Joni
As per the manual: Operational Modes The HSI has four operational modes: INS/VOR Navigation (NAV), TACAN/VOR Navigation (TAC), TACAN Offset Point/VOR Navigation (VAD) and Ground Controlled Interception (TEL). NAV (main INS/VOR navigation mode): In this mode, the HSI connects with the INS and displays waypoint navigation information along with bearing to selected VOR/ILS station. This is the only mode that allows to select between true or magnetic headings, through its two sub modes: Right now, if the airport where Im landing is not a waypoint and has no TACAN or VOR then there is no way to get DME anywhere; nor in the HUD or the HSI. The thin needle should point to the ILS station and provide DME as all ILS do but all it does is stay there and do nothing. The thin needle flag if off so it should work. muamshai
I have this module, never had a chance to play with it. But now I am diving in this, and whoa. M2000C feels totally different than Mig-21 and Su-25. So yes, an updated manual is more than welcome so I'll train my muscle memory with latest knowledge :) This space is available for your advertisement
baltic_dragon
Thanks guys. We've gone through the screening process of the current manual and we'll start to write / update the parts that need overhaul. There is a lot of work ahead of us, so it will take some time to finish - but we hope you will like the end product! There is a lot of work ahead of us, so it will take some time to finish - but we hope you will like the end product! I wonder if, by any chance, do you need translators? ... I'd love to help with translating the new manual to spanish. I'm retired so I've plenty of free time and I'm able to translate with a fairly high accuracy ... on my last job I used to translate Business Contracts, from english to spanish and viceversa, where the precise meaning of each phrase is critical. Joni
Perhaps you could replace radios with "Systems". I cant think of radios being a topic of learning :) I went through the hole electric and hydraulic systems when I bought it. Even tested the buses diagram in game to see if it was implemented. VampireNZ
Perhaps you could replace radios with "Systems". I cant think of radios being a topic of learning :) . Nothing wrong with a 'Radios' section - 'REAL' Flight Manuals have specific chapters for each Radio. Here is a little example..only one VHF radio with 12 pages, but still in the book. As flight crew you are expected to know fully it's components, operation and limitations as well as any other piece of equipment on the aircraft...so very well! You could always skip it if it isn't 'complicated' enough for you. Charly_Owl
Keep in mind: most radio encryption procedures are classified. Most radio systems in DCS are approximations of the real thing that are built for use within the scope of a simulation in lieu of real life training. baltic_dragon
Don't want to commit to any specific ETA, as real life usually gets in the way (as I am doing it on top of my normal, day to day job and a lot of time spent on building the Red Flag) :) ASAP! baltic_dragon
Hi Baltic Dragon, May I make a suggestion? I appreciate everyone gets something different out of DCS - and the following is only my opinion. I am confident this may be shared by quite a few others, considering the inherent realism/complexity with the sim. My preference would be that the documentation imitate in style (look and feel) - and format if possible, real life documentation - i.e. USN NATOPS or USAF TO-1 documents. There is a French Language (poor quality scan) M2000 manual available which could make a decent starting point. BD If you need access please PM me. Thoughts? Hey flybull, thanks for the suggestion. In fact, I did try that approach - we also even had drawn schematics of different instruments instead of their screenshots, but in my opinion (and some of you will disagree, I know) in the long run it was unreadable and not that helpful. Also, with the custom-made schematics, I'd be dependent too much on another person to make any changes or additional layouts. So I decided to aim for something in between - while retaining some degree of the old - school looks, to also use normal screenshots and some colours. There is another reason for that decision - in my mind, the manual should be easy to use with visible references, cross-links etc. That would be difficult to achieve with a simple black and white version. The work is going well, I am now on radios, though the biggest parts still remain to be put together, I am advancing quite rapidly, so please stay tuned for more. jaguara5
Thanks Baltic dragon! Nice work! I suggest to include in the manual also some known operating procedures of the aircraft and not only the description of the systems (like FCOM and FCTM). As an example, after takeoff, the standard procedure is to climb at AB with 10 degr. pitch up (if I remember correctly), as this gives the best climb /acceleration performance and cut the AB off at 300 kts (or 250 if the aircraft is light). That goes for everyone that has some good knowledge on the way aircraft is operated in real life and that can be applied in the sim. Many thanks! Vatikus
@baltic dragon Would it been possible to go for font which is not as narrow (vertical stretched)? The sample is very hard to read.
