I don't think anyone is saying that there shouldn't be *any* tint.

In my opinion, the tint in DCS is just way beyond 'noticeable' and a lot more than on the IRL photos of F-18 HUDs shown in this thread.

I am confident they will get it corrected. As reference, here are a few pictures I have laying around.

Nice Pics! Yours or did you find them on the net?

Since my integrity has been questioned VIA private message, allow me to clarify my statements.

My HUD pictures are taken during ground movements, and during an incentive ride I was lucky enough to get. So before now, were not available to anyone I didn't share them with.

I make no claim to be or have been a fighter pilot. I am simply a retired US Marine who worked my entire career in the service on the F/A-18 A, A++, C, C+, D. I was also fortunate enough to go to Top Gun in Fallon NV twice and gain qualifications in the F/A-18 E/F, and Growler variants.

Since being retired from the USMC, I now hold an airline transport pilot certificate and work flying private jets.

I think its silly that I have to divulge personal information to avoid being called a liar, but i suppose that is the era we live in.

Me and my friend analyzed the HUD purple tint after seeing the latest video of the Hornet, by Magz.

We came to the conclusion that the HUD purple tint too dark is and not very realistic.

A couple of documents below.

On the first video, when the background is bright, the purple tint is almost gone, but when the background is darker, the purple tint is a bit more present, but still not dark as in game.

Remember, ED has a number of SME's (Hornet Pilots) available to them, and currently verifying and testing the module. I am sure they would be aware of any issues with this.

Ist this a bug or is it supposed to be like that? There is a line between the differens glasses on the HUD which hides the HUD.

It should not be cut off like that. The image is projected onto the closest of the 2 pieces of crystal, which is the full length piece. It should not overlap the projected image.

I don't know how to answer without you feeling offended, so I won't say anything about ED's commitment to authenticity.

I'm sorry my answer wasnt the right one for you. ED is talking to actual current and retired F/A-18 pilots, they are currently happy with the look, I am sorry.

Of course, no one can deny that, nor has anyone mentioned F18 pilots. We just pointed at the obvious with pictures as proofs. We are discussing this based on F18s from the simulator, from the streams and other videos, and based on pictures of real F18s HUD. We don't know how those retired F18 pilots see the hud, and no one is tell they are wrong or right. But you have to admit that we had proof to back our opinions.

Something so easily effected by lighting and angles, certainly is going to be effected by camera lenses right?

In this, I think I will stick with pilot verification. I am just letting you know ED and their SME's are happy with it, if you prefer I just dont answer at all next time I can do that as well.

Typically Go Pro/Sports Cameras Have a Polarization Coating on them which also filters blue light.

The HUD Glass itself also has it's own Polarized Coating.

Nope, they’re not anywhere near that dark, essentially clear. Night flying would be much more difficult if you had a dark tinted square in your face. Pictures posted look accurate to what it does IRL. I’d just rather have other stuff worked on first, as would everyone else im guessing.

I don't think that tint would effect night light levels at all, seeing as the HUD generally looks much better when its dark anyways. As I have said, Wags and the SME's have worked hard to tune the look of the HUD, including the glass.

I agree that it is not that dark. I spent my entire career in the Marines working on the F/A-18 and it is not even close to being that dark. I posted pictures from my own camera that is basically identical to what I saw with my own eyes, but it does not seem to matter since the mods have said multiple times now that ED is happy with it the way it is. It will just be an area where a modder will have to make it closer to correct.
