mentioned remains and will remain for quite some time. I think you mentioned the big ones.

I probably wouldn't say VR will never be able to do that, but I admit it is hard without actually going into your brain or moving your body. Both are dangerous and not necessarily desirable.

That being said, I am positive VR is on a good way to become good enough so, like you said, after some getting used to it it can be pretty awesome and really enhance our gaming experience in almost every game. :)

When I first started flying VR I would feel some nausea...now none at all.You brain gets used to it fairly quickly. Also I have a sim shaker seat as well, that adds to the immersion. Ignore for now the obvious argument that staring at a 2d screen while flying with non-tactile feed back is even less capable of delivering info than in vr, yet somehow we have come to enjoy that experience. Same for VR.

A few of the guys in our group are flying vr regularly and frankly going back to regular non vr flying is now a disappointment. We've got our Warthog and controller set up and head set and even the sim shaker seat, so this has brought the flight sim experience for us to a whole new level, so you'll hopefully pardon me if I'm scratching my head at your claims that vr is total crap.
